On the afternoon of June 4, 2026, Queen Máxima opened the newly renovated Valkhof Museum in Nijmegen. Nijmegen is located along the former northern frontier of the Roman Empire. The new permanent exhibition, People on the Border (Mens op de grens), tells the stories of people living in and around Nijmegen, from prehistory to the present day.
Queen Máxima officially opened the museum and toured the collection. She also met with the architects, designers, and several artists involved in the project. The museum presents stories at the crossroads of different eras, people, cultures, and ideas.
Highlights of the collection include what is believed to be the world’s oldest toy figurine, a Roman face mask, a diorama of a Surinamese plantation, and footage of the Nijmegen protests of the 1980s. The opening exhibition is a presentation by Spanish artist Fernando Sánchez.

Was the hat really necessary! but good on her being the busiest Royal on the blog, so she deserves the long holidays many weeks at the world cup.
ReplyDeleteYes Maxima continues the queenly tradition in the Netherlands of always wearing hat for an opening. I love this tradition!
DeleteMax has really lost his way a bit lately; no flattering outfits, sloppy, and the hairdresser has left as well.
ReplyDeleteits wedding season
DeleteWhat a rude comment.
DeleteHave to agree.
DeleteThis comment has no respect for the person it speaks of. She’s a woman, with feelings. Think how you would feel to read the same about yourself.
DeleteI agree with 21:13.
DeleteAgree with this comment.
DeleteÉlégant modèle de robe dont la couleur va à ravir à la Reine mais je me serai abstenue de ce genre de bibi !
ReplyDeleteHas she lost her fashion advisor or does she not care anymore about her appearance?
ReplyDeleteSorry, but I don't really like this dress on Maxima. The colour doesn't suit her, and the flare of the skirt looks wrong. I don't know what's happened to her hair either. Still, I admire her for getting out there and involved - she's a busy lady.
ReplyDeleteThe is no refinement in her way of presenting herself. Too much of everything.
DeleteHer hair is fine. It is not perfected with heaps of styling product so that every hair is stuck together, but rather has been well brushed and then perhaps had a little breeze against it. Normal human hair.
DeleteThere are people on this blog who are obsessed by the fact that hair might not be brushed. Hair that is just brushed can look nice but when you put one step outside all your hair can fly up because of the wind. Tomorrow it is a weak now that the hot weather ended in a terrible storm and floods as well in Belgium, The Netherlands and the nord of France. Since then the weather is not stable any more : lots of wind, sometimes rain and a t° around 15°C maximum. Better weather has been anounced for the weeks to come. If you cannot use or do not want to use hair spray the most beautiful hairstyle is gone in a few seconds and looks exactly like Queen Maxima's hair.
DeleteI like Maxima’s floral earrings and necklace, but am on the fence about the dress. Maybe I would like a more subdued color better. At first, quick glance, I thought her hat looked like a large pine cone, before I looked more closely and realized it is large brown flowers. I think.

The actual dress fits perfectly, love the color. Quibble -- I don't like the dense lace, personally I don't find this attractive, regardless though of my tastes she does wear this dress well. What I do love is the triple strand pearl necklace, fits well, perfect length but again I feel the dress is too lace dense for the appearance of the pearl necklace, at first I completely missed seeing this at her neckline. I do love the color of her shoes and clutch, perfect match. She has marvelous work ethic, busy, making a difference and noticeably always cheerful, engaging and always interested / enthusiastic in her visits no matter what they are. You never get the vibe she is just going through the motions. I find this extremely admirable. Reminds me of the Princess Royal.
ReplyDeleteShe is nowhere near the class of Princesse Anne.
DeleteThe dress is already old-fashioned. The ridiculous hair accessory isn't necessary. Hardworking, well, with two months of summer vacation you can't complain.
ReplyDeleteAgree, don’t forget the in between holidays.
DeleteShe is in her re-wears era, i like the dress the first time around and i like it again. She uses unusual color combinations and appreciate that.
