  3. King's Day is fun day. That's about the only excuse for those spooky outfits. Ok, I kind of like the Missoni dress but not on Laurentien and not the way she wears it. And she should accept that her brests lost the battle against gravity long ago and start wearing good bras.

  4. Amalia really looks beautiful, she's really a young lady now, really nice to see her especially in videos of the event, amazing.

  5. Beautiful happy family. The girls are clearly sisters but each has their own look. Amalia's hair is so pretty and I love her yellow coat.

  7. It would be nice that the princesses show so much attention on their outifts as Maxima does. They all three look so undone and unkept, I understand that they want to keep their profiles as low as possible, but then in this kind of events they will get the attention of the press worldwide and the contrast with their mother is shokking.

    1. IMHO it throws first of all a bad light on their mother. Alexia turns 12 in June and Ariane is only 10 years old. They need a guiding hand to choose the right outfits for such an occasion. How in the world can a responsible mother let her daughter step out in that tiny, useless cardigan on such a cold day? (I live close to the Dutch border and you can believe me it's icy outside.) Poor Alexia must have been frozen down to her bones. And that dreadful beige cape or whatever it is that Ariane is wearing! The poor girl looks like an orphan right out of a Charles Dickens novel. All of Maxima's colleagues dress their daughters so much better.

    2. Agree Romana, this looks bad on Maxima. It frustrates me so much to see a mother who puts so much effort and time into her appearance. Then you see her young daughters who look like they've just put on whatever they could find. Maxima should have put just as much time and effort into her daughters outfits as well. For such a special and important day I would have expected better looking outfits for all 3 girls.

Yes they're at an age where they want a bit of independence and opinion in what they wear. Like any girl does. But they are royal children, princesses no less. So the bar should be held a little bit higher in regards to dressing.

    1. Angie, absolutely true - e verdade! And beside this no "Fashion" comment about the King's brother and his wife from my side.
Maxima's youngest daughter is so delicate, but freezing. But nobody seems to care. The Queen has to outshine the event. Not good.
I could never have done that with my kids on any occasion. And yet I will say the other thing again: they have to take care on the CP's weight. It is simply unhealthy. And nothing is wrong with my opinion, I hope. She is a lovely girl!

  14. Maxima looks good, even her hair, but as usual she has to command all attention.
Unfortunately, she did not spent much time getting her daughters dressed appropriately for the occasion.

    1. Kteach have you noticed that Sophie of Wessex also doesn't seem to pay much attention to dressing Louise either.

      Delete
    2. Diane, that's true but doesn't make it better. On the other hand there is a Mette-Marit who has far more misses than hits when it comes to her own wardrobe but seems to care that her daughter always looks fine and polished at official events. Sorry, but I've started to develop a kind of negative feelings about Maxima and Sophie concerning their role as mothers.

      Delete
    3. Letezia also makes for sure her daughters are nicely dressed at official events as well.
I honestly don't understand mothers who put so much thought and effort into their own outfits, but not their daughters.

    4. Oh Romana yes I agree that it doesn't make it better. I was just replying to kteach.

I myself made sure my 3 children were dressed well. I literally went straight to the children's department first for years. To me it was a direct reflection of ME if my kids looked sloppy. Making mud pies in thr backyard was one thing but out for dinner or a movie or play? No they had to be presentable.

There was the one time w my daughter Emily who insisted on wearing her brothers cowboy boots w her Easter dress. To the point of a total meltdown. So I let her wear them to church BUT she had to take them off for dinner. We both forgot. I have lots of pictures of her looking for eggs in the boots. I will need to call and remind her of this terrible event later 😂😂
She loved those boots. Such a rebel she was and is ~ the apple doesn't fall from the tree 😎

    5. Actually I think Märtha Louise of Norway made the bottom letting her daughters dress REALLY inproper to her fathers 25 year jubilee: http://queensconsortofengland.blogspot.fi/2016/01/the-jubilee-party-starts-for-harald-and.html.

Are these girls here really dressed so badly? Amalia has a nice coat, dress we cannot really see, her hair is nicely curled. Alexia has nice lace dress, I like myself also that cardican, although that is maybe too summery for weather. Ariadne has nice braid up-doe,that is made by professional hair dresser like Amalia´s hair, Ariadne´sn dress may be nice or not we cannot see that. She is feeling cold so her cape was sure too little for her. All kids have nice ballerinas, very suitable for children and they have socks. Only one looking bit un combed is Alexia. What part of this is so terrible really? We have seen so much worse many times.

About my own kids, I tried to dress them (5) properly and felt I also did until one managed to sneak to school in pyjamas. Gosh I was ashamed even when my husband was the one to take them school that day.

    6. I think the girls are maybe not as dressed up as their mother - who could be - but they look perfectly fine. Not the disaster that Sophie's daughter usually looks.
Letizia's girls are usually dressed quite simply, sometimes coordinated, sometimes not. I prefer girls this age to be understated rather than look over-dressed.
Blondiini and Diane - I remember when one of my granddaughters apparently wore a startling mixture of patterns to school and she was asked who was in charge of dressing that morning and she said "Daddy"!

      Delete
    7. Lol Blondiini :) 5 and only 1 showed up in pajamas? You deserve medal! Not easy in the mornings w 3...but 5? Fun stories

Heather your granddaughter story hahaaa "Daddy". Aw yes Daddy dressing .... my husband also thought that red is no matter the depth of color. He said it was in the same "color family". Even the kids would refuse his pairings of clothes. Bless His Heart 😂😜

    8. I'm sorry but really? Questioning mothering because the children aren't as dressed up as you think they should be? They're hardly in rags with birds nest hair.

As for Lady Louise she looks a bit old fashioned at times but she's clean and presentable, as are the Dutch princesses in my opinion.

      Delete
    9. I don't think anyone questioned anyone's "mothering" here Franny. I think the thread here at least is that the children of some royals look a bit messy, haphazard or your own view "old fashioned". Which I agree. I did not say nor did anyone say that they are bad Mothers based on dressing their children. Again this is a fashion blog. We discuss clothes on everyone .... truly I do not think anyone here is saying they are bad Mothers.

    10. Just to clarify - I was referring to Romana's comment about having negative feelings about Maxima and Sophie's mothering.

I understand that people will have different opinions on the fashion - I just think it's a slightly harsh comment given that we aren't talking about the girls being dressed in rags or looking neglected.

No problem with different opinions at all.

  16. I do like Maxima's coat very much, and the hair looks good in spite of the ridiculous hat, overall she looks regal. I will not comment on the girls outfits, there will be plenty of time in the future. I often read extreme criticism about the way Queen Letizia protects her daughters from too much exposure, but I understand why, particularly after reading some of the comments above.

  18. In Holland even young children have a lot of freedom and are allowed to develop their own personality as soon as possible. Maxima probably gave her girls the freedom of choosing their own clothes. They all wear something brown and blue, just like in Maxima's outfit. The comments about Maxima not supervising her daughters clothes are absolutely ridiculous. In our country it's the FREEDOM OF CHOICE that counts and I had to LOL reading that "they are Princesses and therefore have to dress better"....People have NO IDEA about the mentality overhere, even if they live close to our border!

    1. Sorry Noon, let me tell you in Holland people are very much aware of the amount of euros invested per year in the Royal Famly and protocole. Yoy can not blame the mood of 3 pubers on what is a failure in public image departement, something that the king and quuen are very much aware of.

      Delete
    2. Noon, I made the comment about the 3 girls being held to a higher standard. You can "LOL" all you want but I stand by my comments 100%.
In such an important and special event where, hundreds possibly thousands of people turn out to see official representatives of their country, it looks sloppy that the girls are so underdressed. I'm not criticizing the girls, I'm putting full blame on Maxima.

I don't care how independent and easy going they are. Rather you think it's ridiculous or not but they are held to a higher standard.
Of course they want to assert their independence and develop their own individuality, it's a part of growing up.
But, that was an occasion where Maxima should have put just as much effort into her daughters outfits, like she did hers.
On special occasions children should be nicely dressed, not like they just found whatever was hanging in the closet and put it on.

    3. Thank you for your interesting comment, Noon en Len. As someone who does not live in Holland, I like learning from your inside perspective.

  22. Heather, picture 10 tells me that the girls are not soo happy for posing and standing there in front of the public. The whole world around them with their mobile-phones and everything... Surely not so nice for the teenagers. But they have no choice (I mean the kids, ha ha.). If only Maxima had given her daughters a helpful hand with their outfits. For herself! she choosed very carefully every little detail. It really reminds me of Lady Louise Windsor...
