On February 2, King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima and Princess Amalia visited Brion Square in Willemstad where the King gave the starting signal for registration for the King’s Games. On the occasion of their 21st wedding day, the King and Queen received a lock to hang on the Punda Love Heart bridge. The Royal family then visited Scharloo neighborhood. The visit aims to introduce the Crown Princess to the Caribbean part of the Kingdom.

The Queen: No slip, and such an outright ugly shade of yellow, and the birds nest perched on her head. ugg. Amalia: Get her a stylist, asap, poor thing.
Long sleeves on all of them, and in the heat? Strange.

Long sleeves to prevent getting too much sunshine (= to avoid skin cancer).

Bearing in mind that this is an open blog, and anyone can read it (including young princesses themselves who may be wounded by some of the comments here), can I urge you all to write kindly? There’s no need ever to write mean comments, and if you do want to make negative comments, use kind words, eg instead of “ugly”, you can still express yourself with “not my preference”.

Anonymous2/2/23 23:06 You are 100% correct, this is an open blog, thus it seems rude that you are trying to tell someone else what words to use. If the person who posted the word ugly, that was their thought, and their preference, not yours perhaps, but that is their opinion. It works two ways.

I strongly disagree. Maxima is being her brightest self in this yellow, it's not an ugly yellow at all. I do agree you can see a lot when the wind strikes.
I think Amalia looks great in this blouse with red pants. I'm really wondering how all these people with comments on Amalia's style would style her. It's her first tour, let her wear appropriate clothes she feels safe in. She has so many years to come to experiment. This trip is a learning experience after all, not a fashion trip.

Amalias top and red pant look good. I am sorry but Maxima looks like a lemon.way to yellow it hurts looking. Also today is their 21st wedding anniversary, I wish them the best and many happy more years. css

Maxima's personality requires dull colors. A vibrant personality together with bright colors is too much energy!

I try to give Maxima the benefit of doubt but her choices on this tour cross the line into garish for me. And C-Amalia is not shown to best benefit in so many choices on this tour—these red pants do not help at all. She is young with a rather difficult role to manage ahead of her but a stylist is needed. —Anne

Give her a chance to find her 'fashion' feet before you hit the panic button for a stylist.

I’m not sure what difference a stylist will do when the real issue is the one we are not allowed to write about. RH

    3. Well I think these red pants are among the best I have seen during this trip ; a good styling fitting her perfectly. I don't understand the criticism on the long sleeves, there are a few good reasons to have them.

RH - people with the "real issue" you refer to are still able to dress well. The recent pictures of Amalia with her father and grandmother showed her in a nicely fitted tailored suit in which she looked very good.

Incidentally, whilst I think she is still finding her feet in terms of what suits her I actually don't think she looks as dreadful as a lot of others. I think the red trousers here are nice - the top needs to be plainer and more fitted IMO.

I totally agree wir RH. Amalia is a big girl, and she dresses the best way possible to hide this fact. I don't know how a stylist could help... die rather needs a personal trainer... if she does not try to change her eating/excercise habits now, it will definitely not become easier in the future... QM’s dress and pearls are elegant. I think the dress color is fine but she should’ve worn a slip and skipped the odd headband/fascinator. Amalia should wear more solid colors, imo. She’s big-boned and I think the pattern on the blouse is unflattering. The portrait someone painted of her is beautiful. She is a very attractive young lady.

  11. I like the Queen's dress and a young girl should not have to be self conscious while she's developing her identity. Let her be a teen ager people! May she grow from the inside out and may we support her in the journey. I bet she's an amazing person and she is beautiful.

CP Amalia's outfit today is beautiful. The shirt would look best if it hit her just mid thigh. Personally, I think she could have worn the red pants with red tank top, then add the same shirt she has on top (unbuttoned and reaching her at the mid-thigh level).

I'm in the minority here, but I do like Q Maxima's dress and colour, but agree that she needed a slip underneath.

When CP Amalia is wearing white trousers it is not good. Now that she is wearing red trousers which I like a lot, it is not good either. I agree she should not wear fabrics with a flower pattern. The red top she was wearing the other day suits her very much too. Queen Maxima should not wear these head pieces any more. King W.A. has right to wear no jacket. In this climate there is no need to dress themselves like in the Netherlands.

  15. Off topic but ..........
After seeing the photos of the paradisiac Dutch Islands with their agreeable climate, I wonder why the Dutch family have their holiday home in Kranidi on the mainland in Greece? (about 3 hours drive from Athens)
Maybe the Greek house is quicker to get to rather than the longer journey to the Dutch Caribbean islands. I would have thought they’d stay loyal to the Caribbean part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
    Just curios 🤔

Love Maxima's sunny simple dress and esp. the length is perfect. The hat could be much better. Amalia looks okay, but she needs someone to dress her more stylish, with models that are more appropiate for her figure.

  17. To all those who think they are entitled to give "good" advice to a young girl who lives in the spotlight because of her future function: Don't YOU remember how YOU looked at that age when you were searching to find your own style? Leave her alone !!!

    1. She is not a young girl. She is an adult. We ARE entitled to give her both our opinion and good advice. She does live in the spotlight, and with it comes public scrutiny that she´ll have to learn to live with. It´s the one downside of the very privileged life she lives.
Personally, I find the discussion interesting, as it shows how their clothing choices are perceived by the public. If I were Amalia, I´d be interested to read that. And no-one has ever said anything negative about her personally (in fact, she got a lot of positive feedback, encouragement and praise); the advice has been exclusively about fashion. She is not served well by an army of yes-men.

Vanessa - she is very young adult who has led a sheltered life. Of course, people are entitled to comment but if you seriously think she has all her **** together just because she's passed a magical birthday then I think you are mistaken. She is still a teenager and she still has a lot of growing and learning to do. Kindness in the comments doesn't hurt.

I agree with Vanessa. Nobody ever tells these people what they really think. Their whole lives they are surrounded by yes-sayers. A bit of opposition and contradiction for a nineteenyear old girl is not bad at all. Welcome to the real world.
And yes indeed, she needs a stylist very badly. Not the truth is cruel, but hiding the truth and making this girl believe she looks good, surely is. The more so because she does not need to look like this. She, of all people, has unlimited means to improve her appearance.

I am a physician and I feel entitled to give her and anyone else with her problem advice and she has a problem, a life threatening one in the long run. It is sad to see a young person like this. It should have been addressed many years ago. No stylist or any kind of clothing will change that. RH

    9. Anonymous4/2/23 08:28

@RH For a physician, your bedside manner is lousy. You must be assuming that she is not under a physicians care or you would not have made a PUBLIC declaration about her appearance and health. She has always been a bigger girl. I cannot imagine this is being ignored. As a so-called physician, I am shocked that you are body shaming a nineteen-year-old girl in your original comment above [Anonymous 3/2/23 10:39.] You must have some idea what can happen when even well meaning people say the wrong things. If you are in fact a physician, please sign your name and where you practice. Maybe a useful dialog can begin between you and some professionals in your area. The least you can do is learn how to talk to girls/women if you really want to help them. You have taken an oath to do no harm. Right now you aren't "entitled" to speak to a stray cat let alone a crown princess you have no relationship with.

@Anon 08:28 Well said. I agree with your viewpoint 100%!
And as for you RH, I'd be ditching you in a flash if you were my physician after your remarks. No one needs such a judgemental, 'know-it-all' so called 'physician' casting unfounded opinions on the health of people they know nothing about. Shameful.

  18. An odd trio in my opinion, the King dressed very casually, Maxima's ensemble is hideous and totally out of step with Willem-Alexander's and Amalia's outfit is not very flattering.

    1. I agree completely, their outfits are not balanced between themselves. The three of them repeatedly dress for different events. And actually, a stylist will help CP by suggesting appropriate and flattering choices. That will take some stress away and assist in developing her own style.

    I think Maxima looks fab.
She gets it right on all counts for a visit to the warm and sunny Dutch Antilles: her dress is climate appropriate (loose, cool and free flowing); the colour is crowd appropriate (her subjects can see their queen as they want to) and reflects the sunny climate of the islands she is visiting; and she looks polished and not overdone (smart casual) as befits this particular occasion. The low-key hat is perfect for an island where hats are respectful to the women there (I know from almost 30 years of experience). The fashion rules and expectations are different in different parts of the world, and Maxima (or her stylist) understands this. So, well done.
CP Amalia looks nice in red. Her outfits on this tour have a definite trend - either loose top and trousers, or free flowing dresses. That's perfectly fine for a 19yo for whom all this is new. It is her Freshman tour and she is still in deference to her parents who are, after all, still the reigning King and Queen that the people want to see. It's not like the CP about to take on their role that she should be more in the spotlight. She has decades ahead of her before her time will come, and by then she will be armed with confidence and understand far better what her role and duties involve.

One could say that this visit is part of Princess Amelia’s “on the job training programme.”
Most teenage girls of her age doing an on the job training programme usually wear jeans and runners.
But she’s been forced to add ‘fashion’ to the curriculum and what we see is probably part of the early lesson on the subject.
Thanks to the support and backing her parents are giving her, she will make an excellent Queen.
Good luck for the long road ahead of you chère Princess Amelia.
