On September 16, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall visited the Isle of Skye in Scotland. During the visit, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall toured the island capital Portree, and there, attended a performance by famous Gaelic singer Robert Robertson, the frontman for folk-rock band Tide Lines.

At Skyeskyns, the couple toured the only remaining commercial woolskin tanner in Scotland and a sheepskin gift was presented to them by the company's founding director Lydia Hartwell. The couple then visited the design shop OR.

The red color suits the duchess well, but the collar with the tartan check does not do the long coat any good in my opinion. The nude shoes should be replaced with an equally comfortable pair in a different color. The prince looks dressed in his kilt.

I agree about the coat of duchess Camilla. The tartan collar does not match the check of her skirt (photo 4 & 5). The shoes should be black or another dark color (very dark green or dark wine red perhaps).

    2. I agree with MCS, the tartan check collar somehow does not compliment this nice coat, and I think the colours are not quite right, too pale.
Also, the collared blouse she wears is a different kind of red, it just does not harmonize. The colour of the shoes is wrong, darker shoes would be better.

    3. The shoes are tan, designed to blend with your legs. Far better than black or white and go with most things. More important they look comfortable, l don't know how some of the younger royals walk in their heels, they are nearly walking on tip toe.

  2. I appreciate how Camilla honors the Scottish dress by wearing tartan plaids. I think her red coat is very nice and the tartan trim coordinates nicely with it. I must say that Charles looks dashing in kilts. I rather like the shortened jackets the men wear with their kilts.

Wonder how they would dress in 'traditional form' if they went to Alaska, or amongst the Hopi Indian Tribe? Neither outfit is particularly nice. Its just another other day, another outfit that is neither here, nor there. jj

    1. Prince Charles has Scottish heritage hence the traditional outfits. They would not dress up in other countries so your comment is rather irrelevant. Personally I think they look great and I love the red coat. I agree that it would have been nice if the tartan on the collar matched the skirt.

Elizabeth, your perspective is yours. Mine is mine, please don't be rude and try to bully me by saying my thoughts are irrelevant. It is well known that the royals dress up in national costume for many countries, or maybe you are not aware of that. Have a great day Elizabeth, and I hope you understand bullying with your words is not nice, even though you can't see me, I am a real person, just as you are. You didnt see me making comments about your thoughts on the photos, you saw a real person making a comment based on my perspective. :) jj

Elizabeth, I agree. Charles & Camilla would not dress like an Inuit or a Hopi, it's not their culture, what would be the point, it would almost be considered an insult to some people. If invited to, then yes; otherwise, dress as yourself & your own culture (it's not offensive). Camilla looks very nice in those colors. ~Laurel~

    4. I apologise and the last thing I was trying to do is bully you or be rude. It is absolutely against my nature and I am horrified that you should think so. I follow and have for a long time all royal families and perhaps I am a little sensitive. I agree that royals often wear relevant items to the country they are visiting eg the Queen wearing green to visit Ireland and Kate's glorious outfits for her visit to Pakistan and Bhutan. I therefore apologise unreservedly .

Elizabeth, your comment wasn't bullying. Maybe you didnt need to make the comment you did but really what you said was not in anyway deserving of the over sensitive reaction it got.

Elizabeth, your words were not helpful. We all have opinions, you expressed yours, and put someone else's down. And, the royals do dress in other countries forms of dress, using fabrics, coats, shawls, look at trips to Asian or Indian countries, or Northern European countries. clair

  5. I happen to like the tartan collar, a little coordination with Prince Charles (who I always love seeing in his kilt). I think Camilla looks good in red, especially since we don't often see her in such bright color.

Okay. Skye is a really beautiful place even when it's raining. Portree is a lovely little city. The bands name is Tide Lines - they've got a YouTube channel. Like their music it's kind ofFolk Rock. Fashionwise there has everything been said. Business as usual. When in Scotland glad in Tartan. But as it's one thing to be sure of it's not that bad. I notice that Charles' kilts and coats are in much better condition than his suits. This really emphasizes the need for him to refresh his closet or have his suits recut. Camilla does look nice in red. Those shoes have so much orange in the color that they ruin most of her outfits. I believe she does have another pair of shoes that are more of a nude tone she could defer to, but in this case a dark shoe would have looked better. If she likes these golden retriever colored shoes due to comfort, perhaps she could have them dyed to a more wearable color. ~d

Love the bright, red coat with the tartan collar. Dark shoes would be horrendous and to ‘wintery’. The pale shoes are good this time around.

  9. How fantastic to see them in Portree. I so wish I had been there (I have a family house in Skye at the other side of the island ) As previously stated, as a Scot, I love to see the tartan on outfits worn by the female Royals in Scotland, as I love to see them weave into their outfits the colours of other countries visited. Apart from the shoes, I love Camilla's outfit here. The red coat with the grey tartan underneath is superb.

    1. Annie M: Lucky you, Annie! Since I visited Skye years ago with my child who studied in Scotland, I fell in love with this beautiful island. And the tartans, tweed an woolen crafts of Scotland are unique:)

Charles and Camilla look very smart. I would not change anything they are wearing. I think Prince Charles and Camilla have their own personality and know what suits them best. Red suit Camilla.

  11. Love the outfits on both Prince Charles and Camilla. It would be difficult to rumple a kilt like a summer suit....comments on Charles suits which probably have linen for comfort. Kilts are almost indestructible. Beautiful items of clothing.

@ JJ, can you elaborate about the Royals dressed in “ costume ” as you call it? I am aware of them dressing in their own countries national attire, but never on a foreign nation’s outfit. Sometimes they will wear something by local designers, or inspired in their culture, but never on their official attire.
    Thanks

  13. Agree that the tarten collar on the coat just does not work but it is beautifully made. Perhaps she should have had the coat all one colour and just paired it with a tartan blouse. The coat could also have had a plain collar and that piping on the sleeves and pocket edges with the colour picked up from one of the tarten colours.
