On September 8, 2020, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain took part in the Volunteer Day event held at Palacio de Viana in Córdoba. Volunteer Day (Día del Cooperante) is celebrated in Spain to honor Spanish volunteers who make an immense contribution to sustainable development and eradication of poverty in the most vulnerable regions of the world.

Volunteer Day or Development Cooperation Day is celebrated on September 8, because on this day in 2000, the United Nations Millennium Declaration was adopted at the Millennium Summit held at the UN Headquarters in New York City. The declaration included the Millennium Development Goals such as eradication of hunger and extreme poverty, universal primary education, gender equality and women’s empowerment, reduction of child mortality, improvement of maternal health, malaria, and other diseases, environmental sustainability, and global partnership for development.

The celebration of the Volunteer Day was started by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), which was founded in 1988 under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Spain. The main tasks of the agency is to design and implement development cooperation projects and programs, as well as to coordinate humanitarian work abroad. The agency's work largely depends on volunteers who apply their professional skills in the world’s most deprived regions.

  1. I am not sure what I think of this dressIi think the uneven hemline bothered me. Then I saw that on the model it is without a belt and have decided that the added belt is what has spoilt its casualness and made the hem look wrong. Altogether not one of my favourite Letitia dresses. The Duchess of Cambridge has something very similar in tweed that has been on this blog in the last year but that one I thought was a susscess.

    1. The dress is not meant to have an uneven hem, as is evident from the model. I think Letizia´s way of wearing it off-shoulder is what´s causing the problems. If she had worn the dress as intended, it would have created a round neckline, and the row of buttons would have ended up hanging lower.
It´s simply not sitting right on her.
But I don´t like the dress much anyway.

  2. I guess the Scandinavian countries are not affected by the Corona Virus anymore as they are not wearing masks but people in other countries like Spain and Belgium they seem to wear them all the time.
Letizia's dress and shoes are nice, but I'd like the dress better worn over the shoulders like the model.

Even the Scandinavian countries are affected by the coronavirus, but much less than other countries. Keeping safe distance is considered as the most important combined with washing one's hands. Masks are recommended, specially if safe distance is not possible, but masks are not obligatory. Even other recommendations or "not allowed to do" are used. Sweden has been the most affected country.

Indeed she is! I've noticed lately that the queen and both girls are so thin. They are so beautiful anyway.

@ Lize, would you say " she is so fat" if the opposite was true?
      Rude!

    3. It is not an easy time for the Monarchy in Spain.

@CB This exactly! Pointing out body size has got to stop. It makes no difference if a person is bigger or smaller. Just stop!

    5. Of course it makes a difference to how one looks if one is thin or fat-similarly if they are tall or short. It's dressing to suit shape that matters and Queen Letizia does it perfectly. Queens Maxima and Mathilde are bigger both in height and width, for example, but, generally, choose clothes to suit their figures. Equally you can look at Queens Margrethe or Elizabeth and see how their style has changed as they have got older and their body shape has changed.

AnnieM, you are missing the point.

Lize simply says "She is so thin". Period.

Anon 12:39 follows up with "Indeed she is! I've noticed lately that the queen and both girls are so thin. They are so beautiful anyway."

They are so beautiful "anyway"?? "Anyway", as in they would look more beautiful if they weren't so thin? You don't point out weight. Ever. How do you know they are comfortable with their weight? Thin people can be just as sensitive about their weight as heavy people can be. Nothing was said about the way Letizia dresses for her body type. Nothing was said about how her daughters dress their bodies (and shouldn't have been given the fact that they are still minors). The comment was strictly about their weight. Anon 7:35 was correct. If you wouldn't say it about a heavy person, you don't say it about a thin person.

  4. From the waist up, this dress is nice. From the waist down, not so much. It is a dress, not culottes, right? It looks like culottes. I'm not fond of the fringed hemline either. Her shoes and clutch are gorgeous, and I like that the Queen and King are color matched.

  5. Cette création Zara en tweed avec une encolure-bateau va très bien à Letizia à part le bas de celle-ci dont le bord est frangé ; je trouve que ce n'est pas vraiment élégant. Superbe pochette et escarpins Herrera dont j'adore le style !

The off-the-shoulder dress seems inappropriate for the event. Looks better on the model with the shoulders covered.

I think the combination of the bare shoulders with a woolen tissue is strange, and even Letizia cannot make it better.

I think the dress is cute but much better un belted.
    She has great posture.

  9. This is a lovely dress, I prefer it with the belt and I love the way the Queen has it resting just below the shoulder line. She wears this dress beautifully. I am not a fan of the hemline. Love the sling back shoes, the colour of her clutch and shoes is perfect.

The dress , pattern and color are so similar to her other outfits it is hard to tell one from the other!!!

  12. I like this dress, I don't see any issue on the naked shoulders (for me it's not a big deal), I prefer the dress with belt because it marks her waist creating a top and a bottom. Shoes and clutch are IMO perfect for this look.
The only thing that i would change is the hemline, I know that now is usual but I'm not a fan, I would prefer a normal hemline.

I have liked this dress each time she has worn it. As I recall, the tweed is very light weight. She looks beautiful in blue. I don't see anything wrong with the dress being worn off the shoulder.
