On December 13, 2020, with a video they released on their official Instagram and Facebook pages, Norwegian Crown Prince family, that is, Crown Prince Haakon, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus wished everyone a happy third Sunday of Advent and a merry Christmas from their residence, Skaugum in Asker. The video was shared with the following message: "Today we light the third Advent candle and the Crown Prince family wish everyone a very merry Christmas."

On November 29, 2020, Queen Sonja had done the thing millions of people around the world did and lighted the first candle of the Advent out of a total of four candles to mark the beginning of Advent at the start of the countdown to Christmas.
