The Autumn Memorial Service is held annually in the middle of October by the Memorial Foundation. About 1,000 attendees took part in the Memorial Service. The memorial service is held in honour of the spirits of the soldiers, military employees, and citizens who lost their lives in war. A highlight of this service is the worship and moment of silence led by an Imperial family member.

  1. The jacket is beautifully tailored, but it but the skirt looks a bit big. I’m not sure this is a flattering hat style on her - it’s sits so low that it seems to swallow her up.

    1. Very much agreed on all points.
Those are the 2 things that I just can't look away from in the picture.

  2. Looks like colour was not permitted (except for the flowers in the background.
There's something wrong with the Princess's skirt. A size or two too large?

  3. I agree, the suit looks way too big for her.

  5. I know it's a sombre occasion and it's a very conservative court but I really don't like this look. She looks like a 1920s governess - the style of hat just adds to this impression.

  6. He needs a hair cut. Her skirt is 2 sizes (or so) too large, too long, as is the hat too large.

  7. I agree that Kiko's skirt is a very unflattering cut. It is too long and much too wide. Black gloves would have been more in keeping with the somber mood of the occasion, but I can't recall seeing black gloves before. The bowler-type hat returns. It is not flattering to her or with her suit. She disappears under this style of hat. She looks much better when wearing a hat further back on her head. I also agree that Akishino needs a haircut. He goes to the trouble to dye it black, so he must care how it looks. Apparently the styles are different in Japan.

  8. From Joann: Princess Kiko is usually very elegant, but something is very off here. The skirt is too long and appears too big for her frame. Wearing that style of hat with the mask makes it out of proportion to her face - not much skin showing. She should have worn at hat that sits back on the head with her hair styled out from the brim. And the white gloves, I don't think, fit with that color. Black or dark brown would have been better. (But it was a somber occasion so, perhaps, focusing on her clothes is not important.)

  9. I think half of the problem is that it may not be a skirt but a loosely styled waist skimming dress underneath that jacket. I cannot see otherwise why it looks so odd. It is not like her, her clothes are usually very elegant. The length is also very unflattering to her.

    1. That is a good point. It may be a dress.
