On November 14, 2021, Former Princess Mako and her husband Kei Komuro departed from Tokyo's Haneda International Airport for New York to start their new life in the United States. The couple will live in New York where Kei Komuro works as a law clerk at a law office. The newlyweds are said to have expressed gratitude to the Imperial family and people who supported them before leaving.

Mako and Kei Komuro got married late last month after a more than three-year postponement and have been living in an apartment in Tokyo since then. Under the law governing the imperial household, Mako was obliged to relinquish her status as a member of the imperial family and is now regarded as a plain commoner.

  1. Ils forment un magnifique petit couple - Quelle métamorphose chez Mako qui est ravissante avec les cheveux lâchés et la frange effilée ; il me semble voir des reflets auburn - Kei n'est pas mal non plus !

  2. She looks absolutely lovely, the wispy extra long fringe, casual sweater and beautiful long loose hair. It is like day turned into night.

    1. You're so right, Nalerina; having lived in Japan for a couple of years myself (a period which I thoroughly enjoyed) I got the impression it's very difficult to be 'a good' Japanese citizen, royal or non-royal, as there are so many written and even far more unwritten rules which need to be respected. There's nothing wrong with traditions, but even these could benefit from some 'modernization' over time ...

Fashion wise I notice a breeze of fresh air in the above pictures; it suits both of them well!

  3. Is it the same Princess? (don't know if we can continue to call her a Princess).
What a transformation. A lovely glow of happiness in her face.
    Love her hairstyle.
My best wishes to them both for a long and happy marriage.
I'm anxious to see how they adjust to the New York fashion scene.
No doubt, white trainers for foot wear and the rest - wait and see.
And so another Royal taking up residence in the USA.
    Who'll be the next?

  5. Good luck to them both as they start a new life, away from the criticisms they faced in Japan. Mako looks very young and relaxed here with her hair loose. (V.M.)

  6. Both of them make a good looking modern couple. I wish them all the very best in their new life together!

The world is changing (for the better in my opinion) as members of Royal families who are distant from the throne are taking control of their lives and leaving to make a go of it for themselves. Some royal families have been doing this for decades, while others are just smartening up and getting into the game now.
The role of monarchies around the world today is vastly different to what it was centuries ago, so it's a good idea to act on your ambitions now before it's too late.

  9. Princess Mako has always been kind and dignified, but now she and her husband want privacy, real privacy (not like a couple from Sussex).
Why don't you respect their wishes? Mako suffered from a post-traumatic disorder because she was persecuted by journalists.

I think it is right to take pictures of the royal when they represent the monarchy or perform royal duties.
But when it comes to their private activities, please be respectful and leave them alone. I declare that I will boycott any article and photos that will interfere with the privacy of these people.

It would be nice of you not to post photos that intrude on privacy of these people.

    1. @Stephanie - Sussex is a county in south west England and there are thousands of couples who live there.
Can you give me a clue as to which couple from Sussex you are talking about?

    2. No intrusion here, as the couple was well aware of all the media attention going on at the airport prior to their departure. The Japanese people wanted to know about their farewell to Japan when leaving the country. It was more or less a semi-official affair. The last, we shall hope,

    6. I don't think pictures from their arrival in New York are a sign of, that they won't get no privacy in NY, but ' be' 'hunted'
      by papparazi photogtaphers ?
The Duke couple of Sussex have chosen ❗to be in the spotlight and more than they were as royal ... despited informing the opposite.
That Mako and husbond Kei first arrive in NY now and not as the media first wrote directly after they were married ....
      is a good sign, indeed.
They only have to leave the constitutional and official life behind and not their beloved family relations , IMO.
      May they get a ❤️-ly
life together in Big Apple , they have struggled so much to realize their love ❤️.

  11. I am so so happy for this couple. They look so young and cheerful compared to when she was officially a princess. They both look so relaxed. I'm praying for a great and wonderful future for both of them.

  12. I like to pick up the sentence of MCS "nothing wrong with traditions, but even these could benefit from some 'modernization".
