  1. Overall she looks very well coordinated, but the dress is way too short for this appearance.
Look how it rides up when she is seated exposing too much of her thighs for a highly photographed, official appearance. Glad to see her in a less expensive dress to counter somewhat anyway the criticism she has received for the high price of her wardrobe. And congratulations to Meghan on being named Vice President of the Queen's Commonwealth Trust -- further recognition by the Queen of her abilities.

  2. What a horrible way to sit. Isn't she trained to sit properly as a royal. Don't forget yoyrself, Meghan!

  3. Messy hair, dress too short. I guess no one has emphasized to her she is suppose to look regal because she represents the Queen. SMH

  4. Upper half is quite nice.
Why does she insist on wearing non-maternity clothes? They are simply too tight for this stage of pregnancy. The dress is far too short obviously.

    1. Agree! I thought I was the only one to notice that. She has been wearing non-maternity clothes during her pregnancy. She has spent lots of money on beautiful clothes and accessories. Why can't she spend money on maternity clothes. It is really weird.

      Delete
    2. I agree and don't understand why, because modern maternity dresses are far more fitted than those you could buy 40 years ago, f.i.

Each individual pieces are nice but the dress isn’t the best when sitting. Almost veering into inappropriate category.

    1. Yes, I had to look twice before I believed my eyes. I was like: O no, this is too much! Can't believe that no one of her staff, stylists or whatever, did not see this during fitting. Or is that not how is works? Fitting sessions or something like that, to make an appropriate appearance?

  6. Oh, I like this outfit. Not necessarily the ideal choice for a panel discussion on stage, but still very fresh. Her hair looks nice too, and the accessories are well-chosen.

Overall this is not a good look in my opinion. The dress is too short and I will never be a fan of the untidy hair.

  9. El vestido es bonito pero a la duquesa no tomó en consideración que al sentarse mostraría más de lo que debía. De los errores se aprende.

  10. Women´s rights matter, best course. Today the messy bun is perfection and so the length of the dress. "A feminist is a person who believes in thre power of women, just as much they believe in the power of everybody else." (Zendaya)

    1. Well said, Sonnenkringel, I totally agree with you. I'm sure Meghan knew very well what some people woul'd think of her way to sit and of her dress. Well done Meghan, you really have courage.

    2. I'm with you on this. I'm impressed that she is using her position to advocate for important issues.

    3. So agree sonnenkringel~

    4. Zucchina, this is not "courage", just a wrong chosen dress.(Nothing against this young, beautiful woman.) But to this page ("Royals... and Hollywood Fashion"...) it simply means: bad taste, no sense of style, while on other occasions spending thousands of pounds for outfits... I'd love to tell you something about real women's "courage". I was growing up behind the Iron curtain in a communist country under dictatorship. I am a Granny now. I know what I am talking about.

  11. It's a good jacket, good dress and good shoes but on the whole it's her worst ever appearance. I can't believe she made such a mistake.

    ReplyDelete
  12. @sonnenkringel, I agree. I think the DoD looked appropriate and great. To give some perspective, I can name several instances where the DoC wore just as abbreviated hemlines as well during her pregnancies. Namely, her Asos polka dot dress, the yellow print Emilia Wickstead coat, and the orange Tara Jarmon ensemble.

Both women, on International Women's Day no less, regardless of the length of their hemlines, deserve respect. A women's value and shouldn't be tied to her appearance.

    1. Excellent points, Anna. I thought of the polka dot dress immediately when I saw this dress.

    3. Yes, Kate has worn dresses and skirts who were too short as well. But, for so far as I know, she was not sitting with crossed legs on those engagements, and so, not showing so much of her legs/ thighs. And I think that makes a difference in how you look and appear.

  13. I firstly really liked the upper part... till I saw the rest of the pictures. Yes, she looks healthy and fresh, but the dress is way too short, particularly when she sits.
Her hair is nice though, and her attitude as well.

    1. Ana, you are right on, I still remember the comments on the polka dot dress when she went to Warner Bros.
And the yellow on the garden party, and the peach one while pregnant with George... were the ladies just as outraged?

    2. I get what you are asking Cherry and this is one of the problems in regards to Meghan. Kate can do the same thing but no questions and/or no comments made! I have a strong answer but choose not to say here!

      Delete
    3. Well, I agree about the mentioned dresses/ skirts Kate wore, and yes, they were too short as well. For so far as I know, there are no pictures of her sitting with crossed legs and I think that makes a difference. I was not on a fashion blog those times, and if I was, I really would've mevtioned it.
I am definitely not against Meghan or whatsoever, she has made a lot of good and 'safe' choices in clothing as well. I really like her!

      Delete
    4. Actually, I remember Kate getting quite a bit of comment re the shortness of her hemlines in her first pregnancy. Her skirts were noticeably longer the next two times.

Saddens me to see on National Women's Day of all days - still royal women are judged first and foremost on what they are wearing and how the choose to sit. Still so far for women to come.

    2. I don't think a link should be made between the NWDay and Meghan's outfit. For her it is a question of thinking whether her outfit is adapted to the circumstances. And all know that a very short skirt we should pay attention how to sit. I suppose this is one of the reasons why pants are now so popular. If men were wearing short skirts they would face the same comments.

    5. True professional women - and men - dress in such a way that it is about what they are saying or doing, not about their clothes. There are a number of royal women here; Letizia, Sophie, Mary, Rania, Victoria, Mathilde, the Queen, and usually Kate who dress for their important role. Unlike many professions what royals wear - men and women - has always been scrutinised and at times has influenced fashion. But the wise royal who wants their message heard will make certain their clothes don't become too much a focus. To suggest otherwise fails to give credit to the majority of royals and professional women who dress appropriately. The dress of royal men is also judged although their options - and for that reason interest - are more limited.

I'm pleased to see Meghan wear a reasonably priced dress by a high street brand - a message that has been going out in even in royalist magazines seems finally to have been heard. But the length is unprofessional and deserves the criticism it is receiving. She looks very well in longer lengths and could do better.

Kate's short skirts during her first two pregnancies were amongst her least flattering and nothing to emulate.

I agree. A professional appearance is so important. It keeps the focus on the topic rather than the fashion.

    7. Dear Pine and other colleagues, please do not abuse of the argument "fashion site". Look at what the info part of the site says:

      The owner of this blog reserves the right to edit or delete any comments submitted to this blog without notice due to;
      1. Comments deemed to be spam or questionable spam
      2. Comments including profanity
      3. Comments containing language or concepts that could be deemed offensive
      4. Comments that attack a person individually
I think this is far less restrictive than what some colleagues are claiming. I think that the event and surrounding details can be taken into consideration and mentioned.
Elegance is not only about the choice of an outfit, but also its appropriateness, and attitude of the owner. The nicest dress can be a disaster in some circumstances.

I stand by my comments and, obviously, so does the moderator. Had she found my or others comments objectionable, she would have removed them, as she has done in the past with some posts. I, and many other posters, get very tired of visitors implicitly criticizing and patronizing fashion comments on this blog and injecting their own political views into this site. That is offensive.

  16. I am on the fence on this one, I like every single piece, but I agree that it would look so much better had the dress been longer, and not because she is pregnant, but because that lengt only looks good with booties, boots or opaque thighs, and for a more casual look. I am surprised that she doesn't realize that if she appears on a photo showing more leg than what we generally expect on a work meeting, she is going to be crucified, it doesn't bother me personally as I am not a on the judgmental side, but people are already running for the fainting salts...
On another subject, it looks like her face has rounded a bit, and she has a very pretty and sweet look.

    1. I agree about her face and was wondering if I would be the only one who saw it ;-) I think it suits her, it is softer en sweeter indeed. Very pretty!
Reminds me of Kate's pregnancies, her face gets rounder en fuller too, and it becomes both of them.

    2. Cherry Blossom, you have made the points I was going to make. Worn exactly as is, sure, she ends up showing too much leg while sitting. The length as it is is perfect styled with tights and booties or boots. I love the dress, and hope we will see it again.

I also immediately noticed her face and thought she looked puffy, but still beautiful. In the video footage of this event, she clearly mentions that it's getting a little difficult now at this late stage of pregnancy. She also looks uncomfortable sitting down. However her eloquence, diction and confidence is unfailing. Good for her!

O la la, a little bit too short for crossing knees. But all in all a stylish and young look and I like it. Hairdo is typical Meghan and her smile as always lovely.

    ReplyDelete
  19. How she chose to sit is not the issue; it's that her skirt did not sufficiently cover her thighs. Modesty is not gender specific. She otherwise looked fabulous.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Love this whole look. However, the dress is lovely but ridiculously short--nothing to do with her being a Duchess or pregnant (did anyone notice she was pregnant???)--just for anyone sitting having their photo taken. Photos 3 and 4 are awful. I'm not a fan of the messy hair but I think it looks okay today and her make up is nice. As to the comment from Anon 9.22--the point of this blog, as I understand it, is primarily to comment on what is worn. I can just see the tabloid headlines tomorrow......

    1. Agree. Imo choosing this short dress was a rather qrotesque error in judgment. It is reasonable to think that someone who has sat for photographs for as many years as the DoS has, knew precisely what she was doing.

  21. This is a rare miss for Meghan. Outfit is fresh and sharp in a standing position but, for sitting, the skirt is just too short. Reminds me of the very short skirt Catherine wore with her blue suit on her one solo appearance with Queen Elizabeth. Looked good standing; very unfortunate when she sat down in front of a crowd.

Meghan looks very good, only the dress is too short for my taste.

  23. No woman in her position should be so completely clueless as to how she is sitting . It’s not about being critical , it’s about having class. Oh so important to be aware of how you are presenting yourself , especially in such a position of power Meghan is

    ReplyDelete
  24. @PB Coleman: I can think of more than one occasion where Kate wore dresses too short (pregnant and not pregnant), and her hair was less than perfect, not so glossy and shaped, her constantly running her hands through to keep it off her face. Kate made a few fashion faux pas at the start as she was finding her footing as a duchess. Cut Meghan some slack. It’s been less than a year for her being a royal. She is learning and I think she’s progressing wonderfully.

  25. I think the length of the dress is fine but you should also know how to sit properly with it.

Dress and blazer are nice by them self's.I think the pattern overwhelms her she is not very tall. This is not a dress the length I mean to cross ones leggs. To each it's own.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I think she looks very good. I like the dress and think the length is just fine but agree that if wearing that length you need to ve careful how you sit. Nonetheless, a flash of thigh really really isn't worth some of the handwringing going on here.

Dresses aren't too short. Women can wear what they want and I think it's idiotic that people keep telling women that. Society again dictating that someone's dress or skirt is too short. Who's the length police? Royal or not they can and should be able wear what they want. Why is short a bad thing? It's not. It's our male dominated society who said something is too short or too tight and women should be more covered up. Women stop judging other women.
