Queen Elizabeth delivered Commonwealth Day 2021 speech

Traditionally, a service is held every year at Westminster Abbey to mark Commonwealth Day. Due to the pandemic, no service was held this year. Instead, Queen Elizabeth delivered her Commonwealth Day 2021 speech in the programme called ‘A Celebration for Commonwealth Day’, which was broadcast on Sunday 7 March on BBC ONE.

The Commonwealth represents a global network of 54 countries with a total population of 2.4 billion people, and a vast community which spans every geographical region, religion and culture.

Other members of the Royal Family also participated in the programme. The Prince of Wales recorded a message addressing the universal devastation caused by the pandemic. The Duchess of Cornwall spoke to broadcaster Clare Balding about the importance of books and reading for children across the Commonwealth, especially in a year of isolation and disrupted education.

On the occasion of Commonwealth Day and International Women’s Day, which is also celebrated on Monday 8th March, The Countess of Wessex made video calls to three women from the Commonwealth to speak with them about their experiences of supporting other women and their wider communities.

  1. What a beautiful and warm message of hope, unity, collaboration and respect for each other. Can't help thinking of what is going on on the other side of the Ocean where the spirit of separation, attack, reprimand and victimhood rules.
Whether you are for or against the monarchy, one must admire this woman who is still doing her duty with utmost dignity. And wearing amazing clothes, I must add.

Well, to my eye at least, the spirit of attack seems to rule in these comments, as well.

Lovely blue colours. Much respect for Queen Elizabeth 2 and the 'firm' for their service to country and the commonwealth.

  4. La reine est toute pimpante dans ce tailleur/jupe de couleur bleue ; j'aime beaucoup sa broche qu'elle porte assez souvent !

  6. Isn't she great? And isn't it good to be able to focus on positives after the very real suffering that so many people have had to endure this past year. The bright blue suits her wonderfully-- I can actually only think of one bright colour that I personally didn't like and that was a lurid neon green that she wore for Trooping the Colour in June 2016--though others may have loved it!

Though the Queen looks great as always but I have to say - she looks aged, for the first time.

I feel for the Queen and the Prince. They shouldn't go through this well into their 90s..

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth; as Queen of Australia has certainly remained steadfast to her vow at the coronation; she has served our nation .Her Majesty's suit looks particularly striking. The Monarchy are apolitical; and throughout the Commonwealth whether the country is small or large we have a common bond to help and to serve our nations in good times and bad. Let us not forget the institution of the Monarchy has been around for many generations. Vice Chair of the Monarchist League in South Australia. Muriel

Wonderful tribute to the Commonwealth and the many nations who work together to maintain it with the Queen, a faithful inspiration to all (especially for women to admire today). Great innovative way to highlight this worldwide community amidst COVID limitations. Love her blue, she looks great in this shade, and it is so sweet that she wore her honeymoon brooch (a first time for this brooch on Commonwealth Day). Charles is dapper in his shades of blue too. Intrigued by Camilla’s dress navy blue or black (?) but the blazer seems a mismatch. I also like Countess of Wessex look (in pic not zoom) just wish she wore another color besides black. Already commented on how nice William and Catherine look in previous post.

  12. Queen Elizabeth is in a class all her own. What dedication she has for the good of people in general, and to those in the Commonwealth in particular. I can't think of another person who works so hard to do good. Good bless her. She looks wonderful in blue and I love her suit and the beautiful brooch.
