The Duchess of Cambridge's Hold Still photography project is being turned into a book which creates a "lasting record" of the nation's experience of lockdown during the pandemic. A new photo of the Duchess of Cambridge has been released for the announcement of the new book 'Hold Still: A Portrait of Our Nation in 2020'. The new photo of the Duchess was taken by Matt Porteous in 2020.
The Hold Still project, which was launched one year ago, attracted 31,000 entries from photographers of all ages last May, with 100 final images later chosen to appear in a digital exhibition as well as in community exhibitions across the UK. The book bringing together the final 100 Hold Still images will be available in UK bookshops and online from Friday May 7. Funds raised from the sale of the book will be split between leading mental health charity, Mind and the National Portrait Gallery.

Interesting project. A photo says more than a thousand words. I hope they didn´t just go for artsy photos but some honest documentation. And I wonder how a follow-up image collection one year later would look like. Would make for an interesting comparison, I´m sure, probably showing a nation severely depressed, anxious about the future, politically torn, physically weakened and mentally burnt-out from the crisis. Let´s be honest.

I hope the book will do well although, to be completely honest, I have my doubts how many people will actually be interested to buy it, many of the photos have already been shown publicly in so many occasions. Probably only the family and friends of those whose photos have been featured, as a nice souvenir.... but I will be very happy to be proven wrong.
ReplyDeleteOn the fashion side, nothing special to comment on, a rather classic conservative and occasion-appropriate look that we have come to expect from the Duchess. The top is not the Sezane one though, the collar is completely different, it is open and doesn't have lace....

ReplyDeleteLove the berry red sweater and, as Roslyn says, the combo of blouse and sweater is great. Although there is not a great deal to say about the fashion, I think this is one of the most natural and engaging photos of the Duchess that I have seen for a long time.

ReplyDeleteThe burgundy sweater is the Fjallraven Re Wool sweater. It is identical to her green version. No longer available but it used to be sold in both colors. It is not the first time she buys something she likes in multiple colors.
ReplyDeleteDuchess Catherine helped people through the Pandemic by giving them an interest ;and to become aware what is around you. Several of my friends in the U.K sent me lovely Christmas cards with photo's they had taken on them.
