Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden is making a five-day visit to Indonesia in her capacity as Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) from September 4 to 8. State Secretary Diana Janse is also taking part in the visit. The UNDP is a United Nations agency tasked with helping countries eliminate poverty and achieve sustainable economic growth and human development.
The visit to Indonesia began in Jakarta. On Friday, September 4, Crown Princess Victoria was received by Indonesia’s Minister of National Development Planning, Rachmat Pambudy. The Crown Princess and State Secretary Janse then visited Indonesia’s National Monument, Monas, in Jakarta, which was built to commemorate Indonesia’s struggle for independence.
Afterwards, the Crown Princess and Diana Janse visited Indonesia’s Biomedical and Genome Science Initiative (BGSi), a UNDP-supported initiative focused on genomics research. The delegation also visited Indonesia’s national mosque, Istiqlal, and Jakarta Cathedral. At the mosque, the Crown Princess was received by Nasaruddin Umar, the Grand Imam of Istiqlal Mosque and Minister of Religious Affairs.
