On the second day of their state visit to Austria, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima, accompanied by President Van der Bellen and his wife Doris Schmidauer, visited the Brotfabrik cultural centre, a former bread factory which hosts a range of projects aimed at promoting social integration. The King and Queen spoke with volunteers about cultural exchange and also with Ukrainian refugees about their stay in Austria.

Afterwards, the King and Queen visited the Austrian National Library in Vienna. The King and Queen then visited the Sonnwendviertel, a residential district with a focus on future-proof building and maximizing liveability at local level. The King and Queen then returned by tram to the centre of Vienna, where they took a short walk.

I know that dress from a. another state visit or b. a marriage. I don't remember when or where. I like the dress more now than the 1st time she wore it. She could have left the hat at the hotel or where they stay during this visit.

  2. Maybe not the best choice for this event..

  3. I don't want to say anything negative on this dress itself, which would be appropriate for some occasions, and I am aware that the visits of the day included two events. However I fear this is a peak in being overdressed for a visit, be it a library. I would call it a party or cocktail dress. I prefer the simple dress of the Austrian first lady.

Wonderful outfit, but in my opinion, not the proper one to visit the places she went to. I would have preferred to see her dressed in a more sporty way.

On a state visit you will not see Maxima often in a sporty way, unless there are activities foreseen where she cannot do otherwise.
Sporty dressing is reserved for her free time, or for more casual events.

@15.58: okay... this event, though, was at a cultural center or something like that... Its not that she was going to meet a chief of state.

She didn't have to meet the chief of state, the chief of state and his wife were present too making some sort of wraps.

She has regressed....this is just a horrible dress for yhe occasion and it borders on clown-like.

Agreed. Wrong dress for the occasion. (Not to mention anything about this dress, which seems to be unfinished at the top lol).

SOOOOO wrong for the occasion (totally overdressed). The top part looks odd almost as if the seamstress ran out of material. The hat really does not look nice or elegant. The colour looks strange on the queen (maybe I am used to seeing her in vibrant colours) ~MS~

  7. Robe habillée, chapeau sans oublier les bijoux, c'est trop pour ces visites ; je préfère largement les robes plus sobres vues sur les premières photos - J'aime beaucoup la longue tunique imprimée portée sur du blanc de la jeune femme blonde !

Totally inappropriate for the occasion. What was she thinking ?!

I really like the whole outfit! It looks so nice but unfortunately overdressed for this kind of engagement especially when baking bread. I.P.

You can’t resist Maxima ‘s smile and energy. What a strange combo her outfit and bread baking … but I don’t care. She looks beautiful even in that Natan dress.

I’m with you, Anon 13 29. She looks great, though I’ll concede that she certainly seems overdressed for these visits. However, she has such great presence I’m sure her hosts and the people she visited appreciate that more.

I just looked at the photo of the model wearing the Natan dress. Ahh ok so this is how you are suppose to look to wear Natan dresses. I finally get it. You are supposed to be 16 and weigh approx 40 kg. No wonder they are ill fitting on all our beautiful queens and princesses . I don’t understand why Maxima and Matilde keep wearing them.

Although I am not always a fan of designs by Natan, Queen Mathilde, don't know it is the case for Queen Maxima too, didn't wear new things made by Natan lately. All the dresses she still wears by that brand are "oldies". Remarkable when these dresses were new everybody said : "another Natan dress with a little belt and the two pleats in the waist area and the short sleeves". Now that Queen Mathilde is wearing these dresses again, which are rather short, everybody likes it.

I think the dress is interesting but inappropriate for the occasion. But the hat! I think it’s absolutely dreadful. It looks like a pile of messy, curly grey hair poking out of silver burlap. I hope we never see it again.
After yesterday’s beautiful formal outfit, this is a huge letdown. (V.M.)

  14. As lovely as the dress is I think it would be more suitable for an occasion like a daytime wedding. She has really outdone herself for this trip until this event. I guess you cannot win them all!

I know that this was a multiple-event day and Maxima probably dressed for the second event where the outfit looks appropriate, but for the first event...I can only assume that she didn't know that she would be involved in a cooking demo. However, knowing this joyful Queen as we do, she is a trooper and nothing fazes her; she would be only too happy to pull on an apron over her lace cocktail frock and hat and get her hands dirty. The outfit looks positively bizarre but my admiration for her is undimmed.

Possible lack of communication about what to expect at the events therefore causing questionable clothing choice.

@Anon 19:06 I think that as well. Sometimes one really doesn't know all the details of the events. And the cooking part might even have been spur-of-the-moment or last minute. I understand that it is hard to plan what to wear for multiple events in a day when there is no time or opportunity to change between them; some might play it safe and wear something middle-of-the-road to cover all the events, but we known that Maxima never does 'middle-of-the-road' - and bless her for it.
I can just see her saying, "Sure, hand me that apron and let's get to work" rather than disappointing her hosts and declining to participate because she wasn't dressed for it.

Hmmm--not exactly the best choice of outfit for the activities planned for today. This is a bit formal for everything we are seeing the Dutch royals do and looks much more like a cocktail dress. However, as always, Wax and Max jumped right in--and Queen Maxima is smiling joyfully. Perhaps she likes to cook. As for the hat--perhaps that should have stayed home. The dress itself is quite pretty despite being a bit froufrou around the shoulders.

What to wear today: hmmm I have a meeting in a library or something like that, then a cooking visit, then meeting a horse and petting it... I think, yes, this fruu fruu dress and fascinator will look totally nutty, just to throw off the perception I can dress well for every occasion. LOL. jj

A spectacular dress which the Queen wears so well, but I find it better suited for a cocktail reception. MR

  21. A dress I would have expected for a wedding or a cocktail hour event. She does evening/gala fashion so well most of the times and gets it too often wrong during daytime. What's the problem, I ask?

  22. Not a good choice for this occasion.
    For a wedding perfect.

  23. This outfit is certainly different!, the dress code for a visit such as this Queen Maxima decided to liven things up a bit. Mission accomplished! I love her spontaneity, she is being true to herself. She is obviously comfortable wearing this cocktail/ formal outfit. Regardless she looks fabulous.
