On April 10, 2026, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit hosted a reception at the Royal Palace in Oslo for the Norwegian athletes who participated in the Paralympics in Milano Cortina 2026. Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus were also in attendance. The Crown Princess attended the reception wearing a nasal cannula that delivers oxygen directly into her nose.
Wide trousers yes, wide and extremely flared trousers (with shine) no (but, without shine also no). Mette-Marit's jacket is, well, a jacket. I am afraid not much queenly elegance to expect from her, but then, the same applies for Haakon as a future king, so at least they offer a harmonious appearance in this respect. It is not so much criticism, it is the result of repetitive sightings on this blog. - Ingrid-Alexandra's top is nice, I would have chosen the lighter green shade in it for the pants, it would confirm that they are a composed outfit. I don't know why but the blue pants does not really do this job.
ReplyDeleteI suspect the Criwn Princess’s somewhat roomy clothing was chosen not just for fashion, but to accommodate the apparatus she would have to be wearing that supplies the oxygen to her nasal cannula.

If one have seen people who must have oxygen one knows it is rather complicated and take a lot of preparation if they must move from one place to another. Even by car they need almost the whole back seat for themself and their oxygen container and accessories.

At the same time I myself see this from a different perspective. Befriending a convicted sex offender does not align to my upbringing and ethics, so that's why I find it difficult to sympathise or defend her actions, words and judgement in this whole Epstein-scandal. She still is a public person, representing her country and people, the wife of a future head of state. Being critical about her in her role as crown princess, and future queen, is what comes with this level of seriously questionable involvement.
This blog is for some people their outlet on their opinions on matters regarding the royals. You may agree or disagree with some, and that is fine.
Personally I can separate the private person from the job or role they have. her struggle with her disease gets my full sympathy. Nevertheless that doesn't give her (or anyone) a free pass for what you do in you professional life.

Yes, you are absolutely right: sex offenders do not align to my upbringing and ethics either.
As to the word " convicted": no, I think Mette- Marit befriended him much time before these dreadful crimes emerged, of which she was unaware at the time.
Then, you are exactly right again: the Princess's public and private lives have to be considered separately.
I am in no position to establish undeniable facts as I have nothing in my hands to set up a rushed trial on this fashion blog.
It is only up to professionals to investigate and to law courts to establish truths, facts and evidence
I just remember Mette- Marit's statement and how she regrets her lack of judgement.
All that I see in the current post is a woman who still holds the title of Crown Princess of Norway (only the Monarch is entitled to strip her of any royal title whatsoever ) and is struggling to carry out her engagements taking all related risks.
I am focusing more on the woman than on the Princess in this instance and that's all I can symphatize with.
Lack of compassion for a seriously ill human has no room in my life book.
As to the man behind her, I suspect he is a navy medical officer or the like, in charge of monitoring the Princess's healthy conditions throughout this official event.
Should have she stayed secluded in her apartments not to be exposed on the public scene anymore?
Maybe.
I guess this is a way to show unity inside the Norwegian Royal Family.
Mette- Marit might want to make clear that she can still be trusted and supported by the Royal Family and the nation.

I wanted to add that Epstein was convicted (as a sex offender) in 2008, the Epstein-files have proven that Mette-Marit's friendship with him dates from after that: their released e-mails show a close friendship between 2011-2014. She even wrote herself about knowing of his past.
In 2019, when media starting reporting about them, she minimized her contact with him and claimed to have broken off contact earlier. After the release of the files that was proven untrue.
I believe that is way more serious than a lack of judgement.
And it has nothing to do with gossip magazines, looking for a villain, or taking aim at a woman down on her knees.
Let's be honest: if she was a politician, a CEO, a journalist, etc... she would probably been fired by now. So it's only fair that this scandal gets the attention, investigation, criticism, that it should get - even if the person in question holds a royal title.

DeleteLove the green colour of the pants, I am just not a fan of the wide bell bottom. They fit well and she has the height to wear them. Ingrid has a nice top, the multi colour is nice with dark pants. Sverre is very handsome in his suit. Everyone is well dress for the occasion. Nice to see young people dress in casual clothes.
ReplyDeleteJust my opinion, but I would have mother and daughter switch pants. The wide leg green pants seem to go better, and maybe be more youthful, with PIA’s jacket, and her trousers would make CPMM’s outfit more cohesive.

ReplyDeleteHave only admiration for the Crown Princess being able to stand up straight during her battle right now. It's good to see with her health struggle that she still is able to participate. She took responsibility for her lack of judgement. Have a severe health crisis and her sons problems. We have all done mistakes. We have all had bad friends. Many of us have had/have family members that struggle. We are the lucky one our faults and struggles are not headline news. Let the one without sin cast the first stone...PS I think they all look great, and doesn't have a problem with MM green wide pants. We all use them these days.

I would normally say I admire a person in Mette-Marit’s public role for appearing despite needing oxygen, and I do not doubt she has a genuine, serious lung condition. However, a small, cynical part of me can’t help but wonder if her decision to appear publicly using oxygen is calculated to elicit sympathy after the Epstein-related revelations. My trust level is not high with her, unfortunately. Fashionwise, I do not care for the color or wide legs of her pants. Her top and blazer are simple with clean lines; they look nice on her.
