Queen Silvia digitally inaugurated Barnahus Jämtland. The Barnahus (which literally means Children’s House) model was adopted for the purpose of creating a specific legal system that responds to the special needs of children about whom there is suspicion that they have been subjected to violence or abuse.
Queen Silvia took part in the online inauguration of Barnahus Jämtland

During the online inauguration of Barnahus Jämtland, the Queen said, among other things: "I am delighted to see how the Orphanage Model is passed on and reaches more and more people. The Convention on the Rights of the Child applies to all children - but not in Sweden do we yet reach all children who need it. With Barnahus Jämtland, we can open the door for children throughout Jämtland County and offer them a safe place with support and help."

Barnahus project was realized as a result of a collaboration between the Public Prosecutor's Office, the Police Authority, the Jämtland Härjedalen Region and all eight municipalities in the counties of Berg, Bräcke, Härjedalen, Krokom, Ragunda, Strömsund, Åre and Östersund. It was firstly implemented in 1998 by Iceland followed by other Nordic countries (Sweden in 2005, Norway in 2007, Greenland in 2011, Denmark in 2013) under the name "Barnahus" or Children´s House.
