Queen Mathilde visited the exhibition "Children of the Renaissance" (Kinderen van de Renaissance) at Museum Hof van Busleyden in Mechelen to support the cultural sector, which has been severely affected by the corona crisis in recent months. The exhibition tells the story of three generations of Burgundian-Habsburg princes and princesses who grow up in 16th-century Mechelen through works of art, writings and utensils.

For the Burgundian and the early Habsburg princes, Mechelen was not only an important political and cultural hub but also an educational centre. The exhibition features a unique selection of children’s portraits, which were commissioned for the palace at Mechelen, and also tells the historical, educational and artistic story behind them.

  1. Nicely dressed in her own style. The coat is a re-use, however I don't like the hair styling today (hair turned towards the exterior) more old fashioned in my view.

    1. In case you are interested, there has been a recent retrospective tv programme about King Albert and Queen Poala. It is available on RTL/TVi channel (+/- 1.30hs programme) in French.

  2. This shade of green is pretty and the coordinating mask is a nice touch. The queen is beautiful regardless of what she wears, but, I think wearing the coat as a cape does not enhance her appearance. From what I see, the "collar" appears to be in the form of a jabot, for lack of a better word, and if the coat were fastened at the neck, it would be centered. However, as worn, the coat becomes unbalanced on her shoulder causing the hem to be uneven to the eye.

Love the green dress on Mathilde. The colour shade is lovely. I usually don't mind when coats are worn as capes, but this coat definitely shouldn't be worn as one, given those extra folds and the stiffer sleeves.

I love how Mathilde mask, always matches her outfit. It's the new fashion phase !
I don't mind the coat draped over the shoulders. I always think that's a Maxima trend ! Ana

  9. Nice green dress and matching mask but the coat slung across the shoulders is even more ridiculous indoors. Totally spoils the look for me

  10. This is not the coat to wear over the arms (which I don't care for anyway), but with the extra around the shoulders it just adds bulk. However, I do like the dress. The color suits her and looks to be a good fit.

the material of the coat on the 'her left' side is terrible. looks droopy, the hemline is weirdly long.
