  2. As a Muslim, it pains me when someone derides Islam and my religious beliefs. It also pains me when someone derides other religions and other people’s religious beliefs. But what offends me more, much more, are the actions of the criminals who, this week, dared to use Islam to justify the cold-blooded murder of innocent civilians. This is not about Islam or being offended by the Charlie Hebdo magazine. This is about a handful of extremists who wanted to slaughter people for any reason and at any cost.

Islam is a religion of peace, tolerance and mercy. It is a source of comfort and strength for more than 1.6 billion Muslims – the same people who are shocked, saddened and appalled by the events in Paris this week.

Today, I join His Majesty King Abdullah in Paris to stand in solidarity with the people of France in their darkest hour… To stand in unity against extremism in all its forms and to stand up for our cherished faith, Islam. And so that the lasting image of these terrible events is an unprecedented outpouring of sympathy and support between people of all faiths and cultures.

    Queen Rania

  4. Unfortunately Marie, Islam is not a religion of Peace to these extremists. They will use jihad to achieve their goals (much to both your and the West's horror and shock). I think Islam is the only religion to have jihad?
You have far more power as a Muslim Marie to cut out this cancerous growth in your religion. Only Muslims will have any sort of effectiveness against this evil than non believers ever will. The West will respond, but will never be as effective as a proper Muslim response.
Ask yourself (and your community) this: what is more offensive to a believer: the murder, torture, enslavement and acts of war and terrorism being committed today in the name of Mohammed, or books and films designed to mock the extremists and their vision of what Mohammed represents?
You (and your peaceful fellow Muslims) have a long hard road ahead of you I think.....

    4. She could only ever say that Islam is a religion of peace, especially in her position as head of state. She knows the truth, like all the other world leaders do. It will take courage for western leaders to stand up, which would be too politically sensitive, so they won't do it. Meanwhile the extremists will keep killing. To them, non believers are just bugs to be squashed (they didn't think twice before killing the French Muslim police officer). One day something or someone will snap, and then things will get really ugly. In the meantime, we can take solace from the heartening display of compassion and unity displayed around the world.

    5. The truth is that many crimes have been committed by people in the name of religion, not just Islam. For example, the Buddhist 969 movement that has killed hundreds of people in Myanmar. Or the violence committed by anti-abortion activists, like the Army of God, a Christian group. And what about the "Hindu brigades", who are targeting Christians in India?

Religions tell people that they're better than others and everyone else will rot in hell. What else can we expect from religious people but violence and contempt? I wish I knew what kind of world we would be living in if George Bush Senior hadn't invaded Iraq in the first place.

Anon, it is not the responsibility of western leaders to stand up, but the leaders of Muslim nations and leaders in the Muslim world. Their voice is all too silent. Where are they when their people are being slaughtered in Nigeria, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, etc etc etc.

Neither Rania of Jordan, nor any of those 'world leaders', were actually "marching in solidarity" in Paris: instead, they were assembled on a side street participating in a group photo opportunity complete with massive security (unlike the general public); the Independent (UK) newspaper has an article and photos showing them quite removed from all the mere 'common folk' and they continued to stay apart. They were not 'leading' the march, but amongst them are leaders of countries which have disgraceful records of imprisonment or even execution of journalists. That march was not about defending freedom of speech but was a 'touchy, feely' display of mindlessness which fails to address the very real problems facing European peoples: Islam, the deliberate invasion of Europe's borders, the resultant crime, societal destabilisation and the eagerness of the EU to impose more restrictions on freedom of speech, public discourse and the right of assembly as well as the right of citizens to arm themselves against hostile alien forces.

  8. Amazing pictures..... Queen Rania and King Abdullah II never participated in this march. Marocco's embassy explained that they couldn't as there were some pictures of Mohammed among the marching crowd. They only present at the Elysée Palace reception.

I watched TV and they really never were there.NEVER.

    And I AM CHARLIE.

I apologize, there was a mistake, I had to remove.
