King Rama X and Queen Suthida of Thailand are undertaking a four-day state visit to France. On 30 June 2026, the King and Queen visited the exhibition La Mode en Majesté: Royal Thai Dress — From Tradition to Modernity at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, at the invitation of Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya.

The exhibition, organized in collaboration with the Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles and the Sustainable Arts and Crafts Institute of Thailand (SACIT), features pieces from the royal collection. The late Queen Sirikit maintained close relationships with leading French and European fashion houses beginning in the 1960s.

Queen Sirikit of Thailand worked to preserve Thailand’s textile and handicraft heritage and founded the SUPPORT Foundation to advance this mission. Today, the Support foundation operates under the patronage of Queen Suthida. Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana, as a fashion designer, continues this legacy by supporting a new generation of Thai creatives and promoting the wider use of traditional textiles.

Princess Sirivannavari wore a round-neck dress paired with a skirt featuring a dotted Mudmee silk pattern. The dress was tailored from dark navy jersey fabric, while the skirt was crafted from Mudmee silk using traditional tie-dye patterning and hand-weaving techniques. The textile was produced by the CHATTUWAN Thaisilk Weaving Group, while the dress was created by Pyvet’s tailoring team.

  1. The close up of the Queen's dress is quite magnificent. I appreciate the craftmanship, quite intricate. This style looks lovely, feminine and elegant. Her accessories are perfect. Love the color of this ensemble.
The Princess equally beautiful. Her outfit, is also very attractive. I saw a close up elsewhere can't remember what site, of her pearl earrings, so beautiful!

Both royal women look immaculately presented --- and the result is exquisite. Sirivannavari's unique dress, a blend of the modern and the traditional, is a feast for the eyes. I was fascinated by the princess's double braid, which suits her look so well; and from searching, I found that in Thailand, the double plait (two braids or pigtails) tied with ribbons is not only "a deeply ingrained symbol of modesty, discipline, and tradition" but is also recently fashionable in Thai pop culture. It's refreshingly different from the hairstyles we are used to seeing on royals. Lyra

I wonder how much salary the people who are working in the production of these fabulous textiles and in the making of these beautiful dresses are receiving ?

      Very little I would suggest.

  5. The fabric and structure of Suthida'a gown is exquisite. It fits her perfectly. I like how the top part of the gown is fitted and the skirt is flared. She has the posture of a mannequin. Her conservative style is a sharp contrast to the Princess who chose a more modern look. She also looks fabulous with the plain top against the printed skirt.

  6. The late Queen Sirikit, The Queenmother, was very interested in fashion, not only in designs of her own country, but also in what other countries, in particular "the West", had to offer. She often wore what would be considered "occident clothes", and even put an emphasis on evening wear from that part of the world. Which was something quite unusual then but she was fantastic in mixing the various fashions/traditions. Some of her choices of clothing might even have raised eyebrows on occasion because of how modern they had been. Right now, Thailand - with Queen Suthida as the leading figure fashion-wise - seems to go back a little to the very traditional (and a bit more modest) Thai style. Which is nothing bad per se, if I may add. Princess Sirivannavari apparently is keeping up the ways of her late grandmother, being extremely into fashion and design. Very interesting to watch. So far, I truly enjoyed this state visit.
