Prince Albert II of Monaco, Princess Caroline of Hanover, and Princess Alexandra of Hanover visited the exhibition “Wedding of the Century: Monaco, 12–19 April 1956”, held at the Prince’s Palace. In April, Monaco celebrated the 70th anniversary of the wedding that changed the history of the Principality. Seven decades ago, Rainier III married Grace Kelly.
To mark the anniversary of Prince Rainier and Grace Kelly’s wedding, the Prince’s Palace organised a major exhibition entitled “Wedding of the Century: Monaco, 12–19 April 1956.” Open throughout the summer, the exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to discover iconic photographs from the event, as well as treasured keepsakes from the special day.
One of the first iconic pieces on display is the pink and white lace dress worn by Grace Kelly for the civil wedding ceremony. The dress was designed by Helen Rose. Also on display are the gown worn by the Princess for the gala evening and the diamond and ruby tiara gifted by the Société des Bains de Mer.
However, the true highlight of the exhibition is the dress worn for the religious wedding ceremony. Also designed by Helen Rose, this gown later served as inspiration for the wedding dresses of Catherine, Princess of Wales, Princess Sofia of Sweden, and Kitty Spencer.

I very much like the skirt Caroline is wearing, not sure about the shoes,or the blouse. Her necklace is such a unique piece with the large R positioned for the first letter of Rainier, second letter in Grace and the third letter in Caroline. It would be interesting to know if the gold used to make the heart is from special jewelry.
ReplyDeleteThe heart has the full names "Grace", "Rainier" and "Caroline" engraved on it: https://www.instagram.com/p/DZxonaRjII4/?img_index=9
Delete0959 is that not what was said that the R ran thru the 3 names
DeleteAnon 09.59 Thank you for the link and explanation, it was hard for me to see. Good to read the background story on Instagram, wonderful.
DeleteMaybe it is a precious jewel (golden heart) to Caroline and other family members but as a jewel I don't like it.
DeleteCaroline looks nice, although I think the casual cotton (?) shirt and lace skirt are an odd pairing. Alexandra’s skirt is cute, but the top does nothing for it, or for her. Nevertheless, she’s cute as a button ♥️ — Jane
ReplyDeleteYour comment made me look again at Alexandra! I actually really like that Chinese inspired top on her and think it creates a very coherent outfit. The first time I looked down the photos I was so overwhelmed by the opulence I missed seeing the human outfits!
DeleteIt must be heartbreaking to visit your own mother's wedding especially one that was taken away from them so young.
ReplyDeleteOh yes I agree with that 2:48. Do we perhaps see that in picture 2 of Caroline? I can hardly see the dresses for the opulence of the room. The red silk (?) wallpaper is A LOT.

ReplyDeleteGrace of Monaco, always elegant--Her wedding dress is very beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI did read on Instagram (cannot remember the blogger name, that Alexandra’s outfit was one of her mothers and Alexandra has worn this a few times in the last few years. The top I don't find appealing. Princess Caroline, her outfit is interesting, imo there is a disconnect between the skirt and blouse. I like her shoes and bag. What was a surprise was the beautiful necklace and gold pendant, this looks beautiful.
ReplyDeletePrincess Grace imo was the most beautiful bride I have ever seen, to this day. She looked so beautifully put together. I did love the civil ceremony two-piece suit, this was incredibly beautiful. Pic 4/5. The gown in Pic, 7 (I believe worn on the gala evening) I saw a photo of the Princess in this gown, stunning.
In those days she was indeed the most beautiful bride we (the people of my generation) had ever seen. But if you should wear the dress now completely like it was then it would be less beautiful.
DeleteMany bridal gowns have been inspired on Princess Grace's dress, but they are not the same. The neckline is different, Princess Grace didn't wore a tiara, the skirt of Princess Grace's dress was very balloon like which many ladies do not like, etc.. Since then I saw many beautiful and many less beautiful bridal gowns : the bridal gown of Princess Diana f.ex. was a no, much too wide and plenty of wrinkles. The gown of Princess Catherine (which was inspired on Princess Grace's) was very beautiful. I can name very beautiful bridal gowns, but it all depends on who is wearing it, in what season, in which church (big cathedral, or a normal church the wedding took place, etc....
Is anyone else completely shocked that Caroline and one of her kids came to see something honouring Grace??
ReplyDeleteWe know Caroline doesn't really have many good things to say about Grace compared to Stephanie and especially Albert. The Casiraghi kids are the same.
Nobody went to the exhibition last year. To be fair Caroline and Alex don't look very happy.
But cautiously and presently surprised to seem them there especially Caroline necklace tribute. That got me emotional
“We” know nothing of the kind, and neither, I suspect, do you. Weren’t you ever told, “don’t believe everything you read”? There are many sites on which to make negative, gossipy (dare I say completely unfounded?) comments. Please take yours to one of those.
DeleteFrom what I can see of HRH P Caroline’s sandals, I really like them. I am firmly in the camp of high heels if one wants to wear them and these to me are lovely!
DeleteI’m not at all shocked. It’s her mother.
DeleteWhat an iconic exhibition, love everything, especially the bridal gown, of course.
ReplyDeletePrincess Grace was one of a kind, beyond beautiful.
