On September 17, 2020, Crown Princess Mary attended the opening of the Australian War Memorial at Churchill Park (Churchillparken) in Copenhagen. The Australian War Memorial was built for the purpose of commemorating the Australian military personnel who contributed to the liberation of Denmark during World War II as well as the fallen Australian soldiers from the First World War.

After the opening, Crown Princess Mary paid a visit to "The monument for Denmark’s international effort since 1948" at the Citadel (Kastellet) in Copenhagen. For the many Danes who have been deployed to conflict and catastrophe areas, for the currently deployed, for those who will be deployed in future and for those who fell in service, the Danish government decided in 2009 to establish this monument.

  1. Blazer structuré à col montant qui lui va à ravir avec la petite ceinture très fine. Je le verrais mieux avec une jupe crayon ou évasée ; là, il cache trop sa robe !

  2. Perfect outfit, if you have to add a jacket to a dress, this is the way to do it. Big NO to the hair, a ponytail Letizia's or Kate's style would have looked so much better.
    She has an enviable figure!!

Mary looks fantastic! Great outfit and perfectly structured look - head to toe - suitable for an event such as this. Her smile is the perfect accessory to add some levity to an otherwise mildly sombre event.

Didn't she wear this dress on a visit to Australia, or am I wrong? It's an appropriate outfit. I like her hair, I wish we could see it from the back.

I know she had it on at Arlington in Washington, DC. I think it was when her high heel got stuck in a paver. She looks wonderful, so appropriate for a memorial. Great dress rewear, love the hair. Disagree about her in a ponytail at a memorial premier, especially one which commemorates her two homelands.

LOVE the entire outfit. However, she should have worn stockings. Bare legs were not appropriate for this occasion. Hair, sensational!

  7. Fashion wise ........... PERFECTION with style for a sombre occasion.

Off topic, but if our moderator permits, may I use this rare occasion to thanks the Danes for not forgetting the Australian and New Zealand soldiers, (the Anzacs), who travelled more than 9 thousand miles to help liberate Denmark and other European countries. The death rate was high. Many families were left torn apart. Some of those who did go home lived the rest of their lives in psychiatric hospitals.
Again, my thanks to the Danish people and a 'thank you' to Australia's special Princess, Princess Mary, for her presence on this occasion.
If the moderator doesn't accept this off topic comment, I'm happy for it to be X'd out.

I like the dress, but not a fan of the belted jacket over the dress. Her hair looks beautiful in this upsweep, very elegant.

I prefer this dress so much more with the blazer. The pieces are well matched, not looking like they were just thrown together. The dress is just too 'cute' on its own. Beautiful! I love the simplicity of her hair. I completely disagree with anon 8:28. Stockings are not at all necessary. They are just not worn anymore. I understand some women want to wear them, or feel their legs need them, and some women can't accept the idea of a bare leg being the new normal. It certainly has nothing to do with appropriateness.

The memorials are not for the wars but those who lost their lives in them. Any objection to people remembering the lives lost?

It's difficult to overlook and forget about the cause when you see the horrifying results .

Wars will not cease as long as there are countries like China and Iran. Memorials are important to remember those who lost so much!!

  11. Total home run — great style. The jacket pairs wonderfully with the dress, the jewelry is just right, and Mary’s smooth chignon is beautiful and appropriate. A regal day look, nothing overdone, perfect for the occasion.

  15. As an Aussie, I am so pleased that the CP attended this opening acknowledging both the Australian and New Zealand soldiers. My most sincere thanks to the Danish people and to the Crown Princess for her attendance. CP Mary looks lovely in this ensemble, especially like the jacket. Her up do is lovely. Her choice of accessories, perfect.

  17. @Glo, why is hair worn up in a ponytail is not appropriate for a memorial? Is that a rule? Since when has a classic ponytail become inappropriate? If the hair was down, or with a half updo, it would be OK?
Do you have the same sentiment for Victoria when she wears ponytails to many events, including funerals?
    Just curious ......

Sure Sandra F- just my humble opinion/fashion observation/sense here but I do think there is a difference between a funeral and a memorial and in what capacity the person is there. For example I would never critique the fashion/hairstyle of anyone at a funeral of someone close (royal or not) since there are clearly more personal pressing things on their minds. Obviously that is a tricky dynamic for those in State Funerals, but there would be specific protocols for them to maneuver.
Since this is an official/state recognition of a new memorial from WW1 & 2 I think the tone is very often more formal/somber with most times hats being worn too. Even in photos of the Normandy Commemorations or Holocaust Memorials or other similar events this shows. I know for some funerals Princess Victoria has worn a low ponytail but not sure about her having a ponytail at a memorial commemoration, very often she has a bun. I think the ponytail would give a more casual look to my eye, especially when viewed by previous generations to whom the memorial is dedicated. My grandparents- WW2 vets- would certainly have felt it a more casual look than this lovely chignon or a bun. I think for my grandmother especially the idea of hair not being out of place or being still/tamed and thus not a distraction was important for certain events. OK my 2 cents worth over, thanks for asking me. Blessings and have a good one.

I find her figure athletic, and very healthy, and the pictures a few days ago in riding clothes only confirmed that her form is spectacular, of course, feel free to disagree

Perfection! The way Crown Princess Mary's hair is softly swept on the side framing her face is very nice and the sunshine bring out the golden highlights in her hair..... Her choice of clothing always perfect for the various events she attends.....It is obvious why the Queen and the Crown Prince are so proud of her.....Fitzhugh

@Glo, you sure like to “ hear” yourself, however none of it makes any fashion sense. There is nothing remotely inappropriate about hair styled in a ponytail high or low. Obviously not your preference. Others would say (not me because I hate flesh colored panty hose)
That the lack of stocking is way more inappropriate for this type of acts than wearing a ponytail... and actually I could see their point.....

You know MM, Sandra F. very kindly asked me and I tried to answer her, yes a bit long-winded, but it was my respectful and well-intentioned answer. This is after all a fashion blog for people to discuss these things. Someone can just as easily say there are several examples of royal ladies in pony tails at memorial commemorations and I might have felt differently however your answer doesn’t sway or interest me (and I suspect many others) in the least.
      Have a nice day

Well, Glo, if my answer doesn't interest you, why are talking to me?
I for one enjoy reading different views on fashion and even trying to understand why some people would consider certain things inappropriate, if only to figure out whether these codes are because of age difference, cultural traditions or even demographics, however your disertation didn't make much sense to me, fashionably speaking.
You too have a blessed day!!
