The King and the Crown Princess first received President of the Storting Masud Gharahkhani. They then received Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Toril Marie Øie and Preses of the Church of Norway Olav Fykse Tveit.
On August 29, 2026, King Haakon VIII gave his first speech to the nation at the Royal Palace in Oslo. Norway’s new King Haakon VIII addressed the Norwegian people for the first time since ascending to the throne, paying tribute to his 89-year-old father, who passed away the day before. “We are in mourning, yet at the same time, it brings comfort and strength that so many are grieving together with us,” King Haakon said.
