King Abdullah II and Queen Rania of Jordan were in New York, USA, for the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. On 22 September 2026, Queen Rania attended a high-level dialogue organised by Save the Children during UN General Assembly week. The Queen called for urgent international action to protect Palestinian children subjected to military detention.
During the United Nations event, Queen Rania, who serves as a UNICEF Advocate and Honorary Chairperson of the United Nations Girls’ Education Initiative, delivered remarks at the high-level dialogue. The Queen was joined by the Irish Taoiseach, Micheál Martin, and representatives of Save the Children and the State of Palestine at the High-Level Dialogue on Palestinian Children in Military Detention.
