Princess Claire, together with King Albert II and Queen Paola, attended the 30th edition of the Queen Paola Foundation Awards, held at the Royal Greenhouses of Laeken. Each year, the Foundation highlights inspiring projects that support vulnerable children and young people (aged 3 to 25) in their education, development, and social integration.
This year, 2GO (Antwerp), Auxilia (Limburg), and Solidarcité (Ottignies) are the winners of the 30th edition of the Queen Paola Foundation Awards. These are three practical, dedicated, and effective projects that are changing the lives of vulnerable young people every day.
Through an innovative driving-coaching model provided by volunteers, 2GO offers young people aged 18 to 30 free dual-control vehicles and personalized support. Since 1935, the non-profit organization Auxilia has provided free individual academic support to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. For nearly 20 years, Solidarcité has supported young people aged 16 to 25 who have dropped out of school or are uncertain about their future.

DeleteWhen King Albert decided to abdicate, Queen Paola said they would not continue to do a part of their former work, but would entirely benefit from their pension and have a calm and simple life. Queen Paola from then on started not to color her hair anymore. They spent a great part of the year in their villa in France and lived there as any older retired couple. She started also to dress more casual than before. They also started to have both health problems. Today she looks really fragile. They both are.

DeleteThere are older people who have the luck to become old in an easy way with no particular health issues and no problems in their personal life. It goes as well for commoners as for royals. Not every body is that lucky.
Queen Paola was the most beautiful young princess when she was a young married lady and a young mother. All her personal problems in her marriage which came out later in her life have certainly influenced her health and well being. She was more or less the Belgian Princess Diana avant la lettre. In a certain way she was lucky her life didn't end like Diana's.
Now that she is old and fragile as well as her husband, and their history have been published in the media, she (they) found finally peace with their life like it is.
