Danish Queen Margrethe visited Møllerup Estate in Aarhus

Yesterday, Queen Margrethe visited Møllerup Estate in Aarhus where her close friend Lena von Lüttichau hosts an outdoor ballet performance each year. On the stage, Danish and international ballet dancers, opera singers and musicians performed with pieces from both the classic and modern repertoire. The World Ballet 2019 at Mollerup Estate hosted a number of the world's leading ballet dancers from The Royal Ballet of London, The Mariinsky Ballet of St. Petersburg and Staatsballett Berlin and also presented opera and classical music with Danish singers and musicians.

I think this ensemble suits her artistic sensibilities. The colors are magnificent, the earrings are dramatic, and she looks ecstatic to be there.

  4. What an absolutely lovely occasion. And we all know that Queen Margrethe is going to take a little walk on the wild side now and then (the poppy tiara and these earrings being two examples), but after the series of beautiful, on-point outfits she's treated everyone to lately, she totally deserves a bit of fun :-).

    2. Jane Chantal I have an interesting information for you about the "wild" poppy tiara. The idea was first realized and first appeared on HM's ancestor, Empress Josephine in 1808. She chose the delicate golden flowers for her portrait.

    3. Liza, that is fascinating -- thank you. I have never doubted the fine quality of the piece's workmanship; however the tiara I was referencing was, I believe, commissioned by Queen Margrethe herself in 1976. There are many photos online of her wearing it (those who are curious can google "Margrethe Golden Poppies Tiara"). It may well be one of those things that people either love, or...not :-).

    4. Jane Chantal, of course! You are absolutely right! My apology. I wrote it incorrectly. I meant to say that the same idea was done by HM's ancestor. I found it fascinating. I tried to post the link to the portrait but couldn't accomplish that. It's from the site Noblesse et Royauté. I agree about the different tastes. I do feel, that it is a very unusual piece, the feel is very theatrical. The tiara from 1808 is somewhat smaller , partly on a golden bandeau and partly worked into the Empress's hair. Lovely.

  11. That is HER! Great colors, she looks relaxed and happy! So happy to have seen these photos. I miss Denmark and my royals, being in California, but born a few months before Margrete in Copenhagen. Were "sister" like.
