  1. Fun little retro outfit, although I cannot help but feel that any of her t-shirt-like tops are a tad too informal for a queen on official duty.

Maybe this is what modern queens will look like in the future. As their jobs and patronages get more complex, and increasingly focused at younger audiences and modern youth issues, perhaps this is how they see themselves being accessible to their audiences, especially with groups or populations who don't want monarchies any more. We shall see what Mary and Catherine and even perhaps Victoria will do when their time comes. They all seem to favour some casual elements. MM loves and looks best in casual but I don't think she'd go for the T-shirt look on duty. I don't care much for this outfit, but down playing it sometimes isn't a bad thing. It's very modern corporate and she can get away with it.

Anon @ 7:00. I also agree with you. Letizia is in a unique position in terms of fashion, at the mid point between the outgoing consort and the beginning official duties of the heiress in the near future. She has to be true to her style without being too avant garde and avoid the staid fashions of the old guard which will certainly not apply when the heiress begins her duties. To put today's outfit in context, one needs to see the pictures which were taken with a group of children wearing in brightly colored ethnic prints. Among the adults dressed in work clothes the outfit looks 'off'. Among the children, it gives the impression that she does her homework before these events. This is the audience that will matter in the future.

In this case, jewels, carriages and someone holding the the extended hem of the dress will not work. It is obvious that it is a normal work day for the adults. She decided to identify with the young performers because they are the ones who will matter in the future. Read the CIS surveys. Royalty is mostly PR.

      Yes, what was she thinking?

    2. I disagree, I think this outfit would look ridiculous on many women - but not on Letizia. On her it looks modern and good.

    3. She's usually so smart and this is awful. The top with plain trousers or skirt, as in the Hugo Boss ad would be fine, if on the casual side. The skirt with a plain orange or blue top would be okay. No matter if it's a stylist's choice, does she not look in the mirror and think "no!"

There's a way to mix prints, patterns, colors and still look stylish.
    This isn't it.

    1. I agree -- this looks odd, like two quite different dresses spliced together.

Oh boy the top today hurts my eyes, the skirt is nothing special either. I do like her smile.Letizia is entitled to make one wardrobe mistake a week I think.

If you have followed her, you will have noticed by now that HB forms a greater part of her daytime work wardrobe. However, Spanish fashion is given the same harsh treatment as HB. Six of one, half a dozen of the other. No difference..or desire to compliment the industry if she wears it.

  9. Love this retro style, the colors are fantastic, I specially love the A line and the length of the skirt. I have seen the pictures of the queen surrounded by the children in very colorful garments, and it looks just delightful, she obviously does her homework.

  10. The colours matches…… but that doesn't the style! Too many 'mistakes' from Letizia lately, IMO.
