Yes indeed she does and I'm sure she'll feel quite comfortable with other teenage mindsets her at her new school in Wales. Good for her.

She is the 'Royal Runner-up' like so many others (Prince Harry, Prince Carl Philippe, and her uncles to name a few), and knows the limited royal possibilities ahead of her (unless she marries into royalty, or the lines of succession change) so is preparing for a possible life relatively out of the formal spotlight within the next couple of decades, which I think is a smart move, and no doubt guided by her parents. This is the time for her to slowly begin writing her own story. So exciting.

  5. Quelle dégaine dans ce jean même si c'est dans le style de certaines adolescentes ; c'est autre chose que Leonor qui va la retrouver là-bas !

Yeah Vanessa really, she's a teenager. Some adults wear ripped jeans too. They've been around for years if you hadn't noticed.

A girl after my own heart. I love the jeans; I have an exact pair, I had a knee op and the wires are a bit of a problem ;so these type of designer jeans are just right. All the best to Alexia for the school year.

Charming, she looks like most teenagers, c’mon ladies! ripped jeans is just another trend that perhaps seems shocking for those of a very advanced age :-) do you remember the huge bell bottoms s , mini skirts, hot pants, leg warmers.. etc., ? You guys sound like you lived in that era, did you never wear anything edgy at your tender age ?
    Love her outfit.

    1. By the way I am not chocked, dear. Just don't like it, but have rather a neat outfit. I like mini skirts, skinny pants etc, and some other edgy pieces. Some young teenagers have very good taste as well. I am not older than the average here I think. Some fashion trends are just ridiculous.

I was about to say this very thing. We all were young once and went with the trends in clothes, hair, music, and even food. Our parents didn't necessarily understand or like any of it, but it is part of growing up. My mom called my music "noise", and still does! I remember my practical and frugal grandpa thinking my pants had enough fabric to make another pair of pants. :) Alexia is not going to school to act royal, she is going to school as a teenaged girl. At some point in their lives, they must be allowed to have some normalcy. I am having trouble understanding why this is so difficult for so many. ~d

    3. I had a look at the e-commerce website of ZARA, and 34 jeans are ripped, against 318 are not ; so it is far away from a majority. Of course you need not to be a highly qualified stylist to rip jeans yourself ...

  12. Natassa and Anonymous CB, do you tell everybody who does not share your taste that they "do not live on this planet" or are "of a very advanced age"?

You have made an assumption as well. Why do you assume "Designer[s] [are] making fun of rags and poorness"? I don't think any designer would agree with your assessment of them. I am sure they would be quite offended by your statement. As disgusted as you may be, the ladies who lived through the Victorian and Edwardian eras must have been far more shocked as hems went up, and ankles were shown. Imagine all the bottles of smelling salts that were sold when mini skirts were the rage! Their clothes were smaller than their mother's and grandmother's undergarments. This is the history of fashion. Youth find new and shocking things to wear, ways to color and style their hair, body parts to pierce, etc. 'Youth' now extends from tweens to people into their 20s and 30s, not just teens. You don't have to like the idea or look of distressed and deconstructed jeans. You aren't wearing them. It is no different than not liking clothes we look at here, but understanding they are right for the person wearing them because of their age, for example. Reacting so strongly to these jeans, without any understanding for who is wearing them and why they are on trend (and have been for a several years) does come across like one has been living under a rock or is an old fuddy-duddy. I think we all need to remember our own youth before judging. Alexia won't keep this style for the rest of her life just as Zara didn't keep the piercing in her tongue. We all grow up. ~d

I would think differently if she had appeared like this at a royal event, but she did not. Alexia dressed for her first day at boarding school, not for a royal occasion. At the school, she will not stand out dressed like this.
I think we also need to consider that she is not the heir. It's unlikely pictures of Leonor or Alexia's sister Amalia dressed in ripped jeans for their first day of school would have been shared. But it has been made clear by the Dutch Royal House that Alexia will never be a working royal. She only makes a couple of royal appearances per year and it will never be more; she will have to find her own career.
So here's a teenage girl who will have to find her own path in the "regular world", albeit a privileged one. The outfit is fine for that and most importantly, she seems happy and excited for her new adventure!

  15. @ Coralie... you sure have a taste for the dramatic... Designers making fun of the poor? Sounding all offended because somebody humorously mentioned that some here sound like a grumpy grandma? Although she used more delicate lingo....
you have to admit that your comment sounds rather melodramatic, I can almost hear the huffing and puffing... lighten up is called humor.
    Cheers
