On Tuesday, September 1, 2026, King Haakon VIII took the Oath to the Constitution in the Storting. Taking the oath is one of the most important constitutional acts connected with a succession to the throne. During the ceremony, the King undertakes to govern in accordance with the Constitution and laws of Norway. King Haakon VIII took the oath before the Storting.
During the ceremony on September 1, President of the Storting Masud Gharahkhani read the official announcement from the Office of the Prime Minister regarding the death of King Harald V and the succession of a new King to the throne. Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra, Queen Sonja and Prince Sverre Magnus attended the oath-taking ceremony of the King.

DeleteIngrid looked more confident and interactive. Her father looked nervous, didnt even look at her once.
DeleteI think rather than nervousness he may have been very worried about his wife back in hospital on top of everything else.
DeleteSolemn, dignified, magnificent. ♥️ .
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly
DeleteIndeed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DeleteTrue.
DeleteSuch a dignified family a fine example of decorum and duty.
ReplyDeleteVery very true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DeleteThe Crown Princess’ poise and composure here are impressive.

It's very sad that queen Mette-Marit couldn't attend, due to complications from the lungtransplant. She's now at the hospital for check ups ❤️

Her immunity is compromised, she needs to wear a mask and gloves when she goes out!
Delete7:44 when she goes out in the fresh air, she doesn’t need mask and gloves. If she were in a large crowd it would be a good idea. I think we can trust that she’s given and is following the very best advice and not advise her further!
DeleteComing to add that Queen Mette-Marit was scheduled to attend as well but then had to pull out at very short notice because of some condition related to her lung transplant had occured and she needed to be monitored for it. The King travelled to and from the Storting building (very short distance from the royal palace) by a chic vintage convertible car (Lincoln Continental 1966) with open top. Crownprincess Ingrid-Alexandra signed a seperate oath for herself upon returning to the palace, as required by the Norwegian constitution. Only the king has to take the oath verbally in front of the Storting, for the heir to the throne it suffices to submit this oath in written form.
ReplyDeleteThis dignity and composure shown by the royal family in the face of their very very grief are so impressive to me—I can't find the right words... May God bless THEE all !!!
ReplyDeleteWhy do you write THEE each time? I can’t work it out yet.
DeleteGod bless 🙏❤️
ReplyDeletePrestation de serment empreinte de solennité !
ReplyDeleteAnd later today he took Mette-Marit to the hospital himself due to complications with her lung transplant, which is why she wasn't there.
ReplyDeleteWhat a rollercoaster of emotions he (and his children and family) must be going through right now. But they obviously have a very strong bond, that's their biggest merit. He's an admirable man, King Haakon.
I don’t beleive he took her to the hospital himself but went after his swearing in ceremony
DeleteAnonymous 00:27.
DeleteHaakon did drive Mette-Marit to the hospital himself, we saw photos. Of course the police followed in another car.

Distinguished. Dignified - I am full of admiration. All the best for them. Ingrid from Germany
ReplyDeleteThe utmost dignity and grandeur may abide in the simplest gestures.
ReplyDeleteTwo highlights here imo.
- King Haakon swearing his oath.
I sense he will make an outstanding Monarch.
He carried an invisibile burden of grief on his shoulders , still he stood in front of the Norwegian Parliament reading that essential, moving oath.
All for Norway- he said with unweawering determination, while his " Dronning" is still suffering from the expected complicarions due to the major surgery she underwent two months ago.
This brought tears to my eyes.
- CP Ingrid Alexandra : dignity and beauty personified while signing the written oath to uphold the country's Constitution.
She embraced her destiny with calm composure, a magnificent Nordic goddess ready to face whatever future brings.
Father and daughter supported each other with a quiet, mutual admiration.
I noticed that Sverre does not wear the late king Harrald’ portrait pin. Ingrid and Sonja both are wearing one. Is it just something ladies wear? It is a beautiful pin.
ReplyDeleteThe Royal Family Order of Harald V was bestowed exclusively upon female members of the Royal House: Queen Sonja, Crown Princess Mette Marit, Princess Martha Louise, Princess Astrid, the late Princess Ragnhild, and Princess Ingrid Alexandra.
DeleteVery dignified. The new King of Norway has enormous shoes to fill.

I read that following the swearing- in, King Haakon was seen heading to the hospital where Queen Mette- Marit Is currently under medical observation.
ReplyDeleteMette was released from the hospital around 21.30. They probably had a check up and got her medication under control since it looks like she was throwing up when Haakon drow her to the hospital.https://www.seher.no/images/85096608.jpg?imageId=85096608&panox=51.01&panoy=43.02&panow=24.00&panoh=17.20&heightx=57.89&heighty=38.06&heightw=13.43&heighth=32.40&width=744&height=510&format=webp&format=webp

DeleteThank you for the links, much appreciated.
Hope that Q.Mette- Marit can recover soon from this- unfortunately- predictable complication.
She is carrying a heavy burden of physical and emotional distress and pressure at such an early stage of recovery from a lung transplant.
Definitely too much for her to bear.
Great dignity and so very composed, I cannot imagine having all eyes on you world wide, and dealing with grief at the same time.
ReplyDeleteSono preparati anche ad affrontare momenti come questi.
DeleteBasta guardare Ingrid Alexandra, da giovane serena studentessa in jeans a perfetta principessa ereditaria, sguardo fermo e fiero...è già nel ruolo.
Rossella I agree with you, they have been well prepared for this and are a fine example of family
