After leaving the airport, the Duke and Duchess attended the traditional welcoming ceremony on the lawns of Government House – the residence of the Governor-General to New Zealand Dame Patsy Reddy. The Duke and Duchess were invited to hongi with the Governor-General’s Kuia and Kaumātua (Māori elders), before the pōwhiri, which included a haka performed by members of the New Zealand Defence Force.

The Duke and Duchess then visited the Pukeahu National War Memorial Park. There, they laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior, and visited the newly unveiled UK War Memorial – whose design takes the form of two of the United Kingdom and New Zealand’s most iconic trees – the Royal Oak and a Pōhutakawa. Afterwards, the Duke and Duchess took a walk in the Memorial Park.

  2. Cute dress, like the check trench and that memorial sculpture is wonderful.

  3. The coat is not at all flattering even when fastened. In contrast, the Governor General's outfit is lovely--both colour and style. In the posed photo with Dame Patsy and her husband, it looks as if Meghan has thrown an old mac over her dress. If it was too cold for the dress on its own, perhaps a jacket? The men are in suits with medals and The Governor general has her chain of office so it is meant to be formal.

    1. My thoughts exactly, just in that picture she looks out of place. Otherwise she looks lovely

    3. Really? This is a tribal dance on the lawn!!! then, they are meeting and greeting the common folk positioned behind the barricades, and she is supposed to wear a " formal dress", I mean are you people kidding? I am not crazy about the way she is wearing the coat and I would have preferred more casual shoes, but she is dressed super appropriate for this event held " during" the day. Funny how people make up protocol according to their views......

  5. I do like this coat quite a bit, however it looks like it was fastened too tight and it gave the appearance of being wrinkled, and odd, so much better on the photo where it's open. The GG suit has a good cut, but the material is horrendous, maybe if used only as a jacket or skirt and combined with a solid it could be passable, I do love her very stylish no-nonsense haircut.
Annie I disagree that this was a " formal" event, this was a welcoming ceremony, these type of events do not require formal attire, and the men wearing their medals don't make it so. The other day Meghan was considered overdressed for wearing a cocktail dress to a formal event, and today underdressed while wearing a perfectly apprpriate outfit for the time and occassion, SMH.

    1. I agree that the coat has maybe just been too tightly fastened as it looks better in some photos now that I look at them again.
Personally, I never thought the cocktail dress was too formal. I thought it was gorgeous and still think it's the stand out dress of the tour along with the incredible blue cape dress in Fiji. They are certainly the ones I will remember---(like Kate's blue gown in India or the beautiful pale blue and lace dress she wore in Malaysia)

    2. It was appropriate just looked a little out of place. Everyone else was wearing business professional clothing and she was wearing a good dress, but the coat being outerwear looked odd indoors. It's a nice coat though and looks great during the outdoor events, but maybe a jacket for the indoor events would have looked even better.

  6. Meghan's dress is really cute, and her first maternity wear, I believe. I love the coat. It elevates the simple dress. Her earrings are the perfect touch to finish off the look.

  7. IMHO, the dress is too short, the coat is too long, and all those flaps and that huge collar overwhelm her smallness.
If the lengths could meet in the middle and maybe if she only wore the coat open, it would have looked much more put-together.

  8. On some pics, the coat looks ok, but in many pics it looks missfitting and 'cheap'

  9. I think her outfit was nice, but not for this day. She could have chosen a more formal dress or coat, she's a bit underdressed.
