On March 31, 2022, The Countess of Wessex joined pupils from Grange Park Primary School in Shropshire for the planting of an elm tree as part of the Queen's Green Canopy initiative to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, in the gardens of Buckingham Palace in London. After the tree planting, the Countess presented the pupils with their commemorative Jubilee coins from the Royal Mint, to mark the successful completion of their Junior Forester Awards.

As part of the Queen's Green Canopy (QGC) initiative, planting season began in October with Queen Elizabeth and the Prince of Wales dedicating a tree on the Balmoral Estate. Since then, thousands of schools, community groups and organisations as well as individuals have planted a tree for the Platinum Jubilee leading to over a million new plants taking root. March 31 was the final day of the tree planting season before it resumes in October.

Tree planting in a white Max Mara coat?!

  4. Although I think the coat is pretty, it is too long for Sophie, and I think it is a poor choice to wear for an event which requires digging dirt, shoveling dirt, and kneeling on said dirt. The Queen's Green Canopy project is a wonderful initiative. Sophie is so good with children, and they seemed thrilled to be inside the palace to receive their commemorative coin.

Yes, Debra, the coat definitely is too long and not suitable for a tree planting event but the children don't mind and the CoW is as always at ease with them.
