reiss dress is very pretty. Athena looks lovely, however imo the dress is low on the back and the high slit for, not quite appropriate for a confirmation. It certainly makes her looks way older than her age. Perhaps it is one of her mothers dresses.

I agree. I rather liked the dress Princess Josephine wore for her confirmation.

I don't find the dress low on the back. It's not leaving the entire back uncovered: it sits underneath the shoulder blades and covers the lower back. The dress also doesn't have spaghetti straps so imo there's enough substantial fabric on the back.
I also think these type of skirts/dresses need a slit to allow the wearer to walk properly. It ends above the knee which I also find not too high, and is in the back of the dress. So no mishaps or accidentally showing too much leg when sitting down or standing up.
All of which makes it (age- and occasion-) appropriate to me.

While I like Athenas dress, I think it is too "old" looking for a 14 year old.
The length of this straight skirt is unflattering on anyone, let alone a young girl. It would be much nicer with wider skirt. Her Mother is known for wearing nice modest and appropriate fashions, and I am surprised she ok'd a dress like this one for a confirmation.
For a High school prom yes, and spend some money on a separate and more suitable confirmation dress!

    5. If there is no slit in a tight long skirt, you can only hobble or shuffle! I think the dress is ideal for a young teenager

My first thought exactly: a dress like that for a confirmation? Definitely a no‑go. I wasn’t even allowed to wear any makeup, Frieda

What a beautiful young lady Athena has grown up to be. A fine mix of her Mom and Dad.
I would love to love Marie’s look, but the length of the dress on her petite frame doesn’t quite work. If she had altered it to sit just below the knee, and maybe worn a neutral nude shoe, i’d would have loved it.
Athena looks beautiful in her white/cream dress. Fitting for the occasion but with a flare of age appropriate about it. I wonder if her emerald and diamond brooch was a gift from the family. It’s a beautiful brooch and sits perfectly on her dress.

23.08...too low? Split too high ? I"ve seen wedding dresses in church with much less material. She's a gorgeous young adult... let her be one for her special day

"Young adult"? She is a teenager. I beg to differentiate, let them be teenager, basically: children, first, why make them adult prematurely. She has the body for this dress, and she looks gorgeous, but I also think that it is just a tiny bit too "young adult", the dress. The are by no means mature as a young adult in their heads.

A stunning family enjoying a lovely family event! Both dresses are perfect for the day…a classic ivory sheath for the star of the day and a modern floral for Marie. And the men look very handsome and seem to be enjoying the day as well.

She's a very pretty girl. I prefer her dress to her mother's. Prince Joachim matching his wife's burgundy shoes. Handsome brothers. I always thought Prince Joachim was the handsomest of the brothers. Good looking family. Hope they've enjoyed living in DC.

  13. Athena looks lovely from the front, but the low cut of the back view of her dress and the high split from behind, I feel is not suitable for her Confirmation. Yes, I am old fashioned, but regardless, church service its a no from me. Regardless of my thoughts she really looks stunning. The tiny pin on her dress and subtle gold bracelets lovely touch. I am not sure if she is wearing earrings? I like the color of her beige shoes.
Princess Marie looks beautiful in this dress. The red shoes, highlighting the same hint of color with the design colors of her dress, clever choice. Her clutch, neutral color, wonderful.

I agree with you about Athina's dress.
There's way too much skin showing at the back for a confirmation dress.

For most Lutherans in the Nordics, this kind of a dress for confirmation is not an issue. You see many girls choosing a dress like this for confirmation, as a wedding guest in church etc. in the Nordic countries and we’re fine with it./Chiara

Countess Athena looks very beautiful in her white dress.
I don't know what the customs are in the Lutheran church, but imo the dress is not appropriate for a confirmation and not to enter a church in general. Sleeveless, the deep neck line in the back and the high slit is not what women are wearing to enter a church (and surely not a 14 years old). Maybe a short jacket in the same fabric as the dress would have been more descent. A kiss on the cheek of the pastor is also something which is not common in other religions. I see she is also wearing make-up, nail polish, etc...Her niece, princess Josephine was more covered up for her confirmation. She looked beautiful too and more youthful.

I don't get the need to compare Josephine and Athena. Josephine is the daughter of the king, doing her confirmation in Copenhagen: probably a stricter protocol and colder weather were taken in account when the dress was chosen. Athena, having lost her princess title and living in the USA, is probably more free in this department. Nothing about this dress is indecent, nor age- or occasion-inappropriate.
Marie's dress has a slit too yet no one is complaining about that?
Athena's dress is sleek, sophisticated, stylish, fits well, and appropriate.
If it's ok for the Lutheran church then it should be ok for everyone else ;-)

I am so disappointed that this community feels it appropriate to criticize a 14 year old’s clothing. We used to do better than this.

Unfortunately this is in no sense a community but an open blog where anyone can post a comment. Previously yes it was kinder and I preferred it that way, but the internet has evolved since social media escalated and people write whatever they want now, which often comes out without considering they are discussing humans with feelings.

I would guess that this 14 year old did not purchase her dress herself, an adult had some say in it, therefore the comments are directed to the adult not the minor child.

There is a fine line between a 14 year old wanting to look grown up and wearing appropriate clothes for specific occasions.

    5. Completely agree with you 13:00. Athenas dress is quite appropiate. Nothing wrong with it at all. She is from a free spirit Scandinavia not a uptight USA. We as so-called adults she reflect over our behaviour and words especially when it comes to kids. It's embarrassing to see how low some of us is prepared to go.

Anon 11 41. I’m afraid you are talking nonsense. I can remember Lady Louise of Edinburgh being criticised for wearing an outfit that was too childish at this age and I’m sure there was criticism of one of the Dutch Princesses, perhaps Alexia, for wearing rather heavy make up in her mid teens. This constant criticism of how other people express themselves is what has become boring!

She is 14 years old, not a little girl, but not grown up yet. I find this dress not the best choice though it fits like a glove, for this church ceremony. Yes young girls wear clothes that are not age appropriate, however that doesn’t mean they should. The pretty brooch is a nice touch. The boys are very handsome in their suits. Marie’s dress is very pretty and feminine

Athena is becoming more and more beautiful. She is surrounded by her family, who seem loving and supportive, which is especially meaningful given what this ceremony represents for the Danes.
Like many others, I do not find her dress appropriate for a religious ceremony. It reveals too much skin. It is sleeveless, features a low cut back, and has a slit at the back of the skirt.

I am confident Athena is wearing a dress that is appropriate for the specific church community she is being confirmed in and is in keeping with what the other confirmands wore. I am also confident her parents would not have allowed her to wear something that was not appropriate. She looks lovely and poised.
