  10. Unnatural stiff posture as usual. Pale and thin as usual. After all years Letizia still does not dress and comport herself as a queen. More like a starlet. "El Rey" isn't the only one who matters @ 14:43 - she is the Queen of the Spanish people!

    1. A 43 year old starlet??? You're reaching!! Who might they be? Names?

    2. Madonna, Sharon Stone, Penelope Cruz, Eva Mendes... Are you unaware of any popular entertainment? There are many mature women in the field of entertainment. The Queen's look is perfect for a red carpet entrance event but unbecoming on a royal woman attending an award ceremony.

    3. @Anonymous 18:55 - So tired of her stiff posing and showing her bare arms and shoulders. Yes, it's all about her and being a celebrity.

    4. 15:14 Celebrity seems to be your new buzzword feo to pin to her. starlet is usually a term applied to twenty somethings who are trying to make it in the entertainment business. Those women you mention are all hardworking mothers whose salary depends on presenting a youthful polished appearance to the world at large. Why? They are a commodity. Their red carpet appearances occur maybe 3/4 times a year to promote themselves so they have to 'shine'. To do that the major fashion houses send them gowns worth thousands of euros on loan to wear for free. (They've probably all had surgeries and beauty treatments too as has Letizia)
Letizia on the other hand has state visits, banquets, award shows, charity functions and regular audiences where she is always expected to look her best. She makes do with a second tier designer whose talent lands her on best dressed lists anyway, and she has to pay out of pocket.
According to Wikipedia, celebrities are associated with wealth etc. This is obviously not the case. When she is in the company of other royals it is clear that LZ cannot showcase the bling and lavishness that they do. Dressing like other women in Spanish society makes sense. Too showy and she will be accused of acting more royal than the royals. All this blah about how she dresses. Give examples of what she should wear. As for posing no one wins in bloggerville. A certain other royal 'slouches and grins too much'.
Incidentally I think you really like the woman :)

  11. Thin is in. She is too stiff and posing. Too much skin, as per usual. It seems that it's always about her; but Felipe seems to be handling it (for now) better than Prince Charles did back in the "Diana" days that I remember very well.

Letizia is a queen consort, not a celebrity, but she chooses to dress like a celebrity. She obviously loves being on display.

    1. Anon 21:29: I think it’s a waste to time to speculate on Letizia’s motives in choosing how to dress- or for that matter anyone else’s motives for dressing. Why assume that Letizia is attention-seeking? Maybe she’s just more self-confident these days. Maybe she has got over hiding her legs in pants (which she used to wear so often). Maybe she isn’t ashamed of her body anymore. Maybe she wants to make a stand against the years of constant criticism about her shape. Maybe she just wants to wear sleeveless gowns like the other royal women do.
And maybe her habitually “tense” posture is how she braces herself for public engagements-- and yet another round of criticism.
Naturally I have no idea of whether anything I have just written about Letizia actually applies. But if you are going to speculate about motive, it is just as easy to imagine a positive motive as imagine a negative one. The real question is, why would you find a negative motive more appealing?

    2. Each country has its own social customs and dress code. Being a Spaniard myself, I can say that Queen Letizia's black sleeveless outfit is perfectly adequate for any lady to wear to an evening event in which the gentlemen don black tie or dark suit. Not even the most conservative small provincial town grandma would consider Queen L. is showing too much skin. Also cutting the jewellery to a minimum is among us a sign of good taste. As to the fact that she keeps herself upright instead of stooping, it has nothing to do with stiffness or posing, or being on display, but with healthy postural habits. In my modest opinion, that is.

  12. @21:29 Poor girl. This is the body she was given. Why hide it? High necks, sleeves to the wrists, bulky fabric at the hips and hems at the knees seem to be your required uniform of the Queen of Spain. If you look at other pictures of the event you will see that some of the women are wearing versions of outfits that she has worn previously. 1:13's assessment is correct. She is dressed well within the norms of the people they associate with. Let's face it, she is not like her MIL and never will be. The hypocrisy is that her MIL achieved the favored 'look' by wearing pricey designer pieces with no criticism.
One thing to consider though is that there is no such thing as bad publicity. These two are selling an image of family, hard work and dedication to their causes with a few adoring looks thrown in. As long as we keep commenting they will have met their goal.

    1. @ Anonymous 05:23 - I love how you said they are "selling an image". Images are not real, you know. Just sayin'.

    2. 20:21 Images can be real. Sometimes you can believe your eyes. It's mirages and illusions that can't be trusted. But to get back to your statement, constitutional monarchies are to some extent, ah.. superfluous. But..they have figured out how to evolve and be an inspiration/example to their people,by studying for multiple college degrees and trying to preserve their country's culture. For the few hours a week when they are actually visible to the cameras that's the image they portray.

  13. je préfère voir les bras fins de la reine Letizia que les gros bras de la princesse Mette, mais à chacune et chacun son ressenti
Letizia a toujours été mince c'est sa nature alors que certaines princesses s prennent du poids en vieillissant

  14. She is too thin!
She was prettier when she was a journalist: more natural (without botox etc. .) and more sane

  15. @Anonymous 05:21 - Why is mean-spirited? We all have different opinions of Consort Letizia. She had an operation to cure a breathing problem or something and just "happened" to have a nose job at the same time.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Sure Maxi! Sounds like the nose job is causing you breathing problems. So you go de foro a foro with the same thing. Maybe you should be queen?
The words 'more sane' are in question. Why not blame the person who took her out of relative obscurity and foisted her on you? Chicken!!
