Beautiful, personal dress. Hairstyle goes perfectly with it. - Siri

I adore Mary in this dress! She glows and she wears the design so well.

  4. Someone is sure to say this looks like a bathrobe but Mary can pull it off. Beautiful color on her!

Lovely Asian inspired dress. Hair looks great.

To me it looks like a morning suit...

  7. I love this; wearing it without the black belt creates a much more elegant look than on the previous occasion, imo. A kimono-inspired garment may inevitably have a hint of a costume or dressing gown vibe about it, but I think the close fit, pared-down silhouette, and mid-calf length of this dress prevent that from being a problem.

Agree with Siri that Mary's updo is beautiful with this dress.

From Asia. I feel very uncomfortable with a kimono-inspired dress. It looks very strange in our eyes.

    1. Excuse me, but yours is a very strange comment. Should Europeans feel very uncomfortable when we see asian men in a tuxedo or playing tennis and see asian ladies in high-heeled shoes and pantsuits? What would you think if an American said that it looks very strange to his or her eyes to see asian men and women wearing jeans and hoodies? Cultural globalization is here to stay.

I could not agree more, Sakurahime! These ‘cultural appropriation’ complaints are ridiculous......

      Agree with both Anons.
REAL kimono looks good on ANY woman in the world !
But this inspired dress is obviously for western women not for those in kimono country ,I think.

  9. Irgendwie fehlt Mary bei manchen Anlässen in letzter Zeit die Eleganz von früher !!

  10. Mary looks fabulous as always. Is it my imagination or does she work ten times harder than her husband? She is at so many events without him. Do I have this right?

    1. Hmm, never thought about it, but yes, she does seem to have a great many solo engagements. I wonder if maybe Frederik does too, but they don't receive attention on fashion blogs? :-D

    2. @Jane Chantal: That's it! @Annon 2:15am: If you like to follow and see more of Frederic follow the official webside of the Royal House of Denmark.

Yes! I have often thought so. Her husband is handsome and charming, it would be nice to see more of him! Also he is the heir, not Mary. She is working so much harder - or at least it seems so - and all we hear about him is some soort activity.

  11. This is a no from me. I love the colour and the fabric but once you add in the crossover style it is exactly like my dressing gown. Is it was a plain shift dress, it would be amazing.

    1. Exactly, Annie. It´s not a bad fabric, or colour, or design. But if you have: colourful design + midi-length + uneven hem + wrap dress style + tied ribbon belt + flared sleeves, there´s little to distinguish it from a morning robe.
I too would love to see the fabric made into a simple knee-length A-line dress, even keeping the sleeves.

  14. Yes I agree with the positive comments. How rude when she always looks lovely and elegant and works so hard but some are always criticizing.
