Harry and Meghan attended an event in CHOGM2018 week

On April 18, 2017, Britain's Prince Harry and his fiancee Meghan Markle attended a reception with delegates from the Commonwealth Youth Forum at Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in central London. On the third day of CHOGM2018, Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle met with young delegates at the Commonwealth Youth Forum.

  1. Surprisingly it's pretty warm in London today. So I totally unterstand that she won't wear tights or a jacket today.
I think Meghans outfit would be ok for a more modern, more casual monarchy (like the Netherlands?). But in the UK?
The coulours suits her very well.

I fully agree with mail of Katharina, time for a change of style also in the UK? We can by now already anticipate how different Meghan is, compared with Duchess Catherine.

    2. I dont think Queen Maxima of the Netherlands could be this casual 🙈

    3. I think you're right winnie. And I don't wanna say that dutch royals looking too casual.
But Meghan is going to become the wife of a prince, not Queen. So perheps we shouldn't make an comparison between Maxima and Meghan. But maybe with other princesses. But please, I don't wanna say that the dutch royals are too casual. I like them very much.
My Idea was, that Meghan had planned to wear this dress and blazer appropriately, but "unfortunately" it had become an occasion on a very sunny day. Perheps.
But I really can't imagine why she wears her blazer like this.

  2. Is the weather in London very warm today? Sleeveless dress?

    1. yes its very warm today, summer like weather so sleeveless dress was appropriate. However, the dress has too much extra straps at the back and belt at the front 🙈🙈. The shoes are great for her legs though.

      Delete
    2. >>The shoes are great for her legs though.<< I don't think that at all. Quite the contrary. Meghan has slim calves and slim almost bony feet. These high heeled pointed shoes do nothing for her. They increase her features on the wrong side. From what I have seen on photos and videos she can't walk good on these high heels. And what is even worse, mostly her shoes don't fit, they are too large, think of the shoes she wore on her engagement. Looked terrible uncormfortable. She should stay away from these high heeled pointed shoes or leave them to evening events. This style is somewhat outdated anyway and we have seen enough of pointed pumps with Catherine for a lifetime ;-)))

The dress would also have needed another style of shoes, some medium high white summery sandals with a block heel would have looked much better. The whole styling of that dress is wrong in my opinion. And so is the dress for that occasion.

Once again, MM is dressed inappropriately. The blazer on the shoulders is all wrong. First of all, why is she trying to emulate a Kardashian? Secondly, it doesn’t work with a short, structured blazer—it looks like it is going to pop off her shoulders any second. And a strappy dress to an official work event?! Had she worn the blazer like a normal person, she would have looked great. But alas, she still has that tacky, Hollywood style.

  12. Meghan has a lot of learn. (And she has close access to the BEST teacher -- Kate.) Her dress looks like a sundress. Totally inappropriate for a formal "Royal" appearance at a Commonwealth event. If she wore the jacket as it is meant to be worn with her arms in its sleeves that would be okay. A jacket with short sleeves would be okay for warm weather. But too much skin exposed for an appearance such as this. After all, she is a representative of Royalty at a Commonwealth event. And those heels are just too high. She looks like she is teetering on skyscrapers.

One can see that she still tries to find the right way, but soon enough she will has to make compromises with her wardrobe, I am sure.

  19. I don't see anything inappropriate about this dress for a warm day meeting young people.

That said, I don't like it - I think it's unattractive. But at least she's prepared to take a few risks and experiment and have fun with her clothes.

  20. Horrible outfit for the occasion. Draping the jacket over her shoulders doesn't work at all. This dress looks like something a woman would wear at a resort at the beach. I hate the way she also wears her purse with the strap across her body. Does she think someone is going to snatch her purse? If you watch the videos you will notice she charges ahead of Prince Harry to shake people's hands first. Is that against royal protocol? She practically knocked poor silly Harry down one time as he also was going to shake the hand of a greeter, but she managed to barge in ahead of Harry. This marriage should be lots of fun to watch as Harry plays second fiddle to Ms. Markle. So far I have not been impressed with the vast majority of her outfits. Interesting to see if she changes her fashion after the wedding or is this her style and we had better get used to it.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You are dead wrong about her barging ahead of Harry. The video is all over where he pointed for her to go ahead. He put his arm out. She had stopped and he had het go first so she moved quickly as they were boxed in .....she did not barge ahead. He always guides her. Others have commentes on other sites about this and it has been shown from another angle. Didn't happen.

      Delete
    2. Nonsense Karen. She did not barge ahead. Harry, being the gentleman, guided her to going first. British protocol is very stifling, so it is good to see a loosening up of practices. I just think that Meghan needs some advice on clothing I.e. less Hollywood and more British.

    3. Wow!! It looks like the campaign against this woman has started SMH!! some people can't wait to find fault, where there is none. It would be very rather mature to make "informed" comments, rather than looking for excuses to throw shade. This dress is very chic, maybe a little casual, but I applaud her independence, she also has an innate elegance and kind expression, that makes her very real.
      Love the shoes.

      Delete
  21. It appears she still thinks she is in Hollywood and any event people only are there to see her. Dress style is not appropriate for a royal and one hopes she will learn that she must act with royal protocol. She is marrying into this circle now and it comes with the territory. Each event she is attending, one shudders at the videos and photos. Square peg trying to fit a round hole.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Love the shoes but they aren't enough to resolver the failure of the childish and ugly dress.

  23. She looks very glamorous, but not suitable for occasions such as these. Britain is not Hollywood, and many young people in the Commonwealth do live in poverty. She needs to be more under-stated if she is to be an ambassador for Commomwealth youth.

  26. Wow so much hate in here. I am really shocked at the comments and it is not the first time I have been shocked at the comments regarding Meghan. Call me crazy but I believe the wrath is not really about her clothes or her hair. Deeper nasty profiling in my humble opinion.

I think everyone should get used to seeing Meghan dress as MEGHAN. She is 36, educated, well travelled, very sophisticated and could probably talk circles around most of us. She is going to be her OWN PERSON. This is very clear. Given the fact that she has been out in front like no other fiance before IS TELLING. The Queen respects her and that is clear by allowing her to be present at family events and all these pre-engagements that are actual WORKING AWAY DAYS. She is not Catherine. She is not some blue blooded aristrocrat. She is a grown up woman.

I like her style. While this event was a Commonwealth event it was for YOUNG PEOPLE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY! There is no reason for her to be any dressier than she was here. She and Harry are going to do their thing!! Their way and I would say with the blessings of the Queen. Harry was just appointed as a head. These two are just what is needed in the arena they will work. They are not up to take the throne. This allows them to approach things in a more natural liberated less stuffy manner! Hurrah for that!

I am pretty sure when she attends tiara events such as State dinners she will be dressed to perfection. She has shown already that she is committed to the Queen and country. She is not going to do anythimg to bring shame or embarassment to the family.

I like the dress! She is not showing anything more than others have. Maxima has appeared with a jacket on her shoulders! So what? Petty issues.

Let them be happy and stop ripping her apart and deflecting what you really dislike about her by using her clothes as an avenue. The actress thing grows weary. As does the other nasty items.

Get used to it naysayers! We are about to have an American biracial Duchess in the BRF and I say hallelujah!!! 2018!
Take some time to listen to some of her interviews. She is amazingingly sharp!

I think Elizabeth II is loving it!!

    4. Diane Brown ~ Thank you. Thank you. THANK YOU.

I too have tried to ignore what is clearly something more than just a mere disagreement by a few about Ms. Markle's fashion choices. I often think that no matter what she does, it will never be good enough for some individuals. It is shame that it appears to be just too much to simply celebrate the happiness of others.

Because no one is perfect, I personally enjoy seeing Ms. Markle and others, Mette Marit, Queen Maxima and P Charlene changing up the definition of what is supposedly appropriate, correct or acceptable for what a female member of royalty should wear. I remember the shock and criticism when Charlene cut her hair short, but now her hair style barely rates a mention.

From the photos and video that I've seen, P Harry and Ms. Markle were meeting attendees in their 20's and early 30's, so her outfit fit in just right with the crowd.

    6. Very well said, @Diane Brown, I also feel, there is a hidden agenda behind this harsh criticism on Meghans style. I usually like her style very much, sophisticated urban chique, that goes perfectly with her personality and her role as well with the social engagements of the couple. T think these two are great together. I hope I will never see one of these stupid british fascinators on MM's head. I also don't get the criticism of her wearing black. Black is a color! and one of the best in fashion.

That said, I must say, the dress above is not a good choice. It is definitely too summery for the occasion, see how others are dressed, and things don't work together, dress, blazer, shoes, bag. Fashionwise a miss in my eyes, but no reason to bring in her upbringing and her background. She is one of the smartest and best educated people the British Royal House has ever seen.( Think of the two dull sisters, who seem to do nothing with their lives than partying, holidaying and wearing ugly hats) She has a vision and a goal in her life and works hard for that. Harry knew exactly why he chose her and fell for her. I wish people would stop these discussions and accept Harry's choice. I am looking forward to their wedding and think we will get to see some beuatiful pictures.

    7. Please, ladies, calm down. Comments about an inappropriate dress or hairstyle are "hate"?? Honestly? What about all the comments on Maximas messy hair or Stephanies famous ill-fitting black pants? Is that not hate? Or are we talking about what is called double standards?
As Lisa Paris says, negative comments on a persons style are not necessarily "hateful".
Please, calm down and think twice before using such a strong word!

      Delete
    8. But Diane's point is that the comments aren't just about her clothes or hairstyle and are a cover for something more insidious. Maybe she's wrong about the people commenting here but I have noticed that in general across social media she gets a lot of negative comments that I don't feel she merits.

      Delete
    9. Thanks ladies 😊

I like the dress well enough. Not for me but I don't think it was inappropriate. That was my point.
As to the rest I do firmly believe that Franny said ...something more insidious. I have seen it here. I see it all over the place. Many as I said use her style as an avenue to bash her more ...when it is not really that dress or her hair but rather the fact that she is an actress
      American
      Older
      Too confident
      Pushy
Biracial...that is the big one. For some reason many feel this is something horrible and the BRF is going to be tainted..blah blah
Actually there is African blood in the family already .... read a history book. Frankly most of are mutts anyway. The royals are no different. For God's sake there is so much inbreeding in the past that some families were wiped out. Victoria and Albert were 1st cousins. That is illegal today.

I am not saying that everyone here is spewing vile bile (oh look a rhyme) 🤣 but one can read bwt the lines and see the ...snobbery and judgmental attitude about woman who met a man and fell in love and here we are...30 days out from their wedding. That is all that really matters people. I am thrilled for Harry! One look at his face and you see how much he loves her! He beams with pride.

And another thing I for one do not want a cookie cutter Duchess.
Variety is the spice of life you know 😉

Catherine has to be more mindful and I bet she wishes for days when she could be more daring. She was pre marriage. Though she is still rather conservative.

I look forward to watching Meghan evolve. I do hope she keeps her free Bohemian spirit. That spirit is what is going to make her a great Duchess! Btw she was very elegant at a function this evening.

      Oh another rant haaaa

Let us just be happy for them in this moment!!! We would want the same for ourselves.

Oh and black? Black is my color so ...there! I wear it pretty much everyday and no one has thought me boring in my style. So she can wear it as much as she likes .... Catherine wears blue ad nauseaum
      Maxima wears bugs
Little Ms Norway wears prairie dresses

      Black works

  27. The lady in the sixth foto dressed in a dark blue pant suit with a wonderful haircut steals the show. Ms. Markle's weak point is her hair; a good hair stylist could no doubt redress that.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I agree with you. She needs a better haircut. Simply letting hang down long strands of hair is not a hairstyle. And this constant fiddling around with the hair, as we have seen it with Catherine, is annoying.

    3. I am waiting for this day @Jean Conradie and I hope it will come soon. It will need a lot of courage for Meghan to wear her natural curly hair. Because there is a lot of pressure in fashion and media for every woman to have long sleek hair despite her natural hair type. Every woman who steps out of this demand faces a lot of harsh critics, e.g. Charlene with her supershort Pixie Cut.

      Delete
    4. I think that, like Catherine, Meghan's frequent reaching for her hair is a bit of a nervous tic. Catherine has decreased this behavior as time has gone by and perhaps Meghan will, too. I do hope that her hair is better controlled at the wedding.

    5. I agree Pine
It is a way of comforting yourself when nervous or stressed..while Meghan is very confident there is no doubt that she must have some nerves. Imagine having to engage in small talk with a smile every single time when wearing 5 inch heels while your mind is running 100 mph because you need to be attentive and know the topic at hand while worrying about your next dress fitting will they like the cake my dress..omg my life is changing ....etc etc...I purposely typed a long running sentence ...all of that would make me fiddle with my hair too....and run to the bathroom 🤣🤣🤣

  28. I wanted to like this--because at least it wasn't black or navy! For me, the positives are the shoes, which look great and I think her hair is a LITTLE tidier. As a number of others have said, if her jacket was worn normally, then the outfit would have been okay--the dress has too many straps and belts and buttons and bits but the jacket smartens it up. Thank goodness the warmer weather means that Harry had got rid of the wretched sweaters he has been favouring, found a tie and looks great.

  29. As a biracial person myself who likes Meghan and am very happy to see her join the royal family, I don't think that the negative comments about her style are necessarily hateful or motivated by dislike of her. I myself did not like this dress and did not find it appropriate--even though I'm rooting for her to do well and succeed in her new role. The dress is too casual and the jacket should have been worn properly or not brought along at all. It distracts form the sophistication of her look. The shoes are lovely but the cross-body bags are something she will have to leave behind. There's no sartorial need for someone like her to carry a cross-body bag--which usually signals a person busily moving about town and needing to secure her bag for ease and convenience. Neither applies here. The dress lacks gravitas, despite it being a day function geared towards youth. It clashes against the more formal ways everyone around her was dressed. As a future duchess she cannot afford to be the most casually dressed person in the group. I think that's what people mean when they call it too casual. She looks underdressed for the occasion, especially without the jacket. I love Meghan but this is a fashion-focused blog and fashion-wise this was not a win, IMHO

  31. Oh for heaven's sake. I have refrained from commenting about MM's style, unless I had something one hundred percent positive to say, because some people take umbrage at any critique of her fashion as though it were of her character or her race. But this "outfit" is more of a NON-outfit. She is wearing a sundress with shoes better suited to a ballgown. Her blazer pairs well with neither. The people in attendance were dressed respectfully formal, for daytime, because they were excited to meet her (I would be, too!). Fashion-wise, Meghan blew it today.

Now, having said that, I still consider it slightly inappropriate in terms of the bare shoulders and the blazer hanging losely on her. It could have looked fantastic with a dark grey chiffon-blouse underneath, perhaps. The bag is good, but not worn across the chest, the shoes are great. All-in-all - it's Meghan, it's her style, but it's not overly royal. She will learn.

  38. I can't say that I particularly like Meghan's ensemble on this occasion, although each piece on its own is quite nice.

I do however like Meghan's more modern approach to fashion, bare legs instead of pantyhose, and pants incorporated into her working wardrobe as Queen Letizia and Princess Mary do.

It will be interesting to watch Meghan's style evolve, just as it has been interesting to see Catherine's style evolve (less High Street fashion, more designer fashion).

  39. I like Meghan more than Catherine. Perhaps Catherine is more impressive woman than Meghan but the future Duchess is more modern and casual than the Duchess of Cambridge. I am sure that Meghan can give all this freshness that Palace desperately needs.

  40. Perhaps a discussion of modern versus classy needs to take place. Not sure what she was trying to do with her outfit.

  41. I think this was, more than anything, a case of mis-matched pieces worn awkwardly. Wrt the dress itself, for a sundress it is unusual in that it is made of a rather stiff, bulky fabric; I'd have preferred something more delicate and summery -- and am _never_ a fan of big buttons. But that's just my taste.
