EM looks very elegant in this pantsuit with a modern twist around the waist. The blue/purple colour suits her wonderful and how nice it's to see her wearing (modest) heels.

    1. Her "kitten heel" shoes fit in well with her (allowed) fashion taste.
Or could it be the limit allowed by the Royal Court?
I'd think that exaggerated stilettos are a 'no-no' (banned) by the Royal Court.
PLEASE : If you have the time, do this test ................
Get up very close to your computer screen and take a look at the mask the Empress is wearing. If you look really close , you will see a hidden, beautiful happy face.
What a joy to see this after her years of struggle with health problems.
And I think a lot of the credit for the happy face we see today is thanks to the love, attention and support given by Emperor Naruhito .

I do not think it's a pantsuit, but a long skirt

@Anonymous 14/4/22 11:44: you're correct; I just watched the video of the ceremony and there it can clearly be seen it's a skirt. The second picture gave the the impression EM wore a pair of trousers.

  2. That blue color is so flattering on the Empress, and as usual, the tailoring is impeccable. Although the suit reminds of the 1980's.

Very beautiful color for Empress Masako. I call it electric blue others call it cobalt blue. Very different than the pale colors she wears normally. I like also the fantasy in the waist area. Perfect tailoring too.
This outfit proves it is possible to wear classic styled clothes that last for a long time and are elegant and fashionable at the same time.

Yes indeed Masako looks wonderful! The colour and the style of the suit complement her height and slim figure beautifully. I know that worn as a pant suit adds a level of sophistication to this striking outfit, and she does looks excellent in it, but dare I also imagine if the pants were instead a full length pencil skirt with a small slit either on the side or at the back, for evening formality, given the Emperor's black tie? So many possibilities! Lovely Empress.

  8. I is a long line skirt, it is very elegant on her, especially the colour. Yes her eyes are smiling behind her mask. He looks very handsome in his tux.
They always look so lovely together, always in sink if that is the word, I should say in love. However that doesn't sit well with the Japanese royal family some how they are, just so formal, but these two seem softer than the others.

Am I missing something? I thought it was a long skirt. In the last couple of photos, there is no pants, or leg line, just plain material all the way across, suggesting a long skirt.
