New portraits series was published on the occasion of Queen Margrethe’s 80th birthday

Queen Margrethe turns 80 years old on 16 April 2020. In connection with the birthday, the Royal Danish House published a series of new portraits by photographer Per Morten Abrahamsen. The portraits were taken in the autumn and winter of 2019 in Christian IX’s Palace at Amalienborg and at Fredensborg Palace. The series contains both generational portraits of The Queen together with Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Christian as well as individual portraits of The Queen.

  3. Königin Margarethe sieht so gut aus. Als wenn sie in einen Jungbrunnen gefallen wäre. Phantastisch!

  4. Beautiful pictures. The queen looks very lovely... and what great detail in the second picture - I see four generations represented.

  5. De belles photos avec sa descendance ; j'aime beaucoup sa broche marguerite qui ressort bien sur cette couleur violet-foncé !

  6. I bet Prince Christian is gonna charm a lot of young ladies in the future:)

Not sure how I feel about those earrings the Queen is wearing. That one earring on the last photo almost look like an extension from her cheekbone... The daisy brooch is lovely though!

    2. But it is a fashion blog though. I never wrote that it was an ugly picture - that’s just words your putting into my mouth and I dislike that.
      All photos are lovely :)

    3. you're, sorry.

    4. The earring is not hanging perfectly. That is a very petty observation. It is also real life. What makes these these photos so nice is that they are not stuffy, like the BRF would have done. There is physical contact. Margrethe shows warmth. She also shows us that she is just like the rest of us--that minor imperfection with her earring makes her human and relatable.

I'm Scandinavian as well, so I totally get your point. but I never said that I disliked the photos. Now stop making it seem like I did. Pointing out a bad earring is not the same as hating on the pictures.

    6. Maybe its the angle of her head or the camera and the earrings are not even hanging wrong at all. By the shape of them it looks pretty hard to hang them wrong....Who knows!!!

    7. However, I did dislike how the earring hung. I was a perfectionist even as a young child. I remember rewriting letters, words and sentences at elementary school whenever I thought something wasn't pretty enough, but hey, that's me and that's my problem, but it doesn't make me petty. We can't possibly know what other people are like based on a comment section and everyone has their reasons for noticing different things. In my first comment I even wrote something positive to weigh up for that one minor little criticism because I didn't want to be a rude person.

  8. Wonderful photos. I like that they included the next two heirs. Christian sure looks grown.
On a fashion note, I think that Christian´s suit looks much better than Fredrik´s. His just doesn´t sit right.

  9. A very elegant lady. A young 80 year old. Happy birthday your Majesty. But dear Prince Frederik, I've said it before, please get in touch with your cousin Prince Daniel for the name and address of his tailor. Or maybe you just don't like wearing a suit. Maybe you feel more comfortable in sporting clothes. Prince Christian is going to break many a young girl's heart.

  10. These are nice but I think I would prefer them without the heavy photoshop element. I think just the "natural" images would have been fine.

  11. These photos are just lovely. All three of them are looking great, but the nicest surprise is Prince Christian who is quickly transforming into a dapper young adult.
Queen Margarethe has many reasons to be proud of all her family.

    2. Absolutely not! We like our royals as they are: completely down to earth. You can keep your conservative old fashion manners to yourselves;-) They all looks amazing

    3. Old fashioned maybe, but hands in the pockets is a no-no for a well brought up young man. Especially when he is in the company of a lady.
One of the first rules taught to a new student in a good English boys' school. Maybe it's not the same rule in Danish boys' schools.

    4. Their hands in the pockets-photo was obviously good enough for the Queen, so it should be good enough for you as well. I love the casual, Scandinavian feel to it.

    5. These are not formal portraits. And what do you all of you have to say about Prince Charles who has his hands in his jacket pockets quite frequently? He has done this since he was a young man. I am quite certain he went to "good English boys' school[s]", and I know he was "a well brought up young man".

      Delete
    6. Putting your hand in your pocket or your jacket is a ancient tradition practiced by the royals and aristocrats way before emperor Napoleon. FYI!

    7. I have never seen Prince Charles with his hands in his PANTS pocket/s. Yes, he often puts them in his jacket or coat pocket/s. It is two different things. The other golden rule for young men in upper class schools is that - when a lady walks into a room you stand up. Old fashioned perhaps but respect for a lady in a public place was/is a priority. Today ??????

    8. First of all I think he looks quite dapper and he is not in a public place or a public event he is in his Grandmothers home. It would be just awful to think you had to be so proper and show no warmth or affection towards your Grandmother especially since this is the 21 Century. Do you insist on people calling you Madame Deadeggs!!!

    9. Deadeggs, Charles most certainly has been photographed with his hand in his pant pocket. Just search the internet. Here are but a few below:

    10. Dear Anonymous 4/17/20, 1:26 PM Thank you for the research. Nice photos of Prince Charles. Can you note though,
Photo N°1 : Prince Charles is with his buddies and the rule doesn’t apply.
It’s when a boy or man is in the presence of a woman. No woman in site in this photo.
In photos N°2 and N°3 he’s got one hand tucked into his trouser pocket giving a bit of a “Napoleon” look.
Prince Christian has got both hands deep in his pockets.
Our fellow blogger “Ellie” made and interesting point when she wrote earlier on this subject, “Funny that if you are poor and wear a suit with hands in your pockets, it's bad manners, but if you are rich it's a relaxed style. Go figure. - Ellie “

  15. three generations - wonderful pics.
Christian looks soooo grown up in this first picture.
In the other pics he looks more like the teen that he is.

I'm sorry for Margarethe that she couldn't celebrate her birthday with a big party in these days.
Hope she will do this when things normalize in *hopefully* some months.

  16. The queen looks really fabulous in this dress, length, shape, colour - everything is just perfect.
I like that she wears this daisy-brooch, as we know, her nickname is Daisy and as I remember it's said, her husband called her Daisy.

So his spirit is here with them together on this pic!

    1. If I remember it correctly, the brooch originally comes from her maternal grandmother Margaret (born Connaught) who also was called Daisy.

  17. I think the queen looks great, and although I agree that Christian looks very promising, I don't like the pictures. In the first one they sem too far apart and it seems as if the queen is trying to get them to get closer, in the second one I like the hands on the grandmother shoulder, but Frederick looks distant again and in the third one it seems too closed as if taken in a small lift, maybe someone else is more eloquent in discribing what I see, but it seems to me a huge contrast with the previous post with portraits of the queen and these three pictures

  18. Wishing her a happy birthday. My mum is eighty this year too and very sad her big party with all her dear friends is not on. I feel sure her majesty is disappointed too. She looks wonderful, purple is her colour. Christian looks very grown up in his suit and I resembles Princess Mary's dad quite abit.

    1. Yes, I also see a resemblence with Princess Mary's dad also. A Scottish look ... no?

  19. The second photo is genuinely weird; the body proportions are way off. - Funny that if you are poor and wear a suit with hands in your pockets, it's bad manners, but if you are rich it's a relaxed style. Go figure. - Ellie
