Duke and Duchess of Cambridge made a video call to a family supported by Shout 85258

Earlier this week, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge made a video call to a family whose lives were changed by a text message to the Shout 85258 mental health support service. The text message was sent by Jack, a 12 year old child who experienced severe anxiety during the pandemic and was about to commit suicide.

The boy reached out to the charity while standing on a bridge, and a volunteer listened to him and helped him find the courage to call the police for help, effectively preventing Jack from ending his life. During their conversation, the Duke and Duchess received information about the circumstances that led Jack, their 12-year-old son, to contact with Shout and the life-saving impact that help from Shout caused.

Shout85258 is the UK's first 24/7 text messaging support service, which provides a free and confidential platform for conversations around mental health to ensure no-one has to face their problems alone. The service was established in cooperation with The Royal Foundation as a legacy of the Heads Together campaign and was set up with a donation from The Royal Foundation.

And this is how you do hair during COVID, impeccable and well groomed as always, no excuses, just innate style.

  5. I admire this couple more and more. They do good work for those less fortunate and, I'm sure, because of that they are much loved in the UK and elsewhere. I love Catherine's polka dot shirt. Her makeup accentuates her cheekbones but is not overdone. Her lip color is a pretty shade of pink. With her hair pulled away from her face, we can see the detail of her pretty earrings.

Agree completely. Also love Williams sweater- he is branching out from blues to greens- looks good and nice contrast with Catherine’s top. This video was just amazing and such a great reminder of Shout. So glad Jack was helped, perhaps even this will give a line of hope to many.

Can't even discuss fashion. It seems so trivial and insignificant in light of the subject of the video. So glad that an organization like SHOUT was able to save the life of someone in mortal distress, and a 12yo child at that. There are so many hundreds and thousands more like that dear boy and his parents trying to cope with hard times. Let's hope that they all find the help and the hope that they need.

    2. I wholeheartedly agree, Anon 9:13. Very well said.
Having struggled with severe anxiety for years now, I can relate. Sometimes, fear can be inescapable and destroying. I hope and wish with you that other people suffering, can find the courage and strength to ask for help and to hold on.
I love how you can see and feel Kate and William's genuine compassion for these people.

A big 'Thank You' to all of you above for your compassion.
And Rosalyn, thank you for sharing your personal experience. May your success in coping/dealing with your trials be an inspiration to anyone reading this who may need that hand of hope, or to spur another to help someone who does.

    4. Thank you to Anon 9:13 and Rosalyn for sharing your touching comments.
William ,Kate and Shout are doing an excellent work and yes, fashion seems so insignigicant when talking about young lives experiencing that mortal distress.
I teared up in watching the video too.

  7. So profoundly sad. I'm so glad that boy received help and was able to get through such a dark time. Life is rather hard right now - we need to look around and support each other!

I am not ashamed to say I teared up watching the video. I cannot even imagine going through something like that with a child. SHOUT has an ideal platform for reaching out for help, and I am so glad they are getting the recognition they deserve. William and Kate look so concerned and moved by Jack's story, as anyone would be, and it must really hit home knowing that their own George is not so many years away from Jack's age.

Fashion is very secondary here. Kate looks wonderful, polished yet casual. I really like her hair pulled back, and am happy to see more simple earrings instead of the gemstone earrings that she so often wears. Her makeup is flawless. I agree with Glo that is nice to see William branching out from his blue comfort zone. That seems to be the go-to color for so many and it is boring at this point. He can wear so many other colors successfully. ~d

Only twelve years old! That’s heartbreaking...I’m forever grateful that he got help when he needed it the most. My older brother went through some hard times in his early twenties, with severe depression and anxiety, and I very much understand the toll this must have taken on this boy’s family. I have no doubt that this support service will save many more lives in the years to come.

Kate's outfits have always inspired me a lot. I have this blouse and I wear it with black pants or a pencil skirt to work

    Kate looks amazing, as always.
But her biggest asset is that she behaves with dignity and kindness. I hadn't heard her complain about anything yet.
