A new official portrait of Queen Margrethe has been released

The Pearl Poire tiara involves 18 drop pearls dangling from a structure of diamond arches. She wears a pair of earrings, necklace and a brooch

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Danish Queen Margrethe’s accession to the throne, a new official portrait of the Queen photographed in the Dome Hall at Fredensborg Palace by photographer Per Morten Abrahamsen has been released for the media, companies, municipalities, organizations, shops, clubs and towns that may take part in the celebration of the Queen’s upcoming jubilee.

In one and a half months, it will be 50 years since the death of Frederik the 9th and Queen Margrethe acceded to the Danish throne after her father. The 50th anniversary of Queen Margrethe’s accession to the throne, that is, her jubilee, will be celebrated with various events in mid-January with the participation of the royal family, representatives of official Denmark and a number of foreign guests.

  1. The Queen looks beautiful. And those jewels... WOW!!

  2. Somptueuse parure sur ce portrait dont la couleur lui va à merveille ; j'aurais peut-être enlevé les lunettes mais elle est quand-même magnifique !

  3. A beautiful portrait of a beautiful queen. But, the necklace, earrings and brooch seem heavy-handed and a bit messy. The necklace and earrings without the pendants, in my opinion, would have looked neater.

    1. I agree, the necklace is far too heavy.

    2. You obviously have no idea what a formal portrait of a queen is about or the significant of these jewels. Read the comment by Margot further down.

  4. Too much exposure of jewels... A single piece would have been enough. Unless she wants to be remembered for her pearls.

    1. This is not a portrait of the Queen alone, but an illustration of the history of Denmark.

  5. What a lovely portrait of the queen. She looks so young and pretty. A bit disturbing in the photograph are the two brooches and ribbon

  6. Magnificent.
And I'd say that PhotoShop didn't get invited.
    All looks natural to me.
I understand that the celebrations of her jubilee are going to continue throughout the year of 2022.
Maybe on the official Danish site, you can see the programme.
The seamstresses must be working overtime.

  7. A strange angle and edited cut in the middle of the brooch 🤔.

    1. It's just a different portrait. Like other photos, they had to cut it off somewhere... at the brooch or the waist or the end of the sash & then you're getting into full-length territory. Lower it & you cut the beautiful tiara off. It's always something. I think it's nice photo, a bit different. I appreciate Margrethe's natural hair color. She is looking very good for 81! ~Laurel~

  8. Mir gefällt nicht, dass sie den Betrachter nicht ansieht. Aber sie sieht sehr schön aus. Der Schmuck wirkt etwas überladen.

  10. A strange portrait: It seems to be all about the jewelry, not the Queen, who just happens to be laden down with all the pearls etc. gemma

  11. Queen Margrethe looks so lovely and regal. Just a beautiful combination of colors- gown, orders, sash and lipstick with those lustrous pearls. For those who feel this is too much- this is a Queen and exactly what Queen Elizabeth wears for state dinners. I think it looks great and the off angle to me goes great for this super intelligent and creative Queen who is looking great at 81.

What might be making the difference is the the Order of the Elephant sash is worn on the opposite shoulder as the Order of the Garter’s and most other orders’ sashes.

The floor i the background is great too, with the light blue it gives a little Alice in Wonderland vibe to me too.

  12. About the jewellery: the tiara, the pearl necklace and the brooch (shown only partially) together form a parure (set), which usually are used together for official photos and important gala events. They are ancient (approx. 200 years old). Part of their immense value is their historical value. This means that they are NOT redesigned according to any user's taste to make them "prettier" or more modern.
The "ribbon" is the sash of the highest order of Denmark. The two brooches with white+red and a pendant are part of a family order. (British royal family has similar, but with broad "ribbon" in varying colours. ) The brooches portray earlier monarchs, in Margarethe's case her father and grandfather.

  14. I do like the angle the photo's taken from: it's different and artistic like QM is. Although Margot (27/11/21, 20.26) explained the history/background of jewelry and sashes, I feel too much's going on in such a portrait picture. It might have looked different if QM was photographed when standing.

  15. Not sure if this was meant to be a portrait of the queen or of the jewels. Rather unfortunate choice.

    1. Tis is a formal portrait of the monarch and just as QEII wears state jewellery in formal portraits so does QMII.
The Pearl poiré tiara and parure (set) is one of Denmark's most important sets of jewellery at the queens disposal worn only by the queen for formal portraits and big galas. Danish stamps have pictures of her wearing this set as QEII wears her crown. It is about 200 years old and historical. This is not a set you tinker with. You design a dress to fit the jewellery , not the other way around. This pale blue dress is excellent.

    2. @ladyofthemanor: i havent seen a single picture of Queen Elisabeth carrying this amount of treasures... And also if this was true, i dont see why QMargareth should do the same..
The greatness of a monarch is not based on jewels, we are not in middle age anymore.

    3. precipice… you must be joking. Not only does Queen Elizabeth carry this amount of jewels for a mere state banquet, she especially does in an official portrait to mark a milestone in her reign. In fact, she has a different portrait (each with full bling) for many of the individual commonwealth countries because she is Queen in each separate nation and honors each nation’s heritage with different symbols and treasures.
Try “googling” Queen Elizabeth Golden Jubilee portraits- done for her 50 year mark, or her Diamond jubilee portraits. Look at the recent coronation of the Japanese Emperor or the Netherland’s King- you will see this same level of treasure wearing.
The monarch is a symbol/symbolic of the nation they represent and official portraits are littered with symbolism throughout history. Again this is not the Hollywood red carpet, this is monarchy.
Correction from earlier, I had mentioned the side order sashes are worn on and made a mistake. The Order of the Garter is worn on the same side as the Order of the Elephant (left shoulder) most others are worn on the right shoulder. Kudos to Margot (27/11/21 20:26), loved reading your detailed post.

    4. @glo:
Glo, my country is full if pieces of art, and im aware that crown jewels are symbols of a monarchy and have a history. I would prefer, anyway, that these items were shown in an exposition rather than on the neck of an old queen. A modern monarchy must be founded on different values than gold and diamonds.
That s my opinion, for those who are able to understand it.
That being said, i have already stated in my first post, that i would have appreciated a single piece of jewellery in the pic of QM, which would have made the photo much more sober and classy than it looks the way it is.

You seem to come from another planet.
You do not even know what royal portraits and jewels worn by monarchs mean.
You only seem good at changing names and languages just to write nonsense, which everybody are aware of.
You don't even know how to google to get correct information.

There isnt any policy, there isnt any runner of the site who can make an intervention to avoid offending people.

Look at your problems and changing identities and do not try to change things.
It does not work with me.
You would do anything for five minutes' attention.
I reject all the vicious accusations you make and what you said can be applied to you , since I have nothing to hide.
As I once said, you can ask Ms Electra if you have any doubts about me and everyone can do the same with you and report about you.

  20. if your ms Electra can solve doubts, you call her and you ask her about your insane theories!!!
There isnt any Electra on here, otherwise you would have been banned for being so offensive and obsessed.
Your same old story has bored me.
Stay AWAY from me, you have had already enough attention from me.
