On September 19, 2026, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako of Japan visited Aichi Prefecture to attend the opening ceremony of the 20th Asian Games, held at Paloma Mizuho Stadium in Nagoya. Prince Akishino, the honorary patron of the Games, and his wife, Princess Kiko, also attended the ceremony.

The Games feature 43 sports, 71 disciplines and 469 medal events, with more than 17,000 athletes from 45 countries and regions taking part. The event is held on a four-year cycle.
