Sweden's National Day and Swedish Flag Day were celebrated on June 6. In the evening, members of the Royal Family arrived at the Solliden Stage at Skansen to attend the official National Day celebrations. King Carl XVI Gustaf, Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel, Prince Oscar, Prince Carl Philip, Princess Sofia, Princess Madeleine of Sweden, and Christopher O'Neill took part in the festivities.
Prince Carl Philip also celebrated Sweden’s National Day by sharing a photograph of himself with his daughter, Princess Ines. The Prince captioned the photo, “Happy National Day!”, accompanied by a flower emoji. Princess Ines wore a traditional dress featuring the colours of the Swedish flag. She also wore a matching blue-and-yellow headband.
Happy National day. So nice to see the whole family together and little Ines as well. Today is a busy day. National day Sweden, wedding in the UK and Liechtenstein. His Holiness visits to Spain. But nothing about the memory of D Day which also is on June 6th. To honor the ones who did not come home and also let it be a warning to the living. Sorry to put the happy with the sadness.

Delete1. The royals cannot be at 2 or 3 places at the same time
2. Were they invited in Normandy this year ? Maybe we'il have to wait until the 85th anniversary of D-day.
3. In France there are commemoration ceremonies eacht year on June the 6th. Maybe you'll have to look at You tube. I am sure you will find a video of the anniversary there.
Welcome to fancy dress. A bit over the top. I am proud of my countries own traditions etc but i would draw the line at this one
ReplyDeleteI have such respect for countries holding on to good traditions which bring people together, and I love the Swedish National dress. I feel a bit sad that you would call this fancy dress in a derogatory way and not instead be curious as to what it means to the Swedes.

DeleteAgree. Sweden have many different lovely national dresses, but this flag coloured one is ugly. Just look at the photos of Madeleine earlier this week and see the difference.

ReplyDeleteI wished they would use other folk costumes we have seen them in before they are lovely. This Sweden costume is not in my opinion.

ReplyDeleteI think I've read once that these traditional dresses are rather young and have been designed especially for the royal ladies. They are considered as the national dresses.
Their real traditional dresses are different and older than this model. Probably each region of Sweden has their own traditional costumes. At special festive days one can see sometimes women and men in their regional traditional dress. (look carefully in the back of pics. N° 3 & N°7).
It looks like a happy day, and the ladies look lovely and proud in their national dress. Carl Philip looks like he has a shorter haircut, which, in my opinion, looks much better on him than the longer style he has sometimes had.
