On June 18, King Felipe, Queen Letizia, Crown Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia attended the presentation ceremony of the "Order of the Civil Merit", at the Royal Palace in Madrid. The Order of Civil Merit (Orden del Mérito Civil) was established by King Alfonso XIII of Spain in 1926. The order recognizes 'the civic virtue of officers in the service of the Nation, as well as extraordinary service by Spanish and foreign citizens for the benefit of Spain'.

I love the colour coordination of the family: Queen Letizia and Sofia are wearing red/ pink; Leonor and King Felipe are wearing blue/ light blue and the king wears a pink tie. Perfection.
    All look good.
Personally I do not like the cut of the dress of Leonor. It ages her. But it must be difficult to find an appropriate dress for her age and the occasion.

Leonor is wearing a really lovely dress!
At last, not a child anymore and self conscious in a good way!

Ça y ressemble beaucoup - J’adore, j’adore !!

Leanor is so pretty but her dress would be less matronly in a brighter color, a bit shorter. Love Sofia’s dress!

"matronly" = ugly on young women because it makes them look older (does it really?) but good enough for old women because they are old anyway. I see ... and greyish colour good enough for oldies but not for young ones. Would red then be inappropriate for an old lady? Confused (to be frank, also disappointed and disgusted ) about so much unreflected age-speak among women. (-Ann.)

    2. 😀 Ann, I think you are taking offence where none is intended. We see many of our most elegant older royals ——-, Queens Elizabeth, Margethe and Sonia come to mind immediately—-in bright colours and they look great. Conversely, very dark colours can be unnecessarily ageing on a younger person. Equally, the use of the term matronly implies that something would be more suited to an older person , not necessarily ugly. personally, while I like all the outfits today, Leonor’s is my favourite. I love her shoes and think she looks so elegant and grown up

I don't find this dress matronly at all. The color works well with Leonor's coloring. I prefer the model's shoes but Leonor's are a good choice for someone getting used to wearing heels. Love Letizia's earrings and dress. Sofia's dress is nice- not sure if it needed the trim on the shoulders.

I agree with Mrs Cleaver to a great extent. I find the dress ages Leonor unnecessarily, and a bright colour would have been fresher; Leonor could have changed outfit colours and styles with her mother, and worn the bright dress shorter. The colour seems to be a dusty blue. - Thank you for your comment, Mrs Cleaver! - Ellie

    5. Nice dress for Leonor, she wears it shorter than the model, that is fine. Her shoes are ok.

  7. Excellent family effort. Coordinated but not matchy-matchy.
I really like Leonor´s dress. It is formal but not the least matronly, I think. It looks just lovely in my view and has some interesting features that take center stage thanks to the muted colour. My only little quibble is that the hem is lower in the front than in the back, but other than that it is superb. I even think that her altered version looks much better than the original.
Leonor - perfectly fine but maybe not the ideal choice for being seated in front of an audience.
Letizia - I wonder if she chose a longer dress just because she would be sitting in front of an audience. If so, it´s a practical choice, but from a fashion point of view, I think her dress is actually too long. It would have looked better at just below the knee. The cut of her dress is simple but flattering, and here, the vibrant colour is the main feature.
    Felipe looks great, as always.

  8. The way this family coordinates is fantastic.
To see CP Leonor coordinating with her father (as his heir) in this blue gray and then Queen Letizia and Sofia in this pink is gorgeous. I love the color of Queen Letizia's dress. Since the cut is simple, the color can stand on its own. And her earrings are one of my favorite pairs. I also love Sofia's dress, perfect for a young lady. CP Leonor's dress has an interesting cut, it looks good on her, if it does age her a tad. King Felipe looks as handsome as ever.

  9. What a beautiful family--and I like the color coordination even though its probably accidental! Queen Letizia looks great in that vibrant pink--she can wear bright colors so well. I am so happy to see Leonor now consistently wearing heels and dresses that are more grown-up--she is a young lady of 15 and a future queen and she beginning to look the part more these days. She looks very pretty, even elegant in her dress. Sofia looks wonderful too--in fact, I like her dress the best! If she was also allowed to wear heels--wow! Both princesses are getting tall--I think even taller than their mother since the Queen wears towering heels while Sofia wears flats and Leonor wears kitten type heels.

  11. I don't really like Leonor's dress at all. My first reaction was OO! she would have looked gorgeous in Letitias dress and that dress would actually look better on Letitia. Matronly in my head is a large lady with ample bosom strapped up in a tight corset and bolt upright carriage and very bossy. I know it is silly but that is what I think about . I just think the style of Leonor's dress does nothing for her body shape and distracts from het absolutely beautiful face and stunning hair. She seems to have Letitias thick well behaved hair as well as her figure lucky girl.

    2. Nothing could make you take your eyes off the beautiful face of Leonor and her little queenly bearing.
In a 15-year-old girl, looking a little older, I don't think it becomes a problem, because she looks like she is ... 18,.. We have already seen 11, 12, 13 and 14 year old princesses look like 30 year old women.
Eleanor's dress is simply that of a princess
Strange description of "matron" for such a sweet and delicate girl, but it seems that the Spanish have a very different taste from other countries. Honestly, I stay with the way to vetir our princesses. Greetings

Which English person are you addressing Lucrecia? And what has Catherine, a 39 year old woman, got to do with a teenager?

Seriously, why do you have to make silly assumptions just because you disagree that she looks matronly?

  13. I like Leonor's dress ,it's not my favorite but it's ok, and this is the first time she wears a a tight dress where her breast is marked, so of course, she looks more adult than we were used to think of her. The one dress I found it was really for a much more old person, even for a granny, was the one she wore for her speech at the Princess of Asturias awards, the golden 2 pieces dress, awful dress, I doubt she chose it. But this one blue dress looks perfectly ok for her age. What I don' t like are the shoes. The dress would look more youthful with other shoes, for example something of the style that the model is wearing, but, I suppose, it looked less formal too.

The dress I like the most here is the one Sofia is wearing, the colors and the design are cheerful and it looks a very comfortable dress, especially for hot weather. It's perfect for her age too.
On the contrary, I don't like Letizia's one, I find it very simple, the color is too much intense, and it's too long and too close at the neck. I don't think favors her.

  14. While I think the princesses are both lovely, I'm not a fan of either dress. I think Leonor's is ok but could have done without the gathered bit at the side. From the waist up it is beautiful, then the bottom half looks drab. I don't get why she doesn't wear normal heels, she is almost sixteen, she should ditch the granny heels. Sofia's dress seems for a much younger girl.
