On August 6, 2026, Queen Letizia of Spain, accompanied by Crown Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía, visited Esment House in Palma de Mallorca to learn firsthand about the work carried out at the Esment Foundation's printing house, where people with disabilities are employed. The Esment Foundation (Amadip Esment Fundación) is a prominent Spanish non-profit organization founded in 1962 in Palma de Mallorca.
As part of their stay in Mallorca, Queen Letizia and her daughters learned more about the Foundation's work to promote the rights, independence, and social and professional inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities and their families. During the two-hour visit, they were given a detailed insight into how the Foundation's printing house combines social inclusion with the highest professional standards.
Both daughters in lovely dresses. Both dresses fit well, and both ladies look very good. I also like Letizia's top. The colour, fabric and design are lovely.

ReplyDeleteSadly I do not like anything about these dresses for the princesses. The patterns plus shape have an unflattering effect on their lovely figures, and make the princesses look bulkier than they actually are. And in my view, these particular prints are more suited to the mature woman.

I note how the face and hair of Letizia and the women in red and yellow-and-white do not look dull, even though they are all standing together under the same light -- thanks to the plain, clear colours they are wearing. Delete@Lyra: "pattern suited to the mature woman": would you really like it on "the mature woman"? Or would you think "OK old ladies love allover patterns, I don't like them anyway"? Or may I suspect that this is a replacement for "I hate allover patterns and would never wear them"? Really - I frankly don't understand this "age bias" for patterns and suspect that it wants to be polite (by not saying "ugly") but at the same time, hurts "the mature woman". Sorry for this - I sure don't want to hurt you, it is just something recurring with commenters on outfits and it puzzles me

DeleteTo clarify, I do not dislike these patterns per se, in fact I love patterns and I am very partial to the paisley print Leonor is wearing (though I do know that this particular item wouldn't suit me, like a lot of clothes I see on this site which I like!) These patterns are designs likely to be found in the wardrobes of Mathilde, Maxima, Letizia, Victoria, Sophie etc -- mature women in their forties and fifties -- and I admire quite a few of the examples I've seen.
I've got more to say but I've run out of time, so I'll come back to this thread tomorrow. Lyra
P. Leonor wore this dress before. (See last picture left with Lee Radziwill in her wheel chair) It was during summer 2025 or even earlier in 2024.

DeleteI don't believe that patterned clothes are by their nature assigned to certain age groups - a pattern is just a work of art after all. But I have observed that, owing to shifts in fashion, patterns are linked to the era in which they became popular. Fashion patterns go through trend cycles, exactly like hemlines.
Fashion houses catering specifically for 18-25 year olds sell mostly what is on trend – including patterns – and offer fewer “classics” or patterns from earlier eras. As a rule, young people are not interested in wearing the same fashions as the older generation. It is the mature, confident women with defined taste – who has identified her own personal style – who will buy patterns based on what she likes, or what is timeless, not what is on trend.
So I was surprised to see the princesses wearing these styles which are not only classic in design (with an adjustment of hem length) but “classic” in patterns ie, patterns which could easily be worn by their mothers’ or grandmother’s generation. (The website of the fashion house which made Leonor’s dress is clearly, from its models alone, an “all ages” fashion house.)
Youth is of course a time to experiment with fashion, which can include wearing clothes from other eras and generations. I commented on the princesses’ choices because I feel this style direction, in this instance, was not a good choice for them. Lyra

ReplyDeleteSofia's dress is refreshingly lovely, age appropriate, young and suits her well. Leonor looks equally good. Letizia's blouse is good, especially for the warm weather, the color is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteConcerning the dresses of Leonor and Sofia - I seldom like strong allover patterns on anyone in any age. They are not matronly, simply because frankly, which "matron" would look good in it? The patterns and their colours are like strong magnets, pulling the eye away from everything else, including cut and design details. To Leonor's hairstyle: she looks pretty, but I think this is not her natural hair structure. She had curls as a small girl, later on not any more, only smooth bigger waves were sometimes to be seen. Whatever she made to look that curly, it is nice for a change, but might involve a lot of work to maintain and I'd prefer her natural hair (unstraightened) to see as her default for open hair, ponytail or updo.

ReplyDeleteI prefer Princess Sofia's dress. It has a younger look than the dress worn by Princess Leonor. Under the photo of the brand VILA, the dress is described as a midi dress, although it is shorter than P. Leonor's dress. As P Sofia is tall the dress ends above her knees which give it a younger look than the POLIN et MOI dress worn by P. Leonor.

ReplyDeleteI thought this question has been asked when we saw the photo's of the 2026 summer reception held at Marivent Palace on august 4 in Mallorca. I saw Princess Leonor with curls in her hair for the first time. When she and her sister were children and later on as teenagers, I always saw them on the pictures with straight, long and silky hair never with curls. Since curls are in again since this summer and since P. Leonor has finished her service in the military, I think we will see her regularly with more trendy hairstyles and outfits.

The colour combination of the Vila dress is fantastic on infanta Sofia. It makes her glow. Outshining Queen Letizia and Princess Leonor is not easy for anyone to do, but she has done so on this occasion.
