Queen Margrethe's Official Portraits Have Been Released

On the occasion of Queen Margrethe's 80th birthday, which will be celebrated on April 16, the Royal House has released a series of official portraits from the Queen's photo album. The photos include photographer Rigmor Mydtskov's portraits of the Queen: from the ascension to the throne in 1972 to the 60th birthday in 2000. Mydtskov (1925 - 2010) was a Danish court photographer. The person in charge of immortalizing these portraits to display them today is photographer Per Morten Abrahamsen.

The Queen has cancelled all of the Royal Danish House’s planned activities and events in connection with the upcoming 80th birthday in April. On April 14, a congratulations register was set up on the Royal Danish House’s website www.kongehuset.dk, where it is possible to send personal good wishes to the Queen.

    2. Yes, the resemblance between Isabella and her grandmother is indeed very striking here.

  5. I really appreciate these portrait series. Too long to comment them individually, there is just one which I don't like, n° 8 if correct, the one with the yellow and fur suit. Many thanks for publishing them.

    2. I guess I apply today criteria to an outfit of the 50s or 60s. I cannot adapt to that sort of travelling in time. As I can see opinions are in black or white on that outfit...

    Such beautiful photos.
Knowing something about her from her public activities, I have nothing but admiration for this talented, eloquent, artistic and accomplished monarch. Happy 80th Birthday Queen Margarethe.

Beautiful woman with a flair for the most flattering colors and a spectacular sense of style. All of the gowns are wonderful, but my favorite it the yellow gown with the fur trim.

  9. Superbes tous ses portraits ; j’ai remarqué qu’elle a su accorder ses boucles d’oreilles à sa broche ‘marguerite’ !

And where are the portraits after 2000? Twenty years have passed since, and Margrethe has changed and aged like everyone else! There are wonderful portraits of her e.g. by Victoria Russell and Thomas Kluge. Such vanity and pretense. - Ellie

  11. Those brocade gowns with fur trim look like they'd fallen out of time and could easily show a Russian Tsarina/Empress, should we not know exactly that it was Margrethe.

Lovely set of photos of Margrethe down through the years. She does seem to love the regal profile poses. Shame there was not one photo of her with her father. ~Laurel~

  22. What great photos. Those of us who have only really followed European royalty in recent years forget how lovely she was as a young woman and Prince Henrik was gorgeous. Isabella certainly bears a strong resemblance to her grandmother but I also think that the Queen looks very like a young Queen Victoria in that first image (may be the hairstyle!) Happy birthday, Your Majesty
