A new book called "Mary H.K.H." will be published on January 31, 2022 on the occasion of Crown Princess Mary’s 50th birthday that will be celebrated on February 5, 2022. The book contains both new and unprecedented photos of the Crown Princess and the Crown Princess' own stories about the moments that have had a special significance in her life.

Danish and international photographers give a rare insight into her official as well as private life as royal, spouse, mother, patron of a number of Danish and international organizations, a speaker in Denmark and abroad, sportswoman, amateur photographer and fashion icon. Graphic artist Claus Due and Franne Voigt have spearheaded a team that has selected those photos that can tell the story of Mary's transformation from the Australian businesswoman Mary Donaldson to the Crown Princess of Denmark.

In the new photo chosen for the cover of the book, the Crown Princess wears the Danish Ruby Tiara which was bought as a set of jewelry by Jean Baptiste Bernadotte for his wife, Desiree Clary, to wear during Napoleon's coronation as Emperor of the French. Jean Baptiste Bernadotte and his wife Desiree Clary later became King and Queen of Sweden, taking the ruby set with them to their new country.

The rubies then made their way to Denmark in 1869 as a wedding gift for Queen Louise, who was born as a Swedish princess and got married to the future King Frederik VIII. Since then, the ruby set has passed to all queens of Denmark and then to Crown Princess Mary following the death of Queen Ingrid.

  1. Beautiful crown princess Mary. Beautiful couple too. The jewelry set is one of the most elegant I have ever seen. On the 5th photo we see the complete set. Because of the rubies it is probably worth a lot. Mary is still a very beautiful lady now that she is becoming 50 years old.

    1. I'd say he's the lucky one. He should keep Mary under lock and key.
Agreed photo N° 5 is stunning.
But they can now sell off all the Danish jewels.
Mary is the now the shining jewel in the Danish crown.

    2. I disagree. Without -him- she was sitting like the rest of us watching - them- behind the screen.
Working at the local office or maybe ultimately working abroad as a teacher.
But because she has met -him-, she belongs to -them- (and she took her chance). -Anna-

I am afraid you got it wrong.
You only need to reed about Mary's biography and her accompliahments both in her studies and professional career when she was still living in Tasmania.
She has always been a real winner and had her own life before meeting Frederick.
Then, why do you think we all have boring lives...maybe you have one?
Others -and I for one- may happen to have interesting and dynamic jobs, so we do not have much time left to watch behind a screen.

    4. I agree with Anna. Mary's fame is due to the person she married. The marriage was an opportunity for her to reach the top, which she did. And she couldn't have come to a greater country than Denmark in terms of its generosity to the royal family. Also I think Mary dreamt of being famous before she met Frederik. She was in commercials on television and signed up for the Starmaker course all while she worked in various companies and had a BA degree, which is nothing extraordinary.

    5. Photo no. 5 is from 2004 and a dinner with the Parliament before the royal wedding. The gown is one of the few I like. The fit is fabulous and the ruby tiara is before Mary altered it. The tiara looked really special then. After the change it has lost its magic. During the first years Mary always pursed her lips.

    6. @-Anna- and Anonymous you have it all wrong. Mary is very educated and graduated with a combined Bachelor of Commerce and Law. If you have seen their engagement interview Mary did not know Frederick was a royal because he simply introduced himself as Fred. With her education she would have been successful on her own. Crown Prince Frederick did not want to be King and was very unsure of himself as Queen Margrethe once said in an interview. She also said his marriage helped build up his confidence and his success as King will be because Crown Princess Mary will play a large role as his Queen. I think it is an insult to Mary what you said about her. I think you are the ones who dream of being a royal or famous yourselves!

    1. Mary actually looks both prettier and younger than she did when she married CP Frederik in 2004 ....
Just a pity CP Mary has been allowed to change the tiara in this stunning ruby jewelleryset (pic 4).
In fact, also a little strange that Queen Margrethe 🇩🇰 never has been wearing the rubies as queen .

    2. -dk The ruby set was inherited by CP Fredrik straight from his grandmother Queen Ingrid. It has never been in the possession of QMII and is not part of the Danish crown jewels

  6. Wow! What can I say, Crown Princess Mary absolutely is my favorite royal. I admire her for the way she carries herself with such grace and ease. Someday when she becomes Queen of Denmark I am sure she will fill that role with effortless elegance. I admire her for the way she began her role in the royal family and I respect her for all of the patronages she supports. Mary is a remarkable person and I wish her a happy 50th birthday celebration!

P.S I would love to get a copy of this book if it is published in English. Maybe so since English is her native language!

  7. Mary have had the ruby tiara altered just as she had a string of pearls added to her wedding tiara which where then removed again. The wedding tiara was a gift from Margrethe and Henrik.

  8. I would love to have the book--hope it is sold around the world. CP Mary is my favorite royal--she is lovely woman who has taken on a role that she has worked to define as a humanitarian role. The cover photo is stunning.

  9. She is absolute elegance & grace. My favourite royal & role model. I hope this book is printed in English also. I think many of us Australians, who are so proud of her, would love to read the book. What
Is Australia's loss is Denmark's gain. Frederick is lucky to have her she has taken on her new country into her stride &, given it her all. In the royal fashion stakes she is a winner. Mary

  10. The late Queen Ingrid also changed the ruby parure, she added 2 brooches to the tiara...

Queen Margrethe never wore the ruby parure do to the fact, that Queen Ingrid in her will said that Crown Prince Frederik should inherit the parure, ment as a gift for his future wife to wear.
The parure is not part of The Crown Jewels, but can only be worn by a Crown Princess or a Queen. It is to stay in the family...

Crown Princess Mary lost her mother far to early in 1997 and Queen Margrethe has no daughter - and I think that´s why they are so close. They really like and admire each other and there is lots of respect in their relationship. And yet there are so different - once the Queen said that she could never do, what Crown Princess Mary is doing...

The Crown Princess is such an asset to Denmark and the Royal family, especially to Crown Prince Frederik. He is a bit shy, she´s not - therefor the perfect couple...
    - And they are so proud when the other one succeed, not at all
    jealous.

  11. @-dkThe reason Queen Margrethe never wore the ruby and diamond Parure was because of specific instructions in Queen Ingrids will. She left the Parure to her Grandson Crown Prince Frederick with the wish that the jewels would always remain with the Heir or Monarch of Denmark. Because the Tiara did not fit Mary's head it was disassembled and remade specifically for Mary's head. Mary only wears it for the rarest of occasions.

  12. CP Mary is a highly impressive. She made the transition from an ordinary life to Royal life beautifully. Learning a difficult new language. She is well respected and much admired. We in Australia and Tasmania are very proud of her. She has a lovely family. Its a credit to her.

  13. Mary has been wonderful asset to the Danish royal family.
Always visible, engaged and hard at work. At the same time she's mother of 4. Also her fashion style is very lovely, stylish and elegant. She's one of my favorites to follow.
Turning 50 is a major milestone but at this age you still have so much to explore and discover and just enjoy your life.
These new photos look very lovely. I'd like to get my hands on that new book of her.

    1. No, you did not say it openly but you you hinted at "...the rest of us...watching behind a screen", which sounds like one feeling bored and melancholic.
Although not everyone is to be a Crown Princess and a future Queen , we can have remarkable jobs and feel satisfied with our accompliahments in life.
Moreover, not everyone has the right stuff and talents to be a future Queen.
      Not an easy task indeed.
Mary always burns the candle at both ends and deserves people's admiration IMO, not only for the her beauty and clothes but for her service to her adopted country.
What is there to think about?

Mary is the youngest of four children. Two elder sisiters and a brother.
Maybe Mary talks about this in her book.
p.s. Happy 50th Birthday chère Princess Mary, future Queen of Denmark.

  20. The crown is too busy; I don't particularly like it. Mary has come a long way from Hobart via Sydney, didn't she work in the travel industry, I didn't think she was a business woman; if so working for? She met Fred in a pub in Sydney during the Olympics 2000.It is interesting he married an Australian ;that gives the throne a connection to Australia. like Willem Alexander of the Netherlands marrying Maxima that gives the Netherlands a connection to Argentina. Not sure when you have that cross over between celebrity and Majesty; fashion shoots; I think a certain amount of credibility is lost.(Tara)

  21. On some other sites they speak of Princess Mary as a business woman.
I don't agree with the expression.
I'd say she was a just a hard working, working girl like thousands of other young women in Australia.
Her forté was advertising and finance.
