On Monday, July 20, 2026, Prince Albert and Princess Charlene attended a screening of the restored version of the film Le Mariage de Monaco (The Wedding of Monaco) at the Prince’s Palace. A restored version of Jean Masson’s 1956 film was screened on a large screen in the Courtyard of Honour of the Prince’s Palace before an audience of 450 people.
The film contains never-before-seen footage of the events of April 19, 1956, when Grace Kelly married Rainier III and became a princess. The footage was shot by Jean Masson, who made the half-hour film that was screened in cinemas for two years, from 1956 to 1958. The reels and raw footage of his film, Le Mariage de Monaco, were found in old boxes in the projection room that Princess Grace had set up inside the palace.

I think she should be remembered on special occasions. Why ever not? This year marked the 70th anniversary of this iconic wedding (well, that's what it was back then), and understandably so the Princely Family had some commemorative events going on, this was one of them.
DeleteI think they should celebrate Princess Grace every time they can. When she married Prince Ranier Monaco was struggling and close to bankruptcy. Her celebrity status made Monaco a global luxury destination. She revamped the casinos making money for Monaco and increased tourism making it a playground for the rich and famous. The decision to marry her was the best thing Prince Ranier ever did, it made Prince albert the billionaire he is today!

Fitzhugh, it’s not historically true that Monaco would have collapsed financially without Grace Kelly. She was fantastic for Monaco's image, but Rainier was already restructuring before she came along (to diversify from primarily casino revenue). The family and principality had been amassing their fortune since the 1200’s and were still stinking rich, despite the changing casino profits. Now Albert is worth $1billion, and the basis to the wealth was there for a long time prior. This is why I laugh when people say Charlene has her clothes gifted to her by big brands… she belongs to an extraordinarily rich family and spends very easily.

Charlene can wear almost about anything and look reasonably good in it. But I would not have missed just this garment as a proof thereof. It is plain and simple and ot really attractive. The whole body pleating directs the eye to prominent parts, in this case: the breasts and I think nobody really needs or values this feature. Other features are not really detectable.

DeleteLovely colour. Draping of the pleats on the top is not the best look, your eye is drawn to two orbs. The skirt is nice and swishy, shoes a perfect match. I do prefer her hair down as it softens her overall look.

ReplyDeleteEur600+ for a dress to wear to watch a 30 minute movie and is 99% guaranteed to only be worn once (Charlene’s normal) is extravagant … but right now girls the dress (not in gold) is on special around Eur300 which is a very good price for a very rewearable article of good quality. I do wonder how we’ve arrived at the point where women’s public figure fashion has an unwritten “wear something new” emphasis, versus the much better logic of men’s fashion (buy a well tailored suit, and wear it a lot - just change the accessories for a small difference if you need, e.g. a tie ). Women’s fashion has an implicit high waste / low sustainability inherent and it is utter madness.

Designers would gladly give her these dresses for free! cause of the publicity, thats why we never see then again!

Would you state your source that she does not rewear this dress, or are you personally acquainted with the princess. As for the dear Prince he probably contri the material to create the film. It may just being a smile to his face that their legacy has been preserved.

It is Albert who keeps the memory alive. How many exhibitions haven't been organised in Monaco as well as in New York. Exhibitions of photo's dresses handbags shoes etc... of Princess Grace. I think he just feels fine when he sees photo's, films of his mother and with him as a child.

And for most people in the world and I guess most readers, eur600 on a dress to watch a movie is extravagant and beyond their reach. That’s ok. ReplyDeleteI think it’s wonderful that they are showing this footage…a celebration of Monaco history and a family love story. And it would be a special experience to watch it at the palace so well done to the royal family for inviting so many to attend.
I love the fall of the pleating, this is very attractive and becoming. The color of the dress is sublime as is the fabric. I love the style of this dress, it suits the Princess's shape and height well. The color of her shoes, perfect!

ReplyDeleteCharlene is everything but Grace Kelly, IMHO. Not her body type, not her face, and last not least: not her outfit style. She is very much and very identifiably herself - which is something I am sure is everybody's preference. Or would you like to be constantly compared to someone else by people who don't even know you? "Unspoken pressure" again gossiping here... I find it very disrespectful, to say the least.
