Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako are on a two-day state visit to Belgium. On the evening of June 23, 2026, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde hosted a state banquet at the Royal Castle of Laeken in Brussels in honour of the Emperor and Empress. Princess Elisabeth, Prince Gabriel, Princess Eléonore, Prince Emmanuel, Princess Astrid, and Prince Lorenz also attended the state banquet.
For the occasion, Princess Elisabeth wore the Laurel Wreath Tiara and Diamond Fringe Earrings with the Order of the Chrysanthemum. Princess Eléonore wore a new diamond tiara, which had been sold at auction in 2019 and was made in Belgium by the Brussels jeweller Coosemans. Princess Astrid wore the Savoy-Aosta Diamond Tiara.
For the occasion, Empress Masako wore Princess Chichibu’s Diamond Honeysuckle Tiara and Necklace with the Order of Leopold. Made by Mikimoto around 1928, the tiara features diamond honeysuckle motifs and was created for Princess Chichibu. Queen Mathilde wore the Nine Provinces Tiara and diamond earrings with the Order of the Precious Crown.

Oh gosh everyone looks so well dressed. The men total male elegance, and the ladies so beautiful in their dress.
ReplyDeleteEveryone looks great. Superb display of tiaras lovely to see the whole family dressed up formally
ReplyDeleteThe Empress looks better than ever. The sparkle on the dress, combined with the stunning necklace and tiara. Just gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteCinci
The ladies all look beautiful. Eleonore’s tiara is very pretty and almost delicate looking; it suits her. I’m not sure what the pattern is at the top of Mathilde’s dress - fans? flowers? - but the dress looks good on her and has a nice fit.

Such a warm and welcoming royal family. How nice it is to see all four children there. The Belgian royals have done a wonderful job with their children. They look respectful and happy to be there.
ReplyDeleteMathilde transitioned from her beautiful day look to a splendid evening gown and I am so pleased she decided to wear the order of the chrysanthemum.
Every single one of them looks simply amazing. I have nothing but praise for all of them. Most surprising is Empress Masako's gown. It's the first time I'm seeing her wearing something of a style like this and she looks fabulous! First the very different hat in the morning to her usual style, and now this lace overlaying a strapless sheath gown underneath. Could this be the start of something sartorially new that we might expect to see more of in the future? I'd be very pleased if it is. Mathilde is a vision in her Armani Privée gown. I don't care too much for the decorative elements at the top of the gown (I don't know what they're meant to be - Japanese fans maybe?) but this is a minor quibble, as Mathilde looks stunning in the gown. The fit is perfect and the train pooling at her feet is lovely. She looks very elegant. I also like that both ladies chose similar light colours, and of course, their jewellery is flat out stunning, especially Masako's necklace which fuses seamlessly with the gown.
ReplyDeleteBoth the young princesses are also lovely and Ps. Eléonore has a special beauty that was made for wearing tiaras. So nice to see her at her first tiara event. Ps Elisabeth, as always, is grace personified.
Not to be outdone, the men put on their own show of elegance, and look handsomely smart and regal.
This entire double, back-to-back series of state visits by the Japanese Emperor and Empress with their close European friends has been a treat, made even more special by the warm friendship we've seen between them.

You have said it all so nicely and I agree with every word.
DeleteHow gorgeous. Wonderful to see the kids all looking so beautifully dressed too. It is very interesting to have the close-up pictures of these fabulous jewels.
ReplyDeleteQueen Mathilde's dress design is based on the Japanese uchiwa fan (a fan used to create a breeze). I appreciate the thoughtful touch of incorporating Japanese culture into the dress. it is lovely.
ReplyDeleteQueen Mathilde always tries to do a bit of diplomatic dressing. Sometimes she incorporates the colors of the flag of the visiting country (in this case it would be red and white). If that is not possible for reasons we don't know, she is doing something else like copying an embroidery which reminds the traditions or culture of the visiting country (in this case she incorporated the embroidery of an "uchiwa fan" on her dress). Their children have been learned to act similarly, from their very young age on. I like prince Gabriel in his uniform from the Royal military Academy. Maybe they are trying to tell us that he will start a carreer in the defense forces. From CP Elisabeth we know she is a very capable princess and will furfill her role as crown princess smiling but above all with using all what is in her power to do this job perfectly. She dresses in a pure style and lines. She seems to like classic colors like navy, white, cream and simple creations. The 2 youngest children will probably continue to study something which interests them. Of course they will have more freedom and time to develop themselves into a lbrother and sister which will help the crown princess where they can. They are all educated with the love and support of their parents and received an excellent education to become wonderful people in the future.

ReplyDeleteOh thank you for sharing this! Now that you did, I realize it is like my small paper fan in this form, as it is foldable, it goes perfectly in a handbag (where it is sitting now).
DeleteI prefer these beautiful outfits including tiara’s to the in my opinion over the top outfits and tiara’s of the Dutch royal family at their state banquet last week !!(I am Dutch !!)
ReplyDeleteThe Belgians definitely have more style and class
DeleteSuperb pictures!
ReplyDeleteThe whole belgium royal family with the emperor and Empress, beautifully dressed and beautifully combed hair !
Beautiful gowns and tiaras. Christine
ReplyDeleteI love all the Tiaras, and the diamond earrings, they all look lovely
ReplyDeleteTrue. Great photos, beautifully arranged. The Empress so elegant, the other royal ladies too.
ReplyDeleteThere are Friends together who enjoy euch others company. The Empress so relaxed looks fantastic as all the others do.
ReplyDeleteThis is a faultless presentation by both royal families. Exquisite and splendid, the likes of which we rarely get to experience now. Mathelide's tiara is beautiful, I love this piece. The Empress looks incredible, her jewels are on a whole nother level. The young Princess's look stunning.
ReplyDeleteWhat a treat and feast for royal fashion watchers.
ReplyDeleteThe Empress really has been a pleasure to watch on both visits. We have come to expect grace and elegance from her, but at both dinners, she served up a delicious variation in her choices. Tonight’s gown was nothing short of perfection. The delicate overlay brought a hint of sparkle, but no where near as eye popping as the necklace that married up to her tiara. She really did shine.
QM - Stunning! Just stunning. The gown with the ombré base and the ornamental design of Japanese fans, was a work of art. The Nine Provenance tiara sits proudly on her head.
CPE- What a surprise. I was expecting to see her in her birthday tiara. She came looking beautiful in her blue gown and the Laurel Wreath tiara. I have to say, I think it suits her more so than her birthday tiara.
PE - I had thought she might opt for the Wolfers tiara, but she surprised us all with her own tiara. Its delicate design suits her perfectly. The soft pink gown looked fresh and youthful.
PA - Was a slight disappointment. The dress with the ribbon straps seemed a little out of place at a state dinner. But, her tiara made up for the dress.
It’s been such a joy watching both royal families warmly welcome TIM’s! I’m sure they go home with some wonderful, heart warming memories!
Lowri.
It is like the royal family opened the vaults and the tiaras came tumbling out, nice to see when it has been said the Belgium royal family had very little Royal bling, bling!
ReplyDeleteQueen Mathilde is wearing Armani Prive and the ornaments were obviously stitched onto the basic dress. The effect is not only a diplomatic stroke of genius but also extremely becoming.

As others have noted, everyone looks incredible! EM's tiara and necklace is perfection. She rarely pulls out all the stops but she has here.
ReplyDeleteSuperbe Eléonore avec son diadème délicat ainsi que les boucles d’oreilles dans le même style !
ReplyDeleteGlorious! They all look splendid. The Empress now in the complete Chichibu Parure (she wore different necklace and earrings in The Netherlands). No surprised with Queen Mathilde going for the Nine Provinces Tiara. Princess Elisabeth, in her capacity as the Duchess of Brabant, seen in the Brabant Laurel Wreath Tiara for the first time. She is looking fab! And Princess Eleonore at her first state banquet in a new tiara, most likely a purchase made for her 18th birthday. It is rumoured to have been auctioned at some point in 2019, and might have been known up to that date as the Cooseman's Tiara. I like that the Belgian Royal Family goes for giving the female members a new tiara each; it is so much contributing to the jewel collection, and a rather contrary approach to what Queen Margrethe II (and before her her mother Queen Ingrid) did with some tiaras - giving them away as gifts, and they soon left the inner circle of the Danish royals. That even resulted in Queen Mary having to peruse the vaults and getting creative with jewels, plus purchasing something herself to add to the collection.
ReplyDeleteReading all your joyfull comments is nearly as much a treat as looking at all these beautifull pictures!
ReplyDeleteAlso credits to the photographer who made them !
Queen Mathilde: What lovely gesture to put these delicate Japanese fans on her dress.
Style, noblesse and class all over!
