On 24 February 2026, King Philippe, Queen Mathilde , Prince Laurent, Princess Claire, Princess Delphine of Belgium and Mr. James O’Hare, as well as Prince Guillaume and Princess Sibilla of Luxembourg, attended the annual Eucharistic celebration in memory of the deceased members of the Royal Family. The Mass took place at the Church of Our Lady (Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk van Laken or Église Notre-Dame de Laeken) in Laeken.
Traditionally, members of the Royal Family gather at the church in mid-February for a remembrance Mass in honour of all deceased family members. The Church of Our Lady houses the Royal Crypt, the permanent resting place of all reigning Belgian monarchs and their spouses. The ceremony is held annually around the date of death of Albert I of Belgium, who died in 1934 following a fatal fall from the rocks at Marche-les-Dames.

Wow. Mathdile's dress and hat....wow. Reminds of the crow villains from the cartoons. A rare miss from QM - I really hate this one and usually she nails it. This is horrid. Even Phillipe looks alittle like..."whoa".
ReplyDeleteI find the queens hat with the wide brim a bit large, perhaps it is meant to be to give discreet privacy for a solemn occasion or to balance the large collar of her coat. Delphine in a decent hat and coat, which she stands out in due to the light colour.
ReplyDeleteMathilde looks terrific
ReplyDeleteYes, terrific is the word. It could be the Betsy dress von Natan and even if we don't see everything, this top horizontality is always a win on Mathilde's thin upper body. And the hat is beautiful, no idea why this size could be not appropriate in any sense of the word for a memorial mass. It is black, it is simple and not quirky and she looks so good in it. Delphine - well maybe she does not have a darker coat, but I rather think she chooses to stand out by means of colour this time, instead e.g. by means of one of her own fabric designs.
