Of course this event required no high fashion, but I still think princess Anne looks terribly dated and she should face the facts. Mix old with new, many of us do that,
but without some NEW accessories and clothing the look is now becoming increasingly boring. She is a major royal, no longer young, and the public deserves
better. This misunderstood frugality is harming her outstanding qualities.

    1. Really! I was thinking just the opposite, she is loyal to the King, she gets up and goes everyday and you can tell she cares and enjoys what she does. I think you have your priorities wrong!

If you don't like her attitude, talk for yourself. You seem to imply that you know exactly what the "public" deserves. But the public you seem to talk about estimates the Princess Royal highly for something completely different - whatever she choses to wear. Don't declare your expectations to generally valid please. Her kind of frugality is not misunderstood - it stands against "buy new, buy new, let's make trash in the 3rd world grow!" . Again: talk for yourself!

Virginia, she’s 78! By the time we are that age we are wise and we are wrinkled and we know ourselves. She’s not dated nor boring - she’s just not dressing in what you would like her to wear. And that distinction is very important. The public deserves better? She’s not a prop! She’s the Princess Royal!

@10:36"She is a major royal, no longer young" - What does age have to do with it? A major royal of any age distinguishes himself or herself though work. This is what she does. I don't think that members of the public "deserve" anything fashion-related from her.

Anne never had style, and her loyalty to her brother has nothing to do with it. She might be dutiful, yet still lacking fundamental understanding of style.

Anne does twice the work of the young royals at the age of 78. I say cut her some slack, its her presence, not her style, that people appreciate. She's an asset to the family.
Could she be styled better? Yes. But the elements are great. That red dress is a lovely color and fabric.

    7. princess anne is not a celebrity or a model. she is a royal and a very hard working one. when she was young she wore high fashion. she is mature now and long past worrying about trivialities

Even if she is a hard working royal it does not excuse her to wear most of the time old worn out clothes, nor does her age. The population is paying taxes to the government for her yearly budget (representation costs).Today a woman of 78 does not dress like old women used to dress in the past. I am 80 years old next year and I can assure you that I wouldn't wear for all the money she has, clothes like she wears and doing my hair the way she is doing her's. I would be ashamed of myself to go out in the clothes Princess Anne is wearing. And the old jewelry she is wearing, I do not like either. I also have classic jewelry that once belonged to my mother, grandmother and a cousin of my father. At least my jewelry doesn't look old, it is well looked after and repaired and cleaned professionally when necessary. I can assure you I am not an amateur of fast fashion and do not buy every season a new outfit, but sometimes it is necessary to control my wardrobe and replace a quantity of clothes which become really too old. My style is modern classics.

Princess Anne is 75, going on 76 next month!
This her style that she's comfortable. We have all Royals after 40 they are stable in their style hair or outfits

Once 75, a year more or less doesn't change much in the way a woman dresses. At 40 women these days are dressed like young women of 25 years old. Times are over to wear clothes which make a woman looking older than she is, signed 16:02.

Those black gloves look awful to me. And it looks like she pulled them on after she was greeted by her hosts. When ever does one do that? Shake hands with your hosts with your bare hands and then quickly pull on some gloves?

The black gloves are just another example of her lack of sartorial awareness

    3. Anonymous18/7/26 19:36

I think it is part of her education and find its origin in a time when people didin't know anything about catching germs and bacteria. You don't become ill by shaking hands of other people. But what you must not forget is to wash your hands before every meal. When coming home after a visit no matter where you have been the first thing one must do is washing our hands. Since the pandemic many people have still a bottle with desinfectant gel in their handbag. It can be applied discretely in the ladies/men's room or even in a room used to hang the coats of the visitors. In many countries it is considered as not done shaking hands with gloves on. I think the younger generation of British royals are not following this habit of wearing gloves when shaking people's hands.

10.36. Your comments are a little off. Yes we all have opinions. You jumped all over her then added a nice bit at the end.she may dress differently to others in the royal family but her choice. she has done it all her life so why should she change now ?

No she didn't dress like that her whole life. When she was a teenager and a young twen, she dressed like every young lady of a good family. She wore beautiful fashionable clothes to go out in the 60-s. It must have been after she became a mother that she started to keep her clothes much longer than before. The same for her hair. She wore her hair differently in the 60-s too. She had a very beautiful wedding dress, then her hair was in an updo which ressembled a bit like it is now, but it was done by a profesional hair stylist and not like it looks now.

For example, the buttons on the red dress could be updated. Or just save the dress for summer picnics at home.

    1. HRH Princess Sirindhorn (the king's sister) has some serious health issues, some of which involve mobility. She broke both her ankles a few years ago. Ever since that incident, she no longer wears any kind of dress shoes.

Yes, but there have been rumours in those days that it was not because of illness and at a certain time she had too much power and was loved very much by the population. And all the stories about what happen to the former wives of the king.
Princess Sirindhorn had always a very simple dressing style. She didn't care how she was dressed. She didn't wore much jewelry and she is still wearing her hair like she did it in those days.

Anne reuses her clothes, and not knowing the fabric of the red dress, I would guess it is cool to wear in the humid climate. Her hair is no nonsense she manages it herself, though I would like to see it styled, it would change her appearance. She sticks to her signature look fashion wise and concentrates on her work . Minimal makeup only needs her lipstick to brighten her face. This red dress is a great colour for her and the gloves serve a purpose not a fashion accessory.

In the first place she doesn't need more make-up, but good skin care.
Her skin is not looked after, just like her hair. Her skin is dry and many women of her age have less wrinkles than she has without using cosmetic tricks like fillers and things like that. Of course if one didn't took care of one's skin in time it is too late now to repair the damage.

What a wonderful comment from Noreen 03:03. With the exception of some of the minor members of the Monaco princely family, the people pictured on these pages do not have the main priority of promoting the latest fashions. Many of them do a great job show casing fashion from their country, but that is not their primary role. We are privileged to be able to have the fun of commenting on how they are dressed, but need to be fair and just when we do so.

I look at these photos and see a Queen who hardly ever makes a fashion misstep. She is elegant, chic and poised. But in the photo here we see a Queen bowing with great respect to a Crown Princess. That's humility you don't often see with all the royal ladies. Queen Suthida gets my top vote every time. Don't get me wrong I love Anne and admire her discipline, her bravery and feistiness -- since a teenager and devotion to service. Fashion is not her thing, she just shows up well groomed and neat and tidy.

Queen Suthida is bowing because it is the custom in her country when greeting someone. The Japanese empress and emperor are bowing too when they say hello to people. Their protocol is completely different than ours.
