Camilla looks like she is wearing a 'backpack', with those oddly shaped things on her shoulders. If they had not been gold coloured, they would have melted into the dress and not stood out so much.

Camilla's "backpack" is a part of the construction with which the long train is attached to the dress. During the ceremony the train is "on" and "off" several times. Putting it on and taking it off must happen quickly and smoothly. The train is also quite heavy so it needs heavy structure to act properly. So, practical reasons are more important than the looks.

The picture of the whole family of working royals impresses me the most.
The individual pictures lack in posture: the crowns are not totally upright and as official pictures of the new crowned King and Queen, it misses a bit of “ regality” ( is that a word?)

  6. Puzzled by Princess Catherine's dress, it did not have a V neck during the coronation, the necklace was not visible.maybe she had a mini cape

Many, many people on other sites have noticed this. They speculate that she had two dresses, with different necklines: one for the coronation and one for the photos. Don't know exactly why, but might have had to do with attachments for the cape being too noticeable on the ceremonial dress.

I like their white gala dresses. I wonder why they had to wear these blue, red and white coats ? It looked like they were wrapped in a flag.

This was the coat of the Order of the Garter worn by Kate and Sophie during the service

Do you mean the robes of the victorian order? They are of historical importance, you may read about it.

As anna e. correctly mentioned, it is not the order of the garter, but the Royal Victorian Order, the princess is Dame Grand Cross since 2019. e.

During the coronation ceremony in the Abbey the royal ladies (Catherine, Sophie, Alexandra, Dss of Gloucester) each wore the mantles of the Royal Victorian Order (bright blue with red and white). For the photo they took it off.
The gentlemen (William, Edward, Gloucester, Kent) wore the mantles of the Order of the Garter (dark blue velvet) both in the Abbey and in the photo.
The use of the mantles (and which one) was specified in the dress code.
Princess Anne wore her military uniform with the Order of the Garter in the Abbey and without in the photo.

Great photos and I like the choice of white gowns for all the ladies--very elegant and perfect for photos. Everyone looks so good. I love Queen Camilla's choice of Queen Mary's crown along with Queen Elizabeth II's robe of state--beautiful. Catherine's gown and head piece are stunning--and I love she chose to wear Queen Elizabeth II's diamond necklace. Must say, in seeing the line up of working royals pictured here, the Princess Royal was right about the current version of a slimmed down monarchy.

well most of them are 70+ the only reason its slimmed down is because the Sussexs and Duke of York stepped down. In a few years you will have 3 of the Wales children, 2 of Edinburgh children to add the next generation.

    2. I don't think the plan was for the Edinburgh children to be working royals. Hence their parents chose not to use the titles of Princess Louise and Prince James to which they are entitled. I would think they are now needed. I also wish that the York Princesses were added to the working roster. Neither the Duke of Kent nor Princess Alexandra can continue to carry out engagements for much longer and the Duke of Gloucester will be 80 next year. There's definitely a gap until the Wales children are of age to be involved.

Sophie 's frock was beautiful but was sadly covered up by the blue/red mantle.... Surely the designer should have done a bit of detective work.... Pointless doing that exquisite needle work and for it not to be seen?... It had a beautifully embroidered train that wasn't seen either....

  12. Charles is looking his age and Camilla looks as though she has had work done, she had a lot more wrinkles before the coronation.
