On February 9, Dutch Queen Maxima and the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Poverty Policy, Participation and Pensions, Carola Schouten, paid a working visit to the Zuiderpark Sports Campus in The Hague. The visit was about tackling problematic debts among young people by means of the method of the Youth Perspective Fund Foundation (JPF).

The method is being scaled up nationally via SchuldenlabNL, with support from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment. During the visit, Queen Maxima and Minister Carola Schouten spoke with young people about their experiences with problematic debts. They also spoke with social workers and administrators about what is needed to interest other municipalities in the JPF's approach.

QM's cape is absolutely beautiful, great color on her! She is a gorgeous woman, and if she would just cut her hair in a long bob that is just above the shoulders ...

Wow... this deep, rich, ox-blood colour looks fab on Maxima.
I love the long, smooth, lines of the cape..and then then the pleated skirt peeking through gives an expectedly wonderful textural contrast. The monotone colour of the entire outfit including boots works really well this time. It was obviously a windy day.

    1. Anon 9:13, I totally agree with your comments.

A non-fashion comment: do any of you miss seeing Maxima and Willem at the Olympics cheering on the Dutch athletes?

  3. She looks quite chic in this outfit. No outlandish accessories makes such a huge difference. I know we make a huge stink about her hair, but it makes her look so unkempt. Other than focusing on how good she looks, I often focus on how bad her hair looks.

Yes, some of us do seem to focus on her hair frequently but I don't think that's wrong.

I (and I'm sure most of us) was brought up to leave the house for work (or meeting, church, whatever function) looking my best and I would expect a queen, king, president, first lady - whoever - to do the same and I don't think she does that so therefore, people don't get past the hair to get to the message. She should know better.

Agree with you Chel, the outlandish outfits are just that, outlandish. However, she is a beautiful woman, though she takes no mind about her hair. I thought today's photo, it must be windy outside, however, the other woman outside did not have the same 'wind swept' look, or dishevelment on top of the head.
QM, should take more care of her hair, she is after all the Queen, the first Lady of her adopted/by marriage country. She would so shine above so many others if she would take care of her hair. Imagine if she had a short bob, about chin length, should would have looked wonderful. So sad, too bad, that she doesn't care enough about the overall looks to take care of her hair. clare

    3. @Marie, I understand your feelings, but the standards about "looking good" are in many respects no longer the same and particularly about hair. The emphasis is now mainly about "feeling confortable or in harmony with the personality" ... and thereby taking distances from established standards. Smile and body language in general tend to supersede former rules, which apply more for special occasions. And the same applies to men (often no tie). Today's look is fine for Qn Maxima IMV.

  6. Je retrouve bien Maxima dans une couleur Bordeaux jusqu'à ses magnifiques bottes ; peut-être que nous aurons le plaisir de la voir avec un joli carré dégradé qui donnerait plus de volume et tonicité à ses cheveux !

  7. Now here is a monochrome colour scheme in which she looks fabulous, about 100 times better than that all fawn colour of yesterday.
One quibble though she is wearing a short sleeved jersey!!! We do NOT keep our interieur spaces that warm in the Netherlands. The day before she found it necessary to wear a high roll necked jersey with long sleeves and a coat indoors!
Presumably whoever hunts up her fashion choices did not look hard enough for a long sleeve version in that colour. She must have been pretty chilly especially as I see that they ere maintaining the 1 1/2 metre distance between persons during Corona and the place they were gathering was near empty.

Completely agree about the short sleeves. Gorgeous color, much better monochrome look. Great boots and cape.

While the color of the cape is pretty, I do not care for the style and yes, again, her hair is quite bad.

  9. What an improvement from the beige ensemble the other day. Even though we have a single colour again, this is lovely The cape and the skirt are my favourite pieces. Is the skirt leather? If so, it manages to avoid the slightly tacky look of most leather skirts.

  10. I love the boots and the cape, I think that skirt, top and bag are fine too. It´s a nice monochromatic look, and the colour is fabulous. However, I find the bare arms peaking out from the cape a bit weird. I agree with Nalerina that short sleeves are an odd choice for February, but mostly it´s the bare arms in connection with the cape that I´m reacting too. It looks wrong. Bare arms and boots don´t go well together either.
Her hair is the usual unkempt mess, unfortunately. I cannot look past that either.

      Yes, I agree with you.
The deep red colour is smashing but
these short sleeves do look quirk with the cape and the rest of her winter outfit.
She could have opted for a simple low bun too.
      I will never understand...ehm...her hair!
On the other hand , she is so nice, enganging and engaged in all her activities.

  11. Cape, bag and boots are great, the color is good too. The short sleeve top and huge skirt not so good. Her hair, as per usual, the worst thing about her. The Dutch hair stylists must be bewildered!
