  1. I appreciate that I'm comparing apples to oranges, and it's not my intention to criticize. However, it's very striking to see how different this visit is from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's recent "tour" of India. CP Mary seems to be so invested in making a difference and gets so entrenched with the people that she is visiting. It feels so genuine and she seems comfortable.

    1. Rachel I know you are not trying to compare them - although you are! They are at different stages of their lives. Mary is older, her family is settled, she is the next Queen of her country. Catherine has just started her family, is finding her was as a Royal much further down the pecking order. When Mary was first married with young children she was not going on this sort of mission. Give Catherine time - she will do good things in the future.

    2. It's also a big different between a state visit and a trip like these. We have seen Kate in similar interaction with people in her job. So far she has not been on trips abroad like this, but it will come later. First give her some time to grow in to her role. Mary has had this job for 12 years, Kate 5. Mary is married to the first in line and is a CP, Kate the second and is still "only" a duthess. Marys youngest child is 5 years old, Kates is not even a year old. So give her some credit. And they chose what's important for them self. For Kate it's young people and children's mental health and Mary it's this. No need to compare as you see...and Mary went true the same in her early days. In Denmark she was known as a jet setter only beeing interested in fashion her first years as a CP( an interest she has kept as we see every day ;) ) It took some time to make her image. So Kate will come around too in time.

  2. I think we should stop comparing Catherine to every other royal PERIOD. It is interesting that she is compared to women who are Queens now. Women who are up next in line. Catherine is neither.

She is engaged on her tours and when visiting her patronages. But she is also raising a very young family. Give a break please. Having a stable family and happy children will pay off in the future when Catherine and William move up a notch.

  3. I am in 100% agreement with you Barbara! And the Duchess of Cambridge was sitting cross legged in a ghetto school drawing with an orphan boy just like Mary! Also, I think Catherine is finding her mission with mental health which is an area that can use some help.

    1. The Duchess of Cambridge is not only engaged in mental health issues but also in children's hospices.

  4. I agree with the above comments. It seems unfair to compare ! Louise makes a valid comment, in that CP Mary has had many years to grow into her role, and she does a fine job ! But, I'm sure she herself would be the 1st to say, that it's not a role that can be mastered in a shot period of time ! DOC shows all the qualities of becoming a great consort, and with time and experience and a good solid support network, I'm sure she'll excel at the role !

  5. Oh dear - I didn't mean to cause a fuss! Looking back at my comment, I clearly didn't express myself well. I admire the Cambridges and especially their commitment to mental health and early intervention, and I wasn't intending to criticize them, although I think I unintentionally did. You are all quite right - it was wrong to compare.

    1. We forgive you this time LOL ☺

      Just kidding Rachel. No worries.

I think some of us including me have seen Kate bashed so much for not being more active and so we tend to protect.

  6. I believe the Duchess of Cambridge is to a certain extent being gently eased into the role of "Royal life", even after 5 years of marriage.

This is due to a couple of reasons, the first being the Cambridge's are not the next in line to the throne, the second being I believe Prince William and perhaps other members of the Royal Family are trying to make sure what happened to Diana doesn't happen again.

Diana was thrust into the role of Princess of Wales after her marriage with very little, if any preparation. Yes she married the heir to the throne, yes she was probably prepared for Royal duties and to provide heirs to the throne, but I doubt she was prepared to go from being the daughter of an Earl to one of the most famous photographed women in the world.

I don't think anyone saw the mania the followed Diana coming when Diana and Charles became engaged.
